Leah Pipes versus Piper Perabo
Results: Lookout    Writing: Archer

Piper: 39 YO, (5’6/1.68 m), 17-16-0 since 2001, Medallion Boxing
Leah: 27 YO (5’ 6 1/2/1.69 m), 0-10 since 2014, Pretty Little Punchers.

Before:  “I am not quite sure why Leah challenged me, but I’m always glad to teach a newbie a thing or two about celebrity boxing,” the always-affable Piper Perabo told Skip Tracey when he called on the Medallion.  “I had to struggle a lot in my early years. It’s really been only since I came to Medallion that I felt my career was turning around. I hope Leah realizes that in beating her I only have her future best interests in mind. Most rookies have to learn the hard way and I like to think fighting me IS the hard way. If she pays attention she’ll get some valuable lessons on the way to losing. Say ‘Hi!’ to her for me, if you see her and tell her it won’t be personal.”

Leah Pipes looked annoyed when Skip later passed on Piper’s words: “You can tell her that I may be new and I may have lost the only fight I’ve had so far, but I don’t like being condescended to by her. Maybe I can learn some things from her, but she doesn’t have to rub it in.”

“Oh, I don’t think she meant to do that,” Skip felt obliged to say.

“Oh, I am sure she meant to let me know I have no chance against her. I know she’s got a lot more experience and I’m the underdog, but I don’t intend to make it easy for her. I have had to weait a long time for this fight and there is no way I let her walk all over me. She’ll be in for a fight. I can promise you—and her—that!” Leah retorted with some heat.

(Skip could not resist going back to Piper Perabo for a reaction  to Leah’s words. The blonde just smiled and said: “If she made it easy for me—what fun would that be? Let’s see what she can do when she’s all revved up.”)

Leah Pipes certainly was “revved up” in a black (with white highlights) one piece with an impressively plunging neckline covered with a fine black mesh. Black gloves and boots with white lacings. Her hair was in a simple ponytail held in a place by a black elastic band. She stood looking coldly at a smiling Piper Perabo, in a bright yellow bikini with matching boots and gloves (white laces). Piper seemed blithely unaware of the frostiness radiating from her opponent. Leah kept control of her temper during instructions, but when it came time to touch gloves, she rammed hers into Piper’s. Piper did not move and just raised an eyebrow as she responded with a slight smile. Leah spun on her heel and marched away clearly seething. Piper Perabo watched her go with interest then turned away and went to her own corner.

R1: Piper moves briskly, though not recklessly, across the ring to challenge Leah Pipes at the outset. Bobbing and weaving, the veteran began to shoot punches at the newcomer testing her reflexes. Leah responded by blocking or evading a good many of these probing punches and striking back with crisp jabs that knocked Piper’s head back in rapid-fire fashion. Piper frowned and tried to circle, but Leah was quick to block her way and pump some shots into Piper’s tummy. Piper’s frown was deepening as Leah pressed in pounding hard to the body, but then slipping in surprise uppercuts to smack Piper’s chin. Piper fell back to reorganize and Leah pursued her with determination, but now the veteran had her jab going and Leah was feeling the veteran’s leather on her breasts and ribs causing her slow her attack. The two shifted around each other lashing out with quick punches to head and body with Leah Pipes giving the veteran Piper all she could handle to the bell. It was no surprise that the rookie won the initial round on the judges’ cards.

R2: Piper was still frowning when she came out for the second stanza of the bout and she made sure to greet Leah with some quick payback licks to the chin. The blonde rookie was stunned just long enough for Piper to lean and sink two quick hooks into the V-shaped mesh over Leah’s belly. Leah lurched forward and got another to the chin for her trouble. The uppercut caused Leah to stumble backwards and Piper followed smacking away with crisp, accurate shots to breast, ribs and tummy as Leah kept her gloves up to protect her face. Leah was then pushed into the ropes by Piper’s steady punching. Leah dug in a dueled with the aggressive Piper using her jab to try to discourage the veteran. It did have some effect in slowing the force of Piper’s attack and then Leah gave the Medallion blonde a couple of quick hooks to the belly. As Piper fell back a few steps, Leah was able to slip passed her and get to mid-ring. Here Leah was able to keep Piper at bay to the bell, but the round clearly went to the Medallion side of the ledger.

