Unified FCBA Flyweight Title Mila Kunis, Ch (20-20-1, 15 KO) vs Selena Gomez (12-9, 10 KO) (Hawkeye International Sports Consortium vs Lioness Club of America) Results: Lookout! Boxing / Story: Vassago
BEFORE: "My time has finally arrived, better late that frickin' never!", the reigning flyweight champion Mila Kunis tells Erin Andrews in the pre-fight interview. Fresh off Boxing World Magazine's "Flyweight Of The Year" award the 32 year old brunette must finally admit to chasing the Natalie Portman and Claire Danes shadows away. It's hard to believe less than twelve months ago she was about to leave the Hawkeye Consortium after going down to Kristen Kreuk but received a lifeline when Hall Of Famer Michelle Williams abruptly retired following her own loss to Vanessa Hudgens. Of course Kunis has since thanked the Lookout! brunette by beating her jugs to a pulp but the Hawkeyes have a score to settle with the Lionesses too and apparently offering Selena Gomez a shot at the throne is a special way to undermine Jessica Lowndes' achievements within the division over the past couple of years.
Is Gomez even ready for the prime time though? She's the proverbial Beta fighter on the Bradenton roster but after racking up three straight wins 2016 was supposed to be her breakout year where she could join Lowndes as Co-Alpha at the very least. But then came Kunis and her one-in-a-lifetime opportunity. At 23 Selena's a complete fighter according to Boxing World Magazine and former league commissioner but she's still the betting underdog against one of the most underrated flyweights of all time.
Mila Kunis wears a golden bikini and red gloves. Black hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Selena Gomez wears a black bikini with pink trim and white gloves. Black hair tied in a sleek ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1: Mila wastes no time in establishing the champion's authority and she slides in on the body to stiff Selena at bay in mid distance. The younger brunette actually has the longer reach but Kunis' ferocity of punches overwhelms that in the early stages and staggers Gomez in the middle of the ring so the champion can dig some leather deep into the midsection after the high guard switch. Selena sends single strikes from behind the earmuff defence but she fails to bother the fast moving champion and is forced into retreat down the stretch when Kunis ups the tempo of her onslaught. However she fails to trap the challenger along the ropes and only gives her a long stare after Selena clinched her to see out the clock in the dying seconds.
Round 2: Kunis triggers another high tempo offence but Gomez shows improved footwork to avoid the leather rush and answers with a solid combo over the top to sink the champion with a double overhand on the temples. Mila tries to adjust her balance but gets whooped on the body herself as Selena somewhat surprisingly closes the distance and barges her way onto the rack reeling Kunis on her heels. A left hook catches the champion on the temple and dumps her on the ropes but Mila bounces off them just in time to avoid a cross hooking route over the top. She circles away from Gomey's striking range but allows the Latin brunette to hassle her around the ring for remainder of the round and that gives new confidence to the LCA entourage as Selena looks pumped during the interval.
Round 3: Selena indeed wants to upset the odds and dominates a close range drill by slamming her gloves into Mila's ribcage and shoving her on the heels in the proccess. The champion avoids getting backed into the ropes so early but a straight jabbing response bounces off the guard and Gomez zips past with a left cross hook to find the nose before adding a heavy uppercut on the chin... and now Mila must yield real estate as she weaves away from the immediate follow up but still has Selena chasing her across the canvas. Gomez seeks a haymaker connection but becomes too hesitant looking for that one hole instead of burying the sluggish champion under a leather barrage and Kunis walks away into safety and keeps the younger brunette at bay swinging a late hooking menace which halts Selena's progress alltogether.
Round 4: Selena explores more cross hooking success and bounces off Mila's cheeks a bit too often which leads the champion into clinching her and wrestling back to the ropes. The fight turns a new page and Kunis slips for a steady ribcage assault while doing just enough to bump the challenger off into the corner and beating her for a quick uppercut combo. Gomez wants to break free from the turnbuckle but bends forward as Kunis leans on her and ravages the breadbasket to make the Latin opponent moan significantly for the first time tonight. This only ups the ferocity of the attack and Mila channels some JMD tactics in the final minute clipping the rack as well and trapping the aching Selena for good however the lack of a really big punch allows her to survive and even clinch the slightly gassing out champion who might be unfortunate not to score a 10-8 round here. Both girls give each other a long stare and Mila enjoys seeing Selena's tummy flashing pale spots where she literally punched the dark complexion raw.
Round 5: Mila's in the groove now and jumps at the challenger full of venom blasting Gomey's high guard aside and clipping her chin just a little too frequently for the LCA"s entourage liking. Nothing coach Schiffer can do personally though as the champ reels the Latin sexpot on her heels and dishes out more facial leather to make Selena scowl in discomfort but unable to shake off the close range heat. Those lanky legs look awfully slow for a while and Mila homes in for more uppercuts and wobbles Gomez into a crunching hook on the brow ridge that's quickly followed by a right hook on the ear from the other side... AND DOWN GOES GOMEY... the Latin vixen collapses flat on her back having soaked up a ton of Kunis' leather in this round... Mila struts back to her corner and winks back to the crowd but Selena's not exactly done here yet... she's up at seven and allthough looks very much worse to wear, the look in her eyes indicates she's got something left here... Kunis somehow doesn't rush in for the coupe de grace probably because she realizes that Gomez's punching resistance has improved a lot over the past year too and you can't take anything for granted with her anymore. A hit & miss show derails Hawkeye's plan to end the bout right here as Selena's leggy escape does the trick. Or is Mila so convinced she simply cannot lose this fight regardless?
