BEFORE: "First of all, I'm NOT related to Paula Patton and I want everyone to understand that from the moment I enter the ring!", another new face in the FCBA makes a strong statement ahead of her debut addressing some twitter buzz that Candice Patton is indeed Paula's younger sister or even a daughter according to an extremely bemused Tyra Banks. "Secondly I plan to compete at bantamweight since I'm natural at 119 lbs and don't intend to change that just to punish most of the CW brats! Vanessa Hudgens, you're off the hook! (laughs)"
However the biggest news on Patton's debut is Eva Mendes arriving in her corner and while several Las Vegas fans linked her presence to Cheryl Cole and nobody really expected her to feature ringside for this particular bout and even the bantamweight connection doesn't make much sense. Of course she was knocked out by Meghan Markle back in December 2014 but the rematch prospects are quickly denied by the LCA owner himself who confirms the Latin veteran has landed in Nevada to evaluate 'The Flash' actress potential as she ponders her future career in coaching: "Yep, we're scouting Candice for the time being, Eva wants to become a head trainer once she retires but I have no idea if she can spot a raw talent if she stumbles over it. Nobody knows a thing about 'the other' Patton so let's see how Eva guides her through the debut fight! Should be fun!"
All eyes on Patton pre-fight but Meghan Markle desperately tries to stay in the divisional spotlight as a free agent and while she ended last season with an impressive win over Elizabeth Banks most pundits don't think she can beat anyone born in the 80s anymore and Patton - being seven years her junior - serves as a test of strenght especially with Eva Mendes floating around ringside.
Candice Patton wears an orange bikini with black stripes and orange gloves. Black hair pulled back in a tight ponytail. Meghan Markle wears a red bikini set and black gloves. Long dark brown hair in loose waves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1:
The newcomer shows a lot of effort early but lacks precision neccessary to put Markle under serious threat and once she bounces off the tight earmuff a but too frequently she also wobbles too far forward and eats a clubbing right hook on the temple which sets the veteran brunette off. Meghan slams more punches from close range and rocks Patton's head back before bumping her onto the heels and driving a belting hook on the navel that bends the rookie into a flying series of jabs that reel Candice onto the ropes amid a desperate cover. That makes Eva Mendes really upset in the corner and Patton's unable to shake the older brunette off until the bell soaking up more facial attacks in the proccess.
Round 2:
Meghan believes that Candice is all talk and jumps at her with no sympathy whatsoever romping through the high guard and making a steady connection with her cheeks. Patton's footwork leaves a lot to desire and the rookie allows the fellow brunette to dominate the close range exchange before blasting a single hook on the nose in a subdued effort to halt the Markle charge. That doesn't work at all and Mendes is screaming her heart out again as the 'Suits' actress loops more piercing hooks on the temples and backs a hapless opponent butt-in-ropes come the final minute before cleaning out Patton's breadbasket for a good measure. Candice is livid with herself at the bell but she just can't break through with her efforts thus far.
Round 3:
Markle remains committed to a rushing attack and she targets the younger actress upstairs in the opening minute to root Patton to the spot in the center of the ring. However she struggles to slice the guard as effectively as before and gets countered over the top when Candice unloads a jabbing series with a loud shrieking noise backing her effort. Meghan gets clubbed on the nose twice in a row and wobbles to the side; she thinks better of it and circles into mid range adjusting her stance while Patton shows some poise and retrats quickly to avoid another looming attack. Markle's eyes glare with disdain but she can't close the newcomer down before the bell anymore.
Round 4:
Both women jump in with a flurry of jabs but Candice smacks her efforts into Meghan's jaw and wobbles her on the heels which is a welcomed change for the Las Vegas audience who are treated with the best rushing attack of the night and Patton gets a little vocal while landing heavy leather into her opponent's face. Markle's guard gets exposed and the older brunette begins to scowl in pain when a double hooking drive connects with the chin and spins her to the side; she commits into immediate response but gets beaten for another overhand hook which slams her on the nose and makes the moaning even louder... and Patton pounds her up the middle thereafter suddenly kicking into higher gear and rooting the veteran to the spot amid a flurry of punches that fail to inflict further damage on Markle but shut her off completely and surely that's the performance both Candice and Eva were looking for all night long!
Round 5:
Meghan can't hide the disgust on her face but the efforts to make this bout a little personal are thwarted when Candice loops a crunching hook into her brow ridge to assume quick control in the fifth and just take it from there... Markle can't put enough weight behind her shots anymore and gets pushed into the corner when a frantic assault connects with the chin again and wobbles her backwards. A solid hook on the mouth doesn't stop Patton's charge who buries the struggling veteran under more leather and this time picks Meghan off well, roughing up some flesh and dumping the older brunette into a deep earmuff in the final minute. Candice thrives on her foe's defensive stance and continues smashing more leather in the gut which forces a loud scowling response from Markle who then earns a late hook on the nose when she tries to open up and actually dwarf Patton's ferocious drive.. a bad idea all around as Meghan ends the round with blood seeping from her nostrils.
Round 6:
Candice squares up to her slow moving opponent and while Meghan tries to weather the storm in mid range, she can't match the fellow brunette's speed across the canvas anymore and soaks up an uppercut drive that shatters her guard and sends her head into more circles... Patton clatters into the chin with no sympathy whatsoever and renders Markle completely shut down in the center of the ring before tackling the liver area and slumping the embattled 'Suits' actress against her waist. Meghan's settles into the clinching escape but gets her midsection drilled repeatedly and aches even louder. Patton outmuscles her and gains separation even without the referee's help before blasting a left cross on the patched up nose which opens the bloody path again and pulls the plug on Markle alltogether with a right hook on the ear... MEGHAN CRASHES FACE-DOWN ON THE CANVAS and remains spread eagle until the count reaches seven... she bravely tries to salvage whatever's left of her pride but can only push herself off the elbows and sits down on her heels when the count reaches ten... cue in the spasms of defeat and a rookie victory!!! KO6 Candice Patton!!!
AFTER: Eva Mendes jumps into the ring and quickly embraces the newcomer while Meghan just doesn't realize what happened here moments ago... and the Las Vegas is truly stunned by the comeback as the 'Flash' CW actress was completely lost at sea after two rounds yet still manhandled the veteran in convincing fashion! The Mendes-Patton connection remains the talk of the town as the verdict is announced and whatever evaluation LCA has in mind, it remains to be seen if Eva works as a freelance coach from now on. She denies having secretly retired from active competition and suggests that Minka Kelly's arrival allowed her to take care of her own business without hampering the stable's imminient plans: "You know fully well my manager got a long-time free agent Sarah Lancaster into a title situation and well, it's supposed to be about new faces this month, right? So why don't ya all ask where did Candice come from? The CW community has some fire left and it's my job to help some of these girls out! Autumn Reeser and Danielle Harris would be proud of that approach! Since I can't book Grace Park and Jenny McCarthy into a fight anymore what stops me from hand-picking my heirs?"