R3: Leah trying to be more aggressive this round, but Piper still ready to fight for control of the bout. Leads to a swift series of punching flurries that see that both fighters get struck to the head and torso. Leah trying some footwork to fake out the veteran, she does get in a pop or two at Piper’s jaw, but Piper ramming PLP rookie hard to the boobs in response. Leah trying to be more evasive, but Piper’s staying up with her and keeping up the pressure. Leah in a late surge catches Piper again hard to belly to distract her, but then whips overhand right that bangs Piper beneath the eyes. Piper looks a bit shaky, but comes right back firing hard to Leah’s belly and making her retreat on her tiptoes before she can stabilize defensively around her jab. Piper  settles for edging Leah out on the cards this round.

R4: Leah still trying to use footwork to fake out Piper and finally she manages to get Perabo to lunge at a right fake. Pipes left crashes into the side of Perabo skull and the veteran blonde reels back. Leah swarms in hoping to do more damage and does manage to put a couple quick rights and lefts into the veteran’s mouth splitting her lips. Perabo bleeding around the mouth, gets evasive and makes Leah chase her a bit, then reverses course with a quick surge of hooks to the midsection. Leah’s momentum stalls, but she circles and comes right back in. Vigorous punching exchange rings up both heads, but Leah hangs in, cracking shots off Piper’s jaw until the veteran pulls out of range. Leah again in pursuit, but Piper’s hunched up defensively behind her jab and Leah can’t do any more serious damage. Still, Leah Pipes has scored a solid points win this round.

R5: Leah encouraged by her successful aggression this round goes on the attack early on this round. Piper seems content to evade and block the rookie’s best efforts. Fight moves all over the ring as Leah and Piper circle each other looking for advantage as the time clock ticks away. Leah starts looking more and more frustrated as Piper keeps from doing the kind of punching damage she’s like. Then Piper makes a move left and Leah lunges in expecting to find a gap that while allow her to lay hard leather on Perabo jaw. CRUNCH! LEAH WALKS INTO A PIPER PERABO TRAP! Clever Piper lets Leah’s right cross zip over her shoulder while she brings a thundering uppercut under the rookie’s chin. Leah HURLED backwards by the impact and CRASHES to the canvas BOUNCING as she lands, arms and legs thrown outward in an impressive starfish. Trickle of blood  from the corner of the KO’d Leah’s mouth as the referee performs the purely ceremonial ten count. Piper’s eyes fluttering out just time to hear the dreaded:
“YER OUT!”
Piper Perabo smiles broadly and raises her right arm in triumph.

The Winner: PIPER PERABO KO5!

After: “I was wondering how she’d be if I could get her aggressive,” Piper Perabo explains later to the press. “It turns out she has some real talent and I will say she gave me a difficult few minutes over the course of the fight. Still, she’s a rookie and she got slickered by ne in the 5th. That sort of thing doesn’t always work quite so well—but when it does—well, it was a beautiful KO if I do say so myself. Hope the kid learns from this. She does have talent. She just needs more real ring time.”

Glum Leah Pipes tells press: “It hurts to lose, and hurts even more when you don’t have a win to your credit. That’s probably why I got careless and let her sucker me into that knockout punch. I will give Piper Perabo credit—she’s smart and she hits hard, but I know I can be that way too. It will just take more time than I had hoped.”

Exciting back and forth fight while it lasted.  Leah Pipes actually did show a few tricky moves of her own this fight, but she fell for a bigger one and paid the price. The veteran gets to add a new win to her record, while the rookie is still in search of her first victory. It should be interesting to see where each of them goes next.
