Results: Lookout     Writing: Archer
Shay: 28 YO, 5’7 ½ (1.71 m), 12-15-0 since 2011, Pretty Little Punchers Inc.
Shailene: 24 YO, 5’8 (1.73 m), 2-3-0 since 2014, Bazz Fight Club

Before: Not the first meeting between these two fighters. Shailene Woodley made her debut against Shay on 11/28/14 and went down in a KO9. Her second fight was against Emily VanCamp and ended in another KO lost. Shailene then had better luck winning her first two victories over Leven Rambin. ‘Now she’s back for another crack at her Pretty Little Puncher nemesis.” (At least that’s what the Bazz Fight Club/Foxfire press release announcing the fight said).

“I have to say that I am flattered to be considered to be anyone’s ‘nemesis’,” an amused Shay Mitchell says at the  pre-fight press conference. “Though I would think that poor Leven Rambin must think of Shailene as HER nemesis. Seriously, I do understand why Shailene wants to fight me again—she wants to prove she can beat someone besides Leven and since I spoiled her debut, I am the logical choice, However, I afraid I going to spoil this game plan too. I am fresh off my upset win over Caity Lotz and I ready to move on to bigger and bigger fighters. However I left I owed Shailene the chance to lose to me again. She really needs someone more like Leven—not like me or Emily VanCamp—but some people only learn the hard way.”

Shay says all this in a cheerful, if somewhat tongue-in-cheek manner. Shailene smiles along, nodding or shaking head as Shay makes her points. Shailene still smiling as she takes the podium for her turn with the press.

“I just want to assure you Shay then when you are fighting me again you definitely fighting someone bigger and better,” Shailene says smiling, but with a dagger in her words. “I think I came close in our first fight and I think I did pretty well against VanCamp, but winning is the important thing. I know that now. No, you aren’t Leven—but you can go down just the same as she did—twice. Every fight is fresh and anything can happen. I believe good things will happen for me in this fight because I will have made them happen”

Shay Mitchell’s dark eyes harden: “And I will make sure I make even better things happen for me. Only one of us can win that fight and it won’t be you.”

Now Shailene’s eyes are hard and glittering as she looks over at the exotic PLP beautiful: “I wouldn’t bet on that Shay—not at all!”

Things remain coldly polite the rest of the way to fight night, but it is clear that both young women  really want to beat the other. They are both excited and cheerful to the fans as they make their way to the ring on fight night. Shay’s in a white bikini that looks especially dazzling against her olive skin. She wears white boots and gloves with black laces.  Shailene’s gone for blue-gray bikini that shows off a lot of lanky body. Black gloves and boots. Shay’s ;long black hair in a battle braid down her back, Shailene’s cropped locks loose and ready to go. Only sign of anxiety between the two fighters is the way they are both bouncing in place, clearly eager to get this going as the referee goes through the rukes. Finally both fighters back in their own corners and the bell rings. It’s on!

R1: No one is disappointed when the two fly across the ring and start swinging. Shay pounding away at all that exposed body flesh, but Shailene ignoring the incoming so she can drive her gloves into Shay’s smooth olive goodness. Two of them are setting their legs and trying to push forward against the other. Breasts, bekky, ribs and sternum on both fighters are taking bruisingly heavy fire. Girls are straining hard, foreheads sometimes touching as they get in that close lifting their punches into each other’s breast cups. Then Shailene slips an uppie into Shays chin and the brunette shudders from the impact. Shailene turnss a shoulder and pushes against Shay’s front trying to knock her off her feet. Referee intervenes, but Shay has a flash of surprise before going poker-faced again and charging Shailene’s as the action resumes. More close in action, Shay hammering Shailene’s belly again and again to force down her guard, but when this happens Shailene manages to duck under Shay’s head shots taking them as glancing blows off the top of her noggin. Shay looking a bit frustrated as the round ends. She’s even less happy to realize the newcomer has eked out a narrow points win.

R2: No surprise to see a repeat of round one as Shay and Shailene head for each other and start the close-in body banging. Stays pretty steady through the opening minute as the opponents are equal in landing their leather to opposing body. Then Shay starts showing some circling movement, but she likes to reverse course unexpectedly and this earns some good shots off the Woodley chin. Shailene slows down from the effect of this chin music, but doesn’t back away. She is trying to keep up with Shay’s footwork, but always seems a step behind. Shailene still punching hard though especially to Shay’s breasts which the more experienced fighter is trying to ignore as she maintains her pressure, At the bell Shay is found to have won a close win on points.

R3: If Shailene Woodley wants to go jugg, Shay Mitchell is more than willing to give the newby’s relative modest breasts a thorough scrubbing. It’s really quite a clinic in jugg mugging. Straight shots to mash melon against the ribcage, then side to side to make them sway in their cups and finally upper cuts to bounce them around from the underside. Shailene looks bewildered at this unexpected approach and it clearly upsets her counterpunching. Shay then able to go after Shailene’s head and make the Bazz fighter pull back in head-ringing confusion. Shay now in pursuit, but Shailene able to fight defensively as she backs up. Jabbing keeps Shay wary in the latter stages of the round, but she wins the stanza wide.

