BEFORE:
"See, here's the thing people don't get," says Janel with a big smile. "The first time was NOT a fluke. I'm just BETTER than Kat Graham. And, tonight, I'll prove it. Again."
"The absolute nadir of my career," says Kat with a shake of the head. "I had her, and I let her off the hook. I got lazy and I got sloppy and it cost me plenty. Not tonight. NOT. TONIGHT. Tonight, she gets FINISHED. Tonight, I get this DONE."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that is 'Wanna Say', and that can only mean that the singer of said tune, 'The Liberian Lynx', Kat Graham, is on her way to ringside..."
Cassie: "Of course, Kat coming down here first, because, as the ladies mentioned in the pre-fight interviews, Janel won their first fight in a huge upset, taking five of the last six rounds to do so."
Tess: "And, that resulted in Graham getting benched, if you recall. Though Wiz did, eventually, give her another shot on the active roster."
McCarthy: "And, when she gets beaten again tonight, he'll toss her out the door like he should have the first time."
O'Dell: "Graham into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal that yellow two-piece she prefers, and that's 'Rainy Day' you hear booming through the arena..."
McCarthy: "You know, not only can neither of these two fight, neither of them can SING, either..."
Tess: "As I recall, COURT PAPERS were filed by Grace Slick ENJOINING you from ever singing another song of hers..."
McCarthy: "She's just jealous that, not only am I a million times HOTTER than her, I can SING better than she can, too!"
Cassie: "Now, I know the answer any time someone asks Mac if she can hear herself. Clearly, she can not..."
McCarthy: "Shut UP, Scabbo!"
O'Dell: "A-HEM! The song you hear is being sung by none other than the lovely Janel Parrish of Pretty Little Punchers, who is bouncing down to ringside, smiling and waiving at the crowd."
Tess: "And, as you might recall, the first time these two fought was just over a year ago, at the 2014 Hallowe'en Card. It was Parrish's FCBA debut, and, when she won, she predicted the win would get her management. Three months later, to the day, Parrish was signed by PLP..."
McCarthy: "I HATE PLP. It stands for Pretentious Little Pipsqueaks! I hate them ALL!"
Cassie: "Speaking of PLP, check out the Owner's Box, where Troian Bellisario of PLP sits next to Pointy, Beth Harnois, and Uncle Wiz..."
McCarthy: "Get that camera off Weirdo! No one wants to see him!"
O'Dell: "Janel into the ring and helped off with the robe by the PLP corner to reveal that medium blue number we saw last time, and it's time for some picks. Tess favors Kat. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Like I said, Parrish wins and Graham gets fired."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess."
O'Dell: "Let's find out who's right. First sees both fighters bouncin' and misbehavin' as they did in the early portion of the last fight. Graham looking to apply a little pressure, but Janel all about movement here, she's here, there, everywhere, nowhere. And Graham one of the few women on the planet that can match that kind of movement. And, as I have another of those few women sitting next to me, this is some pretty stuff, isn't it, Cassandra Lynn..."
Cassie: "And, if you'll recall, we saw a lot of this same kind of pretty stick-and-move stuff in their first fight. Graham eventually began getting the better of it, but, not so far."
O'Dell: "No, not at the moment. Parrish holding her own pretty well. Kat SNAKING that left jab home, wants to flurry off it, but can't. Janel gone. Parrish a quick hit and run, landed a couple of shots there. Kat bouncing on her toes, looking to square Parrish up. Not much luck. Janel just not going to get lined up at the moment. Willing to forego the offense to frustrate Graham..."
Tess: "Kat keeping her cool, though. She's got to be remembering last time."
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch. Lots of feints and the odd hit and run, but not a lot of leather getting home in this first round. Still, though, the crowd isn't, and shouldn't be complaining. This is an entertaining game of cat and cat being played out there. Almost a ballet going on in front of us, except, there are a few punches to the face thrown in. There's the bell. First is over. Close to Parrish."
McCarthy: "And, if you'll recall, this was a two-point decision the first time. Every point is crucial."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Graham trying to up the pressure in the second. She's coming after Parrish, but Janel going to the counter. She's keeping the gloves high, continuing with the movement, blocking and slipping punches, then countering with solid stuff. Graham not slowing down, though. She's determined to bring Janel to final battle right now, Mac..."
