BBU "HOLLYOAKS SPECIAL" ROUND ROBIN - WEEK 1

(Beever's Babes vs BBU Independent)

BEFORE: When the Hollyoaks Special was announced no other name was more shocking to see make the cut than Emma Rigby who was thought to be retired after posting a mediocre 4-8 record during her early BBU days tenure. The blonde cutie left UK to purchase a career overseas but has since returned to the old country and now embarks on a TV movie career rather than the soap opera comeback. Along with Jodi Albert she's one of the two former Hollyoaks cast members whose current form is a great unknown and that's a potential banana skin for Beevers' Babes stalwart Gemma Bissix who is touted by several pundits to win the whole show.

Of course Rigby was a member of the Beevers stable until her axe in February 2015 and Bissix reminds the younger actress how she served as her personal punchbag in the gym over that period, a statement which Denise van Outen dismisses as "classic pre-fight mind games". The truth is, not a single person in the Beevers entourage knows how the comeback kid performs tonight and even Bissix's recent victory over Jaime Murray counts for very little given Emma being six years Gemma's junior and lacking the wear & tear of consistent BBU drubbings that plagued her early career.

Gemma Bissix wears a red bikini set and black gloves. Shoulder lenght blonde hair straight. Emma Rigby wears a light blue bikini set and silver gloves. Long blonde straight in loose waves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.

Round 1:
Everyone expects Bissix to annihilate the comeback kid - at least in the early stages of the fight - but the Beevers veteran remains strangely lacklustre on offense almost trying to see out what Rigby has brought to the ring on purpose. And wherever Rigby was hiding over the past three years she seems to have been doing some gym work alright as she snaps Gemma's head back with an impressive power drive upstairs and starts digging into the body when the high earmuff shuts her off from the original target. Gemma's never been the speed demon across the canvas and it causes her a lot of trouble as Emma easily beats her for pace and stays on top of her aggressive route pounding the older blonde to the body like she's never been away. Bissix was made to look really sluggish in that opener but according to Denise van Outen she didn't even try to cause the former stablemate any trouble.

Round 2:
Emma jumps on another quick slant - blasting cross hooking combos up the middle and making steady connection with the older girl's face. Gemma remains flat in execution and settles into a single hand approach which is too slow and too erratic to make any impact. On the other hand Rigby keeps plugging along to the body after another fine switch of targets and bunny hops around the stagnant opponent who seemingly wants to win this fight with basically a single punch assault according to Denise van Outen. But this is not the Beevers gym anymore and when Emma slams a left hook on Gemma's jaw it only earns her a proper response and the older blonde finally looks like she's bothered enough with this fight to actually show some beef. But she's way too slow for Emma anyway and can't quite catch her until the bell while getting whooped over the top in rapid fire response.

Round 3:
No holding back from Bissix anymore and she truly wasted those opening two rounds on purpose by all accounts. She splits Rigby's mitts with a jabbing drive up the middle and begins to swivel the head around the place which drops the younger blonde from her comfort zone and enforces a lenghty clinch as a survival method. But Bissix bumps her off down the stretch and spikes some ribcage to freeze Emma out before blasting a left hook on her own that finds the jaw and reels an aching foe back to the ropes. The pouncing effort fails to pay off though because Rigby escapes at the last moments and stays clear of Gemma for remainder of the round using the superior footwork to her advantage. Bissix urges her to show some guts here by getting vocal however the comeback blonde doesn't blow her fuse just yet and easily runs the clock down dancing around on her toes.