Round 6: Most of the audience thinks Mila has Selena beat ever since that knockdown became reality but a sudden rush of Latin temper upsets the somewhat careless champion who allows an uppercut series to crash into her chin and wobble her backwards under a steady lioness leather. Selena actually outworks the champ but takes half-a-step back to apply more range into her strikes and dwarfs the reaching odds blasting Kunis to the ropes in the proccess. So much for letting the challenger off the hook as Gomey sinks Kunis with a belting hook on the navel and drives more uppercuts to complete the comeback trapping Mila in the corner. Things get a bit hectic for the champion who's unable to punish the high guard anymore and clearly struggles while getting shut down with no space to work with. AND GOMEZ BEATS HER FOR A ZIPPING OVERHAND ON THE EYE which tears the skin underneath and makes Mila gasp for air... before she can though Gomey riffles a left hook on the jaw and drops the guard alltogether so that a follow up on the jaw simply pulls the plug on Kunis... AND DOWN GOES THE CHAMP... crashing on her knees at Selena's feet in the dying seconds of the round... Mila takes her time in getting up and now it's her turn to look a bit embarrassed out there... luckily for the Hawkeyes clock expires just as the ref is about to let her back into the fight but Gomey shakes her glove in delight anyway and receives a rampant ovation from the crowd on top of that.
Round 7: Selena switches to mid range from the word go in the seventh again and outworks the champion through sheer ammount of punches. Mila's guard soaks up most of those efforts but she's pummelled around the ring regardless and gives a truly spooked impression down the stretch which only fuels the younger brunette's desire to add more meaningful strikes to the resume. While Kunis escapes getting trapped in the corner again, she lacks the usual aggression and even the BWO pundits are unsure whether this is a special tactics or does the knockdown actually have a bigger impact on the veteran than it did on Gomez in the fifth? Methodical chase allows Selena to easily secure the round as she spikes Mila's face with a flurry of single punches in the final minute and it's suddenly all to play for with Gomez very much riding the title waves.
Round 8: The idea of wearing the challenger down hasn't worked out at all but it was naive to follow it from the start and Mila recovers enough strenght to jump into a classic frenzy one more time dwarfing Gomey's plan to dictate the pace from mid distance. A couple of swirling hooks punish the brow ridge and the most important punch of them all buries Selena's chin allowing Kunis to strike at will with the younger brunette slumping into a lenghty clinch. The champ breaks free and beats her foe for another quick release stalking the bruised cheeks all the way until the two minute mark after which Gomey yields real estate and gets hassled around the ropes. Mila's not done physically here yet either but she lacks the big punch to shut Selena down for good and almost gets caught with a late counter but just manages to slip underneath and blast one last cross hook on the jaw that spins Gomez into the LCA corner right at the bell.
Round 9: LCA coach Claudia Schiffer believes that Selena must charge to secure both the remaning rounds if she wants to dethrone the Hawkeye brunette and despite all the promise and work done on the night it's still anyone's for the taking. Gomey shows some fitness fatigue for the first time tonight but has no options left with Kunis sporting her crafty attitude to the very end. A close range battle ensues from the onset of the ninth but that's never a good plan for Selena who just can't put enough weight behind her shots and gets outworked by a furious body assault that lowers her guard just a little too much. Mila fires a cross hook on the eye and adds a rigt hand on the nose to wobbles Selena into a headbutting route but the speed and agility remain with the older actress who manages to stick a brutal uppercut on the chin in the tighest window possible... SELENA'S HEAD SPRINGS BACK but the loud scowl marks her demise AND SENDS HER CRASHING DOWN ON HER FACE... Ugh! That was a nasty combo right there and poor Gomey can't shake it off in time... she's up on all fours at six but spits out her mouthguard and by the time she's upright the ref counts to ten and waves it off... Selena stares at him thinking she's good to go but the count has concluded and there's no coming back... bad thing that jaw hurts a little too much as well and Gomez collapses against the ropes unable to find her breath... it just doesn't matter anymore... KO9 and STILL your flyweight champion Mila Kunis!!!
AFTER: Mila looks more relieved than happy about this one as she was pushed very close indeed and some might say Selena gave her a tougher test than Lowndes and Hudgens before. And that tells more about the Latin warrior's prospects then it does about Kunis' apparently lockdown scenario for this fight. However Jessica Lowndes remains the true enemy of the Hawkeye state so Mila finds enough respect to offer the out-of-breath challenger a quick hug and promises to cheer for her title run once she retires herself. Even coach Schiffer finds this amusing and tells Erin Andrews that nobody's looked this good in a title defeat for a long while: "Selena's just getting started in the A list. She's not even our Alpha but she gave Mila all she could and almost upset the Flyweight Of The Year. She's not gonna talk to you right now because she's livid with herself. She had Mila at her mercy and well, here's where the experience kicked in as the deciding factor. We looked good in the gym with Shenae Grimes working the drill but after Samia Ghadie upset her few days ago perhaps it simply wasn't enough. But nobody can accuse Gomey of wasting her chance. She had Kunis rattled big time and she can only improve. She's just 23 and has the world at her feet (...) No, I don't know anything about Cassie Scerbo contacting us to spoil Vanessa Hudgens' Asylum showdown. Again, this is just a distraction! The division doesn't circle around Lowndes and Hudgens all the time... OK, it does sometimes but you ought to look at the big picture. Kunis' temporary reign will be over sooner rather than later and now we've got TWO legit contenders for the throne... you really haven't heard the last of Gomey yet!"
Final result: Mila Kunis def. Selena Gomez KO9. |