McCarthy: "This kid is dumb even for a Dancing Hooker. This is exactly the kind of overly-aggressive stuff that got her in trouble the last time, and she's at it again. And her clueless corner's just standing there..."
O'Dell: "We've gone from cat and cat to cat and mouse. Graham the cat, Parrish the mouse. But, right now, this is looking like an episode of 'Tom and Jerry', because Graham's mostly landing punches on the gloves of Parrish, while Janel's answering back with quick, solid counters and scoring very well doing it. Kat not backing off the throttle though..."
Cassie: "She should be. All she has to do is box this girl and she'll beat her. Graham's a bit quicker, and she has more skill and experience. She's also a lot stronger. But, she's playing right into Parrish's hands."
O'Dell: "She appears to be doing exactly that. Janel leading a merry chase right now, allowing Kat to get off first, then answering back on the counter. She's not actually IN the pocket like she was late in the last fight, but she's fighting a counter-puncher's fight in space, and it's working very well. Another good right hand and ANOTHER for Parrish at the bell. Janel wide in the second."
Tess: "And, we're seeing frustration on Graham's face as she walks back to the corner trailing 20-18."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third begins with Graham slowing things down a little bit. Kat actually doing a little stalking now, something you don't see the lightning-quick Graham doing much of. Kat usually likes the jab and circle, but that's where Janel's going and Graham going to work her own feet, square, and get off.."
Cassie: "And Parrish holding there just long enough to respond, then she's back on the move. Key is to hang in there until you get yours."
O'Dell: "And that's what Janel's doing here. But, the lessening of pressure's helped Graham. She's not leaving herself so open for counters now and we're fighting on pretty even terms after Parrish's walkover in the second. Graham staying patient, and that's not a term that we often use when referring to Kat..."
McCarthy: "It isn't, but patience is something that all good fighters learn. Sometimes you have to push pace, but, not always."
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch now. Graham a solid combination and Parrish responds with one of her own. Janel back on the horse, circling away. Kat working the feet, squares and flurries again. Parrish a quick one-two and she makes with the feet again. Five seconds left in this one, and there's the bell. Close to Kat."
Tess: "And, Graham's avoided that three round hole. 29-28 Janel."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins like the third ended. A patient Graham working the feet, looking to match footwork with a bouncin' and misbehavin' Parrish..."
Cassie: "We've got to get that phrase copyrighted for you, Jenny O. I've heard other announcers start using that, and we have to put a stop to it."
O'Dell: "Maybe I'll call my attorney. But, I'm going to do it AFTER the fights are over..."
Cassie: "And, YOURS might actually pick up the phone..."
McCarthy: "What's THAT supposed to mean?"
O'Dell: "Meanwhile, back in the ring, Graham executing this patient strategy of squaring up, getting off, and then going right back to stalking the moving target that IS Janel Parrish, and, again, it's almost jarring to watch Kat Graham, who's usually all about the movement, do this..."
Tess: "If you remember, in the middle of the last fight, it was Graham doing all the moving and Parrish couldn't keep up. That's when Janel went to the pocket and it all went sideways for Kat..."
O'Dell: "Which may be why Graham hasn't gone to that strategy in this one. As it is, she's content with solid, steady, sound pressure. And, again, I can't BELIEVE I'm saying this about Kat Graham. Twenty seconds left in the fourth. Graham closes, nice flurry, Parrish lands a couple of shots in response and scoots away and there's the bell. Again, close. Again, Graham."
Tess: "And, we're even at 38 after four. Looks like it may well be another close one."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Parrish on the move as we begin the fifth. Graham slowly stalking. Janel dancing, bouncing...and STICKING THE CHIN OUT LIKE SUGAR RAY! Graham bouncing right in after her and letting fly. Good counters from Parrish as she dances away. Graham right back after her and Parrish coming away better in the exchange again..."
Cassie: "Graham getting too aggressive now. Parrish baiting her into it...and doing it with stuff Graham did to her the last time around."
O'Dell: "Kat seeing red, no question about it, but, she's back to throwing a lot of stuff Parrish is either slipping or picking off, and Janel able to score with solid stuff on the counter-punch. Kat again getting frustrated, as Parrish uses her aggression against her, catching Kat repeatedly with solid retorts..."
Tess: "And, this really IS the opposite of the last fight, because now it's Parrish who's all in Kat's head."
