Hilary Duff (7-13, 2 KO) vs Cheryl Cole (2-0, 2 KO) (FCBA Free Agent; ex-Lookout! Boxing vs Lioness Club) Results: Lookout! Boxing / Story: Vassago
BEFORE: "Let me get this straight, I'm actually an inch taller than her but she was the bantamweight champion? Tells you all you need to know about her chubby ass! 'Chubby Duff', that sounds like a great nickname for someone who's gonna end up counting sheep by the time I'm finished with her!", Cheryl Cole remains animated as usual in her pre-fight talk and there's every chance the Geordie singer keeps her winning ways in America having dispatched JoJo Levesque and Rachel Stevens in the past few weeks already.
Indeed there was a time when Hilary Duff used to be Lookout! Boxing's hottest property but at the age of 28 she's been ousted to the fringes of journeywoman status and hasn't booked a fight for almost two years being cut by Paris Hilton in the proccess. But when you consider that Jessica Simpson and Ashley Tisdale were shown the door at Lookout as well, Duff's former champion's glory truly belongs to the past. Will Cole just add more insult to injury and send Hilary to the point of no return? BLONDE! Magazine believes that Duff can still find work if she either beats the stuffing out of Cheryl or even looks good in defeat but this shapes up to be a real coin-flipper of a contest despite Cole's BBU heroics and Duff's lenghty absence from the ring.
Hilary Duff wears a neon green bikini and white gloves. Blonde hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Cheryl Cole wears a light blue bikini and black gloves. Dark brown hair tied in a loose bun at the back of her head. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1: It's not like Hilary's forgotten how to land a mean punch or two but she's simply stunned by the ferocity of Cheryl's attacks which dismantle her guard repeatedly in the opening minute and thump some fine Geordie leather into the blonde's face to reel her back to the ropes in shutdown mode. She tries to respond in equally rapid fire fashion but gets caught on the mouth in the middle of Cole's frenzy and sinks on her knees with the British singer threatening to blow her away on the spot. Talk about a rough comeback as Duff bellows out into a desperate earmuff just trying to avoid the knockdown at the very least and it's rather telling who spend the last 20 odd months on the sidelines as Cole pummels along into the clear and is really unfortunate not to send the American down for the count already! Duff locks a clinch in the final minute and weathers the English storm but still gets spiked on the ribs as Cheryl wants to add more punishment and signs off the round with a late hook on the chin that spins a scowling blonde back to her corner.
Round 2: Cole really believes she can destroy the otherwise lacklustre opponent and jumps into another leather frenzy but thankfully for the audience Hilary rewinds some championship memories to blast a cross hooking route into the brunette's face and triggers a subsequent war of attrition that leaves early battle sc ars on both faces. Hilary spikes Cheryl's left eye while soaking up a fat lip and allthough the Geordie singer snaps her head back more repeatedly, she answers with the biggest punch of the bout which clatters into Cole's ear and sags her on the knees just before the two minute mark. Duff channels the straight jabbing afterwards and outworks the older singer which actually wins her the round because Cole never recovers from that big punch to the ear and loses her aggressive approach allowing Duff to pound her back to the turnbuckle.
Round 3: Duff swings more menacing hooks on the temples and while she looked terribly out of sorts in the opening round, she's quickly found her rhythm especially that Cole was clearly shaken by that hook on the ear and eben now she's slower in execution than the former bantam champion who continues to outwork the English singer in close range. The pace of the fight has dropped however Cheryl's head snaps back a bit too frequently for comfort and the brunette's impoved agility across the canvas ain't getting it done either since Hilary checks her down with more cross hooking menace before driving a belting shot on the liver area that dumps Cheryl on the ropes just before the bell.
Round 4: Hilary continues to dominate the close range exchange being just that brutally effective and spiking Cheryl's temples from both sides to the point the Geordie singer has to back off and think of a Plan B. She launches a couple of feisty attacks and digs her leather into the blonde's face alright but Duff bumps her off with some jug strenght and beats for a quick overhand that rips into the brow ridges and cools Cole's plans out on the spot. Beating JoJo and Stevens was impressive but Duff ain't your free agency pushover despite the lenghty spell on the sidelines and she remains ultra accurate in her harrassment of he British singer; another clubbing set on the temples makes Chezza gurgle in frustration but she can only clinch the raging blonde who pounds her on the ribcage while shoving her butt-in-ropes in the corner. It's suddenly all going downhill for Cole who really needs a big punch to somehow turn this fight around.
Round 5: Duff's pulled ahead on the cards and no wonder she's smiling whereas Cole remains bitterly upset that her opening round heroics flamed out very quickly indeed. Still, she tries to brawl herself to the blonde's body and launches another close range dust up which leaves Hilary leaning on her regardless and answering the bell in similar fashion. Both girls almost clash heads in the proccess and the midriff assault doesn't break anyone's stride despite plenty of aches and yelps so the round's only decided when Chezza rocks the blonde's ponytail with a quick uppercut switch and dumps the American on the ropes with a follow up on the temple. Duff barks in anger and bounces off the ropes to rally back into contention but Cole dekes underneath her high swings and wraps her in a clinch wrestling both girls back to the ropes thereafter.