R4: Shay looking confident as she starts circling around a cautious and defensive Shailene. She makes a few sudden moves at Shailene’s chest just to shake her up, but her real interest in hammering Shailene to the belly. Shailene firing back with her jab, starting to nob and weave to negate Shay’s attack., but Shay is determined to push in and get some punishing shots in against Shailene’s head. However as Shay lunges forward, Shailene drops down causing Shay’s right to miss over her shoulder, but Shailene rises up with a counter right uppercut to the chin and a smashing left hook to the jaw.  SHAY MITCHELL”S LEGS LOCK UP AND SHE FALLS FORWARD ON ALL FOURS! Crowd screams with excitement as Shailene stands over the stricken Shay and admires her handiwork until the referee orders her to neutral corner. Not a smart thing for a rookie to do as it gives Shay Mitchell precious extra seconds to recover. Shay takes an 8 before rising, but fight doesn’t get much further before bell rings. Shay bitterly disappointed as a round she was winning is stolen away by rookie Shailene's knockdown punching.

R5: Shay attempts to regain the initiative this round, but a fired up Shailene isn’t about to ket her get away with it. They engage in a running battle back and forth, circling and punching away. Crowd just loving this free-swinging exchange, but slowly the action comes back to the familiar toe to toe in close pounding away to the body. Shailene happy to use the opportunity to give Shay’s well-filled bra cups some sustained bombardment, mostly driving straight rights and lefts that crush mammary against rib. Shay not liking this is jabbing hard but then takes a hook deep into the belly that makes her gag as she tip-toes backwards. Shailene going after Shay’s head but the veteran has her gloves up to block this. Shailene then smiting Shay’s belly to force her back. Shay fighting back with the jab and does score some points late to make it close, but the Bazz fighter still wins the round.

R6: Shay back with a vigorous counterattack this round. Back to the battle of good footwork and lightning punches. Shay striking Shailene several times to the side of the head. Shailene starts to grow defensive to ward off a knockdown punch, but this allows Shay to control the pace of the round and she keeping up a torrid one mixing lightning punches with quick moves and probes for opening. Shailene not liking this keeps her defenses close and avoids getting aany severe hits, but Shay runs up the points as the round progresses winning it wide.

R7: Shailene’s corner must have urged to show more activity and she challenges Shay’s aggression right from the start. Again makes for exciting, constantly moving boxing with lots of punches landing just not with stopping power. Shailene then tries to bring the action back in close and furious toe to toe action carries the round to the bell. Shailene getting her body banged up as she forces her way in to land hard on Shay’s body, but Shay uses jab to strike at Shailene’s head and finally forces her to fall back to regroup. Shailene in again, but the jab is disrupting her timing and allows Shay to win this round, though it is close.

R8: Shay and Shailene again hurry to mid-ring to resume their battle, but Shailene pops Shay on the cheekbone to swivel her head, then bring a left uppercut into Shay’s chin. Shay’s legs tremble from these shots, but do not fail her. Shay stays up and uses her jab to keep Shailene away. Shailene resorts to circling and she is very effective in maintaining a heavy pressure on Shay, The PLP fighter grows sluggish in her movements, but she still has a dangerous jab and it makes Shailene try to work around it  Shailene constantly probing for openings and finding them mainly to Shay’s head making her battle braid dance from the impacts. Shay hangs in stubbornly to the bell, but it’s no surprise to find Shailene has won the round by a wide points margin.

R9: Shay comes off her stool looking wobbly, but still focused as Shailene moves in on her. Shailene circling again, looking for openings. Shay trying to cut Shailene off and this turns into another close in banging to the body battle. Fighters are rising up on their toes as they bring shirt jerking lefts and rights into already tenderized bodies. Getting to breast to breast at one exciting point (uppercuts into underside of jugs for both), then as the battle is reaching the second minute. Shailene then makes an unexpected move backwards just as Shay is unleashing right and Shay lurches forward. BANG! Shailene sees open Shay Mitchell head and unleashes a blockbuster right into Shay’s temple. Shay caught hard, head swivels and her own braid wraps around her face from the impact. Shay reeling away drunkenly JUST COLLAPSES ON HER FACE! Shay lay there arms and legs moving feebly but not helping her to rise. Shailene has hurried to the neutral corner as referee starts his count. Shay looks up at the official, her eyes fluttering, but not really seeing him. She lowers her head to the canvas and puts her cheek down as if to find some soothing sleep just as the count reaches: “…TEN!”
The Winner: Shailene Woodley KO9!

After: Shailene throws her lanky body up into the air, hands over her head and screaming in triumph as she realizes she’s just pulled off an upset. Bazz teammates rush to hug her and offer congratulations, Shailene smiling, but looks worriedly over as Shay Mitchell is brought around and helped to her stool. As soon as she can, she goes over to give the woozy Shay a big hug and tell her--?”

“Oh, I want to fight her again!” Shailene explains to the press later. “I am not sure she will remember my asking, but she really pushed me to the limit tonight. I wasn’t at all sure I was going to win until I was able to nail her in the 9th.  Oh my, what an exciting fight this was. That;s why I want more with her. I just know the next will be even better.”

“I am very disappointed in myself,” Shay tells the press later after she has recovered from the effects of Shailene’s punching. “Shailene was tough, she punches harder than I remembered, but I didn’t even get a knockdown on her. I was banging her up, but you can’t leave a Shailene Woodley on her feet too long or she’ll make you pay like she did to me tonight. Fight her again? Yes, I remember that and I mean what I told her: ‘Anytime.’  But who knows when that will be. Right now I just want to recover from this fight and move on.”

This has to be considered a major win for Shailene Woodley, but a setback for Shay Mitchell who had hoped the Lotz win signaled a turn-around in her ring fortunes. It did seem to be a close fight, but Shailene’s more effective punching seemed to be the deciding factor tonight. Now fight fans will be looking to see if Shailene can build on this success and if Shay can establish her consistency in future outings to get her career back on track.