McCarthy: "I'm betting she's been in Kat's head for a year."
Tess: "Good point."
Cassie: "Truck, you can turn off Mac's mic now. She's made her good point for the night."
McCarthy: "SHUT. UP. SCABBO!"
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch and Graham charging after Janel. Parrish picking off punches with the guard high and the chin tucked, then using the openings to strike back with hard counters. Graham shaking them off and continuing to come, but she's not getting a thing done. Final seconds tick off and there's the bell. Parrish wide and Graham is steaming on her way back to the corner."
McCarthy: "And Janel right back in the lead, 48-47."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Sixth begins with more aggression from Graham. Parrish dancing away. Kat not trying to move with now, just charging at Janel and taking fire as she does so. Parrish then covers up, slips away. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Front Street corner showed a little frustration with their fighter between rounds, and that likely isn't dissipating now..."
Cassie: "I'm guessing not. What Kat needs to do here is BE KAT. Get your feet moving. Stick and move. Box this girl. She's trying for a knockout here and falling right into the same stuff she did the last time..."
O'Dell: "And Parrish taking full advantage of it. Let's not lose, in all this, the fact that Janel, while she may not be as quick and athletic as Kat, has plenty of those attributes, too. She doesn't have a lot of experience, but she's clearly a pretty smart fighter as well from what we're seeing right now..."
McCarthy: "And Graham is a DUMB fighter even for Front Street. Weirdo benched her the last time she lost to this kid. This time, I'm sure he'll send her packing. Of course, the good part about that is that she'll get out of PHILLY..."
O'Dell: "And, again fans, the opinions of Jennifer McCarthy are hers and hers alone and do NOT reflect those of the other announcers or HBO. Meanwhile, I think we're unanimous in our opinion that Parrish is PASTING Graham here in the sixth. Kat completely ineffective this round. Way too aggressive once again and there's a final flurry that is cleanly won by Janel on the counter. Bell. Parrish wide yet again."
Tess: "58-56 Janel. And this is looking very familiar."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Seventh begins with a less aggressive Graham. Kat got another talking to between rounds and it appears she's taking heed. Parrish on her bicycle, bouncing and circling. Kat slowly pressuring, landing a good combination there. Janel hangs in for the counter and gets gone. These are the terms we saw in rounds three and four, rounds that Graham won..."
McCarthy: "ALI SHUFFLE FROM PARRISH! There's something ELSE of Graham's she pulled out of the last fight!"
O'Dell: "Kat not taking the bait this time. One look at her face and you can see she wants to take Parrish's head off, but she's staying with the plan here. Matching footwork, getting off, then, when Parrish gets moving, working the feet again. Janel giving some ground now. Kat stepping in. Parrish on the ropes in the pocket and here we go again..."
Cassie: "Kat just doesn't want to get sloppy here. Lay siege, set up your punches."
O'Dell: "Graham feinting, bobbing, looking for openings. Parrish jabbing, scoring with a good right. Kat taking her time, learned something from the last fight. Trying to probe for openings here, lands a right hand. Parrish a a stinging left in response. Work rate has slowed perceptibly now as both fighters look to set up punches. Ten seconds to go. Flurry from Kat, right hand counter from Janel. Bell. Parrish's round close."
Tess: "And, Graham really has some work to do. 68-65 with three to go."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "Into the eighth and Parrish almost immediately to the pocket. Janel's got the lead and knows it, so she's setting up on the ropes and she's going to make Kat come back the hard way, if she can come back at all. Graham again staying sound. Setting things up. Not going to get sucked into a wild assault that will only open her up for Parrish's counters..."
McCarthy: "This is the exact right tactic for Janel to use. She's won every round she's fought against this girl from the pocket, and, and this point, if she manages to get even ONE round the rest of the way, she's got this thing in her pocket."
O'Dell: "Parrish slippery in there, keeping the guard high, leaning back, rolling with, giving Graham almost no target upstairs at all. Kat working a little body, scoring some points down there, but Parrish having the better of things on that counter. Janel filling every opening with leather, not hurting Kat, but scoring points. We're two minutes in and Parrish has the lead..."
Cassie: "BUT DOWN SHE GOES! DOWN GOES JANEL!"