Round 4:
Emma can't deke & weave away from some action all night long though and she tries to resume the body punishment to regain the upperhand but gets belted across her boobs instead and almost gets blasted by a vicious uppercut on the chin that still clips her nose but leaves Bissix leaning forward too much. AND RIGBY SLAMS A LEFT HOOK on the nose herself to make the fellow blonde wince in pain before adding another right hand from point black range which turns Gemma to the side... BUT THE LEFT LEG BUCKLES UNDERNEATH and Bissix goes down on her bums to raise the roof off the Cardiff Arena!!! So much for the favorite tag when Emma Rigby can send you down for the count! And Gemma is visibly furious over this... more furious than even hurt despite her nose looking a little reddish now.. she jumps back to her feet at five but Rigby - against all odds - jumps straight into her path and starts hoofing the jugs apart sinking a shocked veteran on her knees again... a left cross finds the nose again before a right hand buries the solar plexus and Bissix must seek a clinch to survive the power rush. She slumps around Emma's waist but gets her ribcage hammered anyway and ends the round butt-in-ropes with her eyes closed as Rigby threatens the mother & father of all upsets on the Hollyoaks Special!

Round 5:
Rigby thinks she has Bissix rattled and jumps into a leather frenzy to put the fight to bed... BUT SHE GETS CAUGHT with a huge left hook on the nose as Gemma truly gave it her all - and there's not much of it left anyway - to prevent the looming upset. Emma gets stopped in her tracks and staggers in the center of the ring briefly while Gemma finds the immediate follow up and blasts a right hook on the lips SENDING RIGBY'S MOUTHPIECE FLYING OFF... AND DOWN GOES THE COMEBACK KID... Emma collapses flat on her back and pays a monster price for one slip-up... "More luck than was frickin' deserved!!", Denise van Outen can't believe what just happened here and unlike the previous knockdown this one lingers for a long while... Emma's only on her fours at six and makes a brave effort to resume the upright at NINE!!! But her eyes are damn misty!!! She truly never expected such a powerful blow to her chances... Bissix's hurt but now she smiles back at the fellow blonde in cheeky manner and only the fact that ref has to pick up the moutguard prevents the immediate action... Rigby's back to square one and jumps back to the ropes unable to find her mojo anymore and Bissix stalks her with a menacing cross route until the bell but just can't find the speed & agility neccessary to complete her recovery. Still, Emma slumps on her stool aching her heart out and looks very much shaken by that monster one-two that almost send her packing.

Round 6:
The Bissix pounce is on and as Rigby tries to bide her time in mid distance she trips over her own feet in a hectic retreat and that's a critical mistake given the circumstances. She wants to jump to the left but gets belted on the ribcage and before she can jump into a leather response, Bissix catches her with a quick uppercut on the jaw and delivers another hook to the liver area. Emma bends forward and tries to clinch herself some respite yet Gemma shrugs her off her torso and beats for a left hook on the eye that dumps a yelping comeback blonde on the turnbuckle with eyes closed... RIGHT HOOK NAILS RIGBY ON THE LIPS again and this time it pulls the plug on the brave Merseyside actress... Emma goes all shimmy shake and leans back against the turnbuckle which leaves Bissix with no other option that to put her to the orbit... and she does just that with another uppercut on the jaw... Rigby slides down on her bum and remains numb with her chin slumped on the breasts and the hair covering her bruised face. KO6 Gemma Bissix!!!

AFTER: So close yet so far! Emma Rigby was on the verge of causing the biggest upset of the year and truly send the cat among all the Hollyoaks pigeons until she got caught with a Hail Mary-like one-two destruction reality. Gemma Bissix might still be the outright favorite to win the whole show but Jennifer Metcalfe will love to see her struggle so much in what was supposed to be a routine victory. A dress rehearsal before the all important fights even. Gemma didn't even show up in the opening two rounds and probably thought that Emma will fold like a cheap tent and in the end run away with one of the most undeserving wins possible according to Denise van Outen. "Just this damn Beevers luck! With Lisa Maffia and Alesha Dixon milking their punchbag FCBA status having Bissix rise to relevance again is NOT what the BBU TV lead reporter wants to see.

And spare a thought for the comeback blonde. Emma Rigby needs to be revived on her stool and still shows signs of extreme dizziness as she's escorted back to the locker room but if she recovers from this massive letdown she will make a lot of noise on the Hollyoaks Special and beyond. And that was the point of her BBU return in first place, right?

Final result: Gemma Bissix def. Emma Rigby KO6.
