ALEXANDRA CHANDO VS DOVE CAMERON Alexandra: 29 YO, 5’3 (1.60 m), Debut, Medallion Boxing Dove: 20 YO, 5’2 (1.58 m), 2-5-0 since 2014, Unmanaged Results: Lookout Writing: Archer
Before: “This is very exciting for me,” Alexandra says, “you have no idea how much I’ve wanted to be in the ring here. Being Charisma Carpenter’s assistant was rewarding, but, the truth is, I have always wanted to fight. I had almost given up hope when this opportunity presented itself. All the girls at Medallion have done their best to help me get ready: Jessica, Kaley, Eliza, Summer, Piper and Amy, they have been so wonderful. But I know this fight will strictly up to me. I feel have a good chance against Dove, after all, she’s only 2-5 after two years, so it won’t be like I’m fighting Mila Kunis my first time out, but I’m not taking her lightly. I want to win and move on to more fights”
Dove Cameron smiles charmingly at podium: “I have to say it feels strange to be the ‘veteran’ in this fight, but, don’t worry, I am more than ready for this challenge. As Alex was so kind to point out, I’ve only had 2 wins in 7 fights, but those 5 losses have only made me more determined not to lose this fight. I mean it is bad enough to lose to Anna Kendrick and Kristen Stewart, but I’ve got losses to Jeannette McCurdy, Ariana Grande, and Danielle Campbell! Does anyone here think I want to add Alexandra Chando to that list? No…freaking…way! I’m really, really motivated here and it’s gonna show when we fight!”
Alexandra in a light blue bikini for the bout. Matching light blue gloves and boots. Hair pulled back into a serious battle braid. Dove in purple bikini with matching gloves and boots. Dove’s golden hair pulled back into simple ponytail. Both fighters seem tense, but eager to go as they impatiently wait for the referee to finish his instructions. Quick swipe of the gloves and they are back in their respective corners.
R1: Both fighters quick out of their corners and get right down to business. Alexandra striking first to the head of Dove Cameron, then to the body when the blonde covers up. Dove hunching up protectively but moving forward to strike at Alex’s body. Alex standing her ground trying to break through Dove’s constant body movement to land solid punches, but the blonde’s evasive tactics are thwarting this. At the same time, Dove is keeping steady pressure on Alex’s midsection, but slipping an uppercut into Alex’s chin whenever the brunette gives her an opening. Alex then starts circling trying to find a hole in Dove’s defenses, but the blonde is nimble on her feet and turns with the brunette. Final minute sees an intense flurry aimed at each other’s heads. Both landing at least some of these shots, but Dove gets a smashing right to Alex’s left jaw that makes the Medallion boxer lurch away. Dove unable to land follow up due to the bell, but it appears it was what gives her a narrow win on the cards this round.
R2: Alexandra seems to have shaken off that right to jaw during the break as she comes at Dove with determination at the start of this round. Again we get heavy toe to toe shelling this round and most of the leather going to the body. Dove resuming her attack on Alex’s olive skinned midsection, but Alex is firing back into Dove’s creamy torso and it’s starting to become reddened with splotches. Dove and Alex both circling together and Alex starts popping shots over Dove’s gloves into her forehead and then off the sides of her head. Dove hangs on but she is not counterpunching nearly as much and it costs her as the round goes (narrowly) to Alexandra Chando.
R3: More of the same as the two fighters quickly get toe to toe with breaks for circling. Alexandra starts out with more of her over-the-guard head shots, but then shifts back down to belabor Dove’s bruised belly and ribs. Dove working Alexandra’s body at first, but the impacts her own body seem to be taking a bit of the wind out punches. Alex trying to up the pressure late, but runs into a buzzsaw as Dove Cameron unleashes a strong jab. Alex trying to work her way around the jab, does score to the blonde’s chin with a quick uppercut. Dove’s legs shiver and she steps back to recover. It’s not much of a retreat, but it’s just enough to give Alex another close round.
R4: Dove shifts tactics this round and it seems to catch Alexandra by surprise. Instead of falling in for more close in action, Dove uses her footwork for hit and pull back attacks. Her initial attack is to the body giving Alex’s belly and ribs more roasting shots, but when Alexandra tries to pursue, to cut off the blonde and get her under control, it backfires on the brunette. Dove finds Alexandra’s chin and jaw with her quick stabbing shots. Alexandra keeps trying to close on the blonde, but takes a lot of head shots in the attempt and finally backs away looking woozy. Dove just keeps it up and Alex remains on the defensive. She finally is able to protect her head by the time the bell rings, but she is slow moving back to her corner. Round goes to Dove Cameron wide.
R5: Alexandra struggles to recover during the break and comes shooting off her stool headed straight for Dove. The blonde coolly bobs and weaves, jabs and generally lets Alex’s offensive sputter out against her defenses. Then Dove steps forward and brings an uppercut crashing under Alexandra’s loose upper guard, Blow knocks Alexandra backwards on tottering legs and she goes down on her side with a crash. Referee moves in as Alex goes to neutral corner. Alex leaning on her right arm, shaking her head, trying to clear the cobwebs and waiting to 8 before she forces herself to rise just ahead of the count. Fight resumes with Alex over to defense and she struggles to hold Dove off. Constant movement during the second movement as Alex tries to keep Dove too off balance to punch effectively while Dove searches for openings. As the fight clock ticks into the third minute, Dove suddenly sees her chance and a lightning right crashes into Alexandra’s temple. LIGHTS OUT! Alex just crashes to the canvas sprawling on her left side before rolling onto her back, her eyelids fluttering her arms and legs twitching. The count goes to ten, but Alex is unable to rise. THE WINNER: DOVE CAMERON (KO5)
After: “She sure can hit hard, I may not be eating solid food for days,” Dove Cameron says ruefully looking down at badly bruised midsection. “It’s a good thing for me that I was able to move quicker and find openings better than she did. I really feel good about winning this fight,. It was a tough one and I earned the win!”
Alexandra carefully revived by Medallion staff is allowed to speak to the press in the Medallion dressing room.
“I lost and that’s all there is to it. I think I did a pretty good job of keeping up with Cameron but her tactical shift in R4 did catch me off guard. I should have been able to cope with that, but I didn’t and that turned the whole fight in Dove’s favor. Yes, I am discouraged, I thought I could do better, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think I can do better next time out. And there will be a next time. I feel I let my Medallion sisters down and I want to make it up to them.” (This is immediately followed by a loud chorus from Jessica, Kaley, Piper, Summer, Eliza, Piper and Amy: “No! You didn’t let us down! We love you Alex!” Charisma Carpenter herself gives Alexandra a big hig and says: “We’ve all lost a fight Alex. You just pick yourself up and go on to the next. We’ll all behind behind you!” A chorus of affirmative voices is then heard to back up the Medallion leader and Alex gives them all a smile as she fights the tears running down her bruised cheeks).
Hard-fighting contest while it lasted. Alex Chando left enough bruises on Dove Cameron to show she can punch and punch hard, but it was the younger blonde who won the contest with hard hitting punching of her own together with good footwork and an ability to change tactics in mid-fight, These should serve Dove Cameron well in future fights as she takes home a badly needed win. Meanwhile, Alexandra needs to focus on getting her first win and as soon as possible. Fortunately, for her, there is no shortage of small flyweights about her size so her future plans could be very interesting.
