Bridget Regan versus Rachael Taylor
(Words: Bazz / Results: Lookout!)

Before: “I made the transition from Tasmania to Hollywood and now I’m going to make the move from Aussie girl to FCBA fighter. It’s going to be tough but I’m not going to back down. When they told me this month was a month for newbies I told my Bondi crew to get me the toughest you can dig up. Then I found out which fighter management got me. Whoa! The Bridget Regan! My body’s tingling all over I’m so excited! Let’s get it on and make a name in the FCBA!” Rachael Taylor gushes in her Aussie accent.

Bridget Regan giggles and gives a nod towards the Aussie’s podium acknowledging her moxie. “I like her. She talks like she’s got brass ones and her fight schedule lets everyone know that she’s doing her best to back it up. DeCesare, Strahovski and Yustman, that’s playing with the varsity right off the bat. Hell my first fight was against Big Red so maybe it’ll work out in the long run. . .just not tonight. Still we’re going to find out how much Tasmanian Devil she’s got in her that’s for sure.”

Rd 1 Both fighters out cautious until Regan begins the dance with some straight arm lefts, scoring to Taylor’s head. Rachael shocked by the power behind each crisp punch stumbles backwards against the onslaught. Rachael covers up effectively as she bounces up against the ropes. Regan pounding away as Taylor starts scoring herself with some effective counterpunching. Regan gets caught by a couple of Aussie right hands and is forced to back off. With more room to escape from against the ropes Taylor scoots out going for some open space with Regan in hot pursuit. Taylor shimmies to the left leaving a right hand behind that catches Bridget on the chin. Crowd on its feet as Regan is slightly staggered. Taylor pounces throwing punches in rapid succession hoping to inflict more damage. Hopes are dashed quickly when Regan counters with a buggywhip right to the lower torso. Taylor winces finding out the hard way that it’ll take more than one punch to stop Bridgy Regs. Still Taylor puts Regan on the defensive and wins a close round.

Rd 2 Regan storms out of her corner hoping to even things up or possibly win an early evening. Taylor in immediate defense mode as Bridget rains blows down on the blonde. Rachael sets up her defense and throws some counter punching against the attacking red head. Regan backing the Aussie down. She’s power punching and hitting anything in her way showing a rather significant intense rage. Taylor taking the pain on her arms and torso occasionally countering to Regan’s head and torso. Both fighters taking punishment from the other. Regan bobbing and weaving around many of Taylor’s sharp punches. Rachael keeping her distance but staying aggressive darting in and snapping off a jab and a right hand, retreating before Regan can inflict much pain from the bombs that she’s throwing. Crowd very much into the fight watching the new blonde try and survive with agility and guile against her much more powerful opponent. Regan’s crisp jabs and quick right hand have landed enough times to win another close round.

Rd 3 Fighters meet at center ring and fight in close. Each girl trying to out muscle the other, a losing proposition for Rachael. She’s getting pushed around but is landing uppercuts as she is backed up. Regan pushing up against Taylor catching her across the head with short right hands. Suddenly one of Taylor’s right hand catches Bridget flush on the chin with an uppercut and REGAN STEPPING IN FENCE POST HOLES! The Aussie newbie has the Bazz girl in total retreat. Regan up against the ropes, sucking in air and bouncing back and forth keeping herself a moving target. Taylor taking wide swings at Regan trying to get another power shot and a knock out. Rachael tries to slow down and get more accurate punches in but it only allows Regan to put up a more efficient defense so the Bondi girl ramps it back up slinging right hands at Regan’s torso trying to double her over while peppering her with left hand jabs to the face. Meanwhile Bridget is regaining her composure with each passing second. She’s blocking most incoming blows coming from the Aussie who seems to be looking like a fighter that is too shocked at being in this position to take any real advantage. The bell rings and the crowd roars its approval. Many had seen the Lancaster fight and an upset here would make that fight look like a ho hum nothing new event.

Rd 4 Regan seems back in form as she bounces by Taylor at mid ring ducking a left hand swipe from the Bondi girl. Taylor trying her best to keep her composure knowing full well the opportunity that she missed in the last round. Regan more in control now, not letting the blonde fighter get by her with what can no longer be called, lucky punches. She’s focused with gloves up and strong jabs searching out her opponent. Rachael bouncing around the perimeter using her own jab to set up another shocker. For a moment the fight is slower and both fighters are playing it conservative. Bridgy Regs circles to her left snapping off jabs and leaving trailing rights behind, scoring at will while Taylor tries to keep up. Regan doles out hits to the torso that are slowing Taylor down now. Redhead’s change in strategy first to take her opponent more seriously and then to return to what she does best, quickness on display for a welter followed by some power punching is turning the tide as the round comes to an end.

Rd 5 Regan like a machine now. She’s scoring with regularity with her right hand and it’s damaging the blonde Aussie. Taylor looking for places to hide and recover but she’s finding that no place is safe. Regan moves in head on with a jab and then a thundering right hand to the torso that momentarily doubles over Taylor. Blonde stays in it throwing counters that the Bazz girl has to respect now. Rachael gets an overhand right to score which brings the crowd to its feet still hoping that there still may be more in Taylor’s tank. Reagan retreats and then bouncing at the outer edges lunges back in with a strong two punch combination that pushes Taylor back to the ropes. Aussie fights back going low with her own combination as Regan retreats catching the redhead on her left side. Crowd into it now as the action has ramped right back up. Fighters close now throwing their best punches in rapid fire motion. Regan catches Taylor lightly with a left cross to the chin and then with a flourish launches a right hand uppercut cross that knocks Rachael’s head sideways and DOWN GOES THE BONDI GIRL! Right hand from Regan is a devastating punch that sends the Bondi girl down onto her side motionless. Crowd erupts as ref moves in and counts to ten as quickly as his fingers will move so that Taylor’s corner can get in and take care of her. It’s Bridget Regan with a KO in Round 5!

After: “You know it was a quick one but by no means easy. Like I said Rachael has brass ones. She caught me a couple of times and with a little more experience she probably won’t take the foot off of the gas pedal. I think that if she wants to fight in this league she’ll do pretty darn well. Maybe some work against some of the lower quality to get her confidence up and then she can go as a big light or a small welter. She’s sneaky quick that’s for sure.” When asked about her next fight and if it will include a certain other redhead Bridgy Regs smiles and points over at Poindexter Del Crunchy and Elisabeth Rohm who are taking interviews and says, “Ask them.”