O'Dell: "A LIGHTNING STRIKE right hand from Graham and Parrish spills along the ropes and crashes to her right side! Graham leaping away in triumph, but she may be celebrating too soon, as Janel's pulling herself to a sitting position along the ropes. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Janel watching the referee. Seven. Eight. Now getting to her feet. She beats it. Referee going to give Parrish the mandatory and waive Graham forward. And on comes Kat. She's pounding away at Parrish now, battering her along the ropes. Janel keeping that guard up, rolling with, trying to tie up but getting shoved off. Kat digs a little body, then back upstairs. Time running out in this thing, but Graham determined to finish. Parrish in the tight earmuff. She's going to run the clock out. There's the bell! Kat steals this round in a big way!"
Tess: "What a turnaround. We were a minute from 78-74, and, instead, it's 76-75 with two to go."
ROUND NINE:
O'Dell: "Ninth underway and it's Graham on the attack. Kat wants to finish this thing now. Parrish right back to the ropes Doesn't have the legs to do anything else, even if she wanted to. Kat slowly working to pick Parrish's defenses apart. She's using the left jab very well right now, digging a little body with right hooks, but mainly concentrating upstairs..."
Cassie: "Parrish still countering in spots, but she's not getting nearly as much done as she did before the knockdown."
O'Dell: "The punches are powder puff stuff, too, and Graham knows it. She's got this girl in trouble, and she's determined to take her out of there. But, she's not getting wild or sloppy. She's working soundly, setting up punches, scoring with both hands. She's letting the knockout come to her instead of forcing it. And, she's piling up a ton of points in the process."
McCarthy: "Give Parrish some credit here, too. She's hanging on smartly. She's taking a licking, but she's staying on her feet and staying in this fight."
O'Dell: "She's doing all those things, and Graham now doubling down on the 'licking' part. Kat getting VERY busy down the stretch, hammering away at Janel, suppressing her with accurate volume. Parrish taking and taking. Referee looking in, but Janel smartly countering, even if not very effectively. She's not going to let him stop this thing. GOOD right hand from Graham! That shook Parrish, but there's the bell! Graham wide, but Janel, like Elton John, still standing."
Tess: "We have it 85-85 now. Lot of close rounds, though. If I were either of these two, I'd make sure I got round ten."
ROUND TEN:
O'Dell: "Into the tenth now and Graham on her bicycle! Kat bouncing around, dancing, snapping jabs. Parrish wants to go into the pocket, but Kat having none. Staying right out in the center of the ring, waiving Parrish forward, peppering her with quick jabs, then dancing away. Janel trying to stalk now, but doesn't have the legs all the way back yet..."
Cassie: "And, talk about a good strategy. Graham knows that and she's going to make her chase."
O'Dell: "Parrish trying to locate, trying to catch, but Kat not going to BE caught. She's going to stick and move, jab and circle, leg and do some more legging. Graham reversing motion, now STICKING THE CHIN OUT...Parrish catches her one, but Kat just smiles and bounces away. Graham popping that jab, she's here, there, everywhere, dancing around, lands a sharp left..."
McCarthy: "She OUGHT to be trying to finish, as close as this thing is. Serve her right if she lost by a point or two like last time."
O'Dell: "Janel trying to square, can't get it done. Kat jabbing and circling, ALI SHUFFLE and Parrish tackles Graham and they go down in heap! Referee quickly separates the two, sends them both to neutral corners, issues a double warning, but doesn't take any points. Now, he sends them back to work. Thirty seconds to go. Kat wants to dance the night away. Parrish trying to close, but can't make it happen. Ten seconds, quick flurry by Graham and she's gone. Five seconds. Bell. Kat's round close..."
Tess: "And, if we're right, Graham's turned the tables on Parrish. She gave up a big lead the last time. This time, she overcame one."
O'Dell: "Decision being announced. 95-94 on all three cards, and your winner by UD10 in both one-point AND comeback fashion is 'The Liberian Lynx', Kat Graham!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Kat Graham, and, Kat..."
Kat: "Karma's a bytch, isn't it? You saw that stuff she was doing. Well, it came back to bite her in the a**, didn't it! She came in here with all that nonsense but, it all ended when I cracked her a good one and put her on her overrated a**!"
Tess: "Um...this was a big win for you. Let's talk about that."
Kat (nodding): "There were things I needed to take care of this year. Things I needed to shake off to get forward and get where I want to go, right to the top of this division. Well. I got them taken care of. I shook them off. And, the next stop is at the top!"