Round 6: Hilary's ponytail snaps around in the opening minute as she gets beaten for an overhand approach early but smacks Chezza's brow ridge into more swelling misery afterwards and bumps the brunette off thanks to superior jug strenght before blasting a cross hook on the lips to enforce a mid distance attire. Cole realizes her left brow ridge is quickly growing into a swollen mess and Duff cross hooking route puts her on notice too. There's just no way she can outlast the American through sheer aggression if she doesn't land that all important haymaker and Hilary's former bantamweight experience comes to the fore as she hassles the brunette around the ring and threatens to shut her left eye for good when she adds more spikes to the wounded area leaving Cheryl in all sorts of bother at the bell and shaking her head in frustration. Sure enough, JoJo and Rachel Stevens didn't punch that hard to threaten an injury stoppage at any stage.
Round 7: The smile on Hilary's face just got bigger when she noticed the frantic efforts to deal with Cheryl's left eye closing fast and she works on that injury in the opening minute to root the brunette to the spot in the middle of the ring. Cole scowls in pain as her head gets snapped backwards but she refuses to yield the real estate and fights back from her heels trying to catch the blonde with some meaningful leather. Hilary dances around those efforts and bumps her off with another jug-to-jug click but gets belted on the liver area as Cole loses her patience and charges ahead instead of just circling back to safety. Duff misses a high blast and has the older singer clattering into her chest and wrestling her back to the corner; the fight turns into a brawling struggle but Cheryl doesn't mind with her eye badly affected and for once Hilary's plan to maul her foe into submission or exhaustion has backfired as she gets whooped on the ribcage late in the going and fails to escape from the corner.
Round 8: It's time for Hilary to stop playing games; she's still ahead on the cards but has to put Cheryl away to justify her comeback, she leaps after the brunette and aims at the wounded brow ridge again but it's too predictable at this stage and Cole dekes to her right and rips a left cross on the mouth to stun Duff on the spot; she adds a right hook on the temple and bends the blonde forward into a heavy uppercut on the jugs that makes the American scream. This time the bump off has Duff on her heels and when she raises her arms again, Cheryl thumps her on both cheeks to spin the ponytail around her neck. A sudden flurry of Geordie leather roots the otherwise dominant blonde to the spot and the response fails to catch the flesh leaving Chezza with a heavy slugging display that slices Hilary's guard and crushes her chin repeatedly... Duff's in trouble as she groans out in pain but loses her footing in a frantic effort to break the close range heat... Cheryl whips her on the temple and adds a right cross on the eye that slumps the blonde forward one last time so the put away uppercut on the jaw meets no resistance anymore... DOWN GOES DUFF CRASHING FLAT ON HER BACK... Chezza's maybe fighting with a badly affected vision but she's just smoked the blonde into eye-opening reality... it's a slow count but the American has big difficulties to beat it regardless... she's up at eight but swalling some tears and Cole really put a dent in her chin there... she leans back on the ropes but the looming vulture strike is halted because the clock expires and saves Hilary from further punishment for the time being.
Round 9: Duff's unsure how well is her chin doing after that monster drive from the English singer but she vows to smack Cole senseless anyway; another feisty tangle opens the ninth round but Cheryl hammers her way onto the blonde's jaw with a repeated uppercut drill and bumps her off jug-to-jug style again; she throws the American off balance and beats her for another cross hook on the temple to spin an aching Duff to the side... again, the guard is slow to get up and Cole powers ahead with a brutal hook to the nose before adding one more uppercut on the slumping chin... Hilary's on her toes simply trying to stay upright but Chezza lands one last left hook on the eye WHICH SENDS THE BLONDE CRASHING DOWN ON HER SIDE with eyes closed... Ugh! "Take that if you can!", Cole yells out in delight but leans over the ropes looking utterly spend herself... still, Hilary's in far worse shape rolling into embrional position and just unable to beat the count this time... KO9 Cheryl Cole in come-from-behind fashion!!!
AFTER: That's a genuine upset as Hilary had the fight under control until the seventh and was seemingly strolling into her first victory since March 2013. But instead of just blasting Cheryl Cole's lights out she lingered for unneccessary action and allthough she literally shut the brunette's eye in the proccess, she just couldn't finish the job off. Being too cute after such a lenghty spell on the sidelines isn't the best idea in the world and Duff learned about it the hard way tonight with Cole exposing her chin and rallying late to maintain the unbeaten FCBA record.
Will she recover in time to had a similar punishment to Christina Aguilera on the Official December PPV though? Well, that left eye surely looks bad right now and Aguilera might just want to send a Xmas gift to Duff early. Because that wasn't a customary dress rehearsal fight for the Geordie singer even through it turned out to be her biggest US test to date. And you don't judge the winner too harshly after such a character building performance.
Final result: Cheryl Cole def. Hilary Duff KO9.
