CELEBRITY BOXING AFTER DARK

BEFORE: 24 hours after Dallas Cowboys' season suffered a terminal Thanksgiving Day collapse it's suddenly down to Brooke Burns to save the city's pride. Things haven't always looked smooth for the leggy blonde as she still seeks her maiden FCBA victory however the recent Asylum showing where she managed to last five rounds against one of division's elite Gemma Arterton was promising enough to warrant another opportunity.
And there's more positive news for Burns as her tonight's opponent - Josie Maran - makes her official FCBA debut and has very little experience to speak of based on the fact she was once knocked out inside the opening round by Naomi Campbell. That was during a private models' party and the leaked video footage (courtesy of Kate Beckinsale's prank) became a viral hit a decade ago.
"That was then and this is now!", Maran dismisses her below par prospects and indicates that Brooke is even worse at boxing than the Cowboys are at playing football this season. Well, let's find out!
Josie Maran wears a yellow bikini and black gloves. Dark brown hair in loose waves. Brooke Burns wears a red bikini and white gloves. Long blonde hair straight, tucked behind the ears. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.
Round 1:
Brooke seeks an early jump on her opponent but misfires over the top badly and allows Josie to settle in the counterpunching drill landing some crisp shots upstairs for a much needed confidence boost; the blonde circles around trying to find her stride but Josie dwells on the circumstances and lets it rip knowing fully well Burns is yet to win one of these fights. No love for Dallas this season as Burns gets caught by the biggest punch of the bout thus far that nails her on the left brow ridge and sends spinning back to the ropes with a yelp; Maran hassles her way into more facial assault in the final minute shutting the blonde down and trying to dismantle the tight guard with Brooke looking as miserable as the Cowboys with Weeden under center. Ouch!
Round 2:
Burns wraps up Maran in early clinch to bide some time as the brunette was firing along nicely again to smack the blonde's cheeks; the brief wrestling struggle allows Brooke to send a couple of tough harpoons on the liver area and sink Josie on her knees a bit and once we resume the open play, the counterpunching is blocked by a facial blitz that has the former Baywatch actress ripping chunks of Maran's confidence and slamming leather straight up her chin. Maran's head snaps around amid some loud gasps and then Burns just whacks her across the mouth to turn the tables on the California girl and send her tripping into the ropes where the round concludes in hectic upstairs assault from both sides but it's Brooke on top of that melee beating Josie punch for punch and giving her a fat lip for a good measure.
Round 3:
Brooke seeks more success upstairs but is caught out by the brunette's agility and misfires over the top again leaving room for Maran's acurate response. The ammount of punches doesn't favor the brunette but her combos blast through the blonde's guard far too easily and shut her off in the middle of the ring which in turn enables Josie to get more aggressive and dominate the exchange wholesale. Burns can't use the longer reach into her advantage and bounces off the forearms, she tries to wrestle Maran back to the ropes but as she closes in, the brunette whacks her across the mouth repeatedly and now both women display a set of busted up lips. The fight intensifies in the final minute when Burns becomes clearly annoyed by lack of production, yet Josie keeps her at bay and drills more punches over the top to spike the blonde's cheeks and make her spit out her mouthguard in visible frustration at the bell.
Round 4:
Josie's holding up really well on her promotional debut but perhaps Brooke is truly that mediocre - despite the Arterton promise - however an early clash of heads in the fourth sends the brunette tripping back and has the blonde thumping her on the nose with a big drive upstairs. Maran was unfortunate not to see the ref stepping in for checks and she's clipped on the jugs to set up a blonde storm over the top; Burns finds herself a hole in the brunette's guard after that clash of heads left Josie seeking real estate and finally the superior reach comes to the fore and clobbers Josie back to the ropes with Brooke looking very animated and for once clearly in the predator mood. She blasts through the guard and connects with Maran's lips to dump her on the heels but the biggest damage is done when she switches low and punishes the liver area. Josie's low guard is badly exposed and she can't even clinch the Texan for a much needed respite; she leans over the ropes but gives Burns more room to work with and the midriff assault is only halted by the bell with Brooke shaking her glove right into Josie's face.
Round 5:
Burns made her power move in the previous round and she beats Maran for right-on-right to start the fifth that tears the skin under the brunette's eye and freezes her for a moment... Josie fails to react for the follow up and has her chin smashed by a quick uppercut that is duly supported by a hook to the temple... like a blindside sack, the brunette never seemed to get around that combo with her left eye developing a nasty gash after that opening punch... MARAN GOES DOWN ON HER BACKSIDE... a lightning quick bang-bang play sends Brooke jumping all over the boards and Josie staring down at her feet in utter disbelief... that gash under the left eye grows ultra fast and by the time a shaken and stirred Josie beats the count at eight, it's looking a really deep one... Josie needs to adjust her brain for the oncoming blitz but she just can't raise her arms still pondering that meeting with the boards and Burns doesn't need a second invitation... she rips through the very shaky guard and adds more leather on the wounded eye to pummel a stunned brunette back to the ropes where she just drops her arms by the wayside and hammers along on the chin to remove all the fighting spirit from the former model's playbook... Maran's head snaps back & forth and when the chin slumps on the shoulder and has the brunette out on her feet THE REF CHARGES IN AND HAULS THE TEXAS BLONDE FROM HER PREY... TKO5 Brooke Burns!!!
AFTER: So, there is still hope for success in Dallas! With more core strenght Brooke could have knocked Josie out in that last drive but the stoppage was long overdue since the rookie brunette never recovered from the knockdown and looked frozen once the blonde started to mess up her face... Josie was doing more than OK during the first four rounds - even against a winless opponent - but once she got knocked on her bum it was all over. Everyone's due to taste the boards sooner or later and Josie just didn't have the resilience neccessary to make the fight competitive again after that. And it was duly stopped when she offered nothing back at the raging blonde!
Brooke Bruns isn't exactly going to set the division on fire anymore but a win is a win and she won't be remembered for a winless FCBA foray anymore! Heck, even Carrie Prejean has won a fight under these rules so things were looking rather urgent for the Texan blonde to avoid the wooden spoon chapter for the scrapbook. She dwells on this maiden victory by blowing kisses to everyone in the front seats and even hugs the referee looking relieved more than anything else that her winless streak is finally over! Once she regains some common sense though, she's quick to challenge Olga Kurylenko so we might not have seen the last of Brooke for the time being... on the other hand Josie leaves the arena with a huge ice pack covering the half of her face and the gash under the left eye will probably require some stitches. Not what you call a successful day at the office!
Final result: Brooke Burns def. Josie Maran TKO5.
