BABES, BAZZ & WELTERS TOO @ THE ASYLUM

BEFORE:
"Well," says Lucy with a smile, "I guess it's safe to say that I did not exactly cover myself with glory the last time I was here. But that WAS Allison Mack, who went out a few months later and won the belts. I fancy my chances a bit more this evening."
"Last time I stepped in here with a Brit, it didn't go as well as I'd have liked," says Kat with a smile of her own. "Well. I may not be Allison Mack, but she's not Helen Flanagan."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that is 'Lucy', by Julian Lennon, and here comes the lovely Lucy Griffiths of Beever's Babes."
Tess: "And, Lucy, is, of course, referring to her fight here last march against Allison..."
McCarthy: "DON'T..."
Tess: "'Mack The Knife' Mack..."
McCarthy: "WHY DO YOU ALWAYS SAY IT????"
Tess: "Griffiths did fight well defensively in spots and got a couple of rounds, but got stopped in the fourth."
O'Dell: "Griffiths into the ring and helped off with the robe by the Beever's Babes corner crew. Wearing that white two-piece we saw the last time she was here, and that's 'I Don't Feel Like Dancing' by Scissor Sisters pounding through Asylum, and that can only mean that Kat 'The Rack' Dennings is on her way to the ring..."
McCarthy: "Pretty soon, they'll just start calling her Kat 'The Failure' Dennings, because she's never accomplished anything and never will as long as she's taking direction from that LOSER Neve Campbell!"
Cassie: "Dennings was, by the by, referring to one of the better fights we saw here at Asylum last year in her pre-fight interview, the eight-round war she fought with Helen Flanagan, which ended with the Brit claiming a TKO8."
O'Dell: "Kat into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. There's that curve-hugging black bikini she likes, and the audience showing its appreciation as usual..."
McCarthy: "The way these people in Philadelphia cheer an average body like that! If I got up there and stripped off my clothes, they might all have heart attacks!"
Cassie: "Or wonder why a woman old enough to be a grandmother continues to insist on stripping."
McCarthy: "OLD...GRAND...I'LL...SIRI, CALL..."
Tess: "I think I smell smoke..."
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, WALMARRRRTTTTTTTT!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys. Calm down, Mac, and let's get some picks, because the fighters are ready. Tess favors Kat. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Even Dennings can beat this tomato can! She doesn't have a single FCBA win and none in the BBU, either."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess."
O'Dell: "And, here we go. Griffiths bouncing on the balls of her feet, gloves up, all slick movement. Dennings wants to work forward, square, close, use the pressure, but Griffiths hard to find with that funky style of hers. Gloves crossed, head tucked and bobbing, snapping out little left hands to slow Kat's forward motion..."
Cassie: "Just like what we saw early between Griffiths and Mack. Kat having problems with the geometry."
McCarthy: "She has problems adding two and two let alone worrying about vertical angles!"
Tess: "Vertical..."
McCarthy: "All vertical angles are equal. Basic geometry."
Cassie: "Truck, have someone come out here and pinch me. I think I'm dreaming."
McCarthy: "You're GOING to be dreaming in about 30 seconds!"
O'Dell: "Calm down, Mac and let's concentrate on the ring, where Griffith is fighting one heck of a defensive round. Dennings staying patient, looking to get to spots and get punches going, but Lucy all, well, angles, she's landing little left hands, dropping in the occasional right, but, mostly proving almost impossible to land a punch cleanly on."
Tess: "And, this isn't all about preternatural quickness like someone at this table has..."
McCarthy: "Thank you!"
Tess: "I was referring to CASSIE..."
McCarthy: "Well, I'm prenaturally quick, too!"
Cassie: "And, I'm AWAKE..."
O'Dell (sighing): "Final 30 seconds of this one ticking away, and, right you are, Tess. Griffiths IS athletic, but her defense is more about technique and timing and slickness and style than it is about quickness. Either way, though, it works. And, what she does is force you to miss and open yourself up for counters like that right hand there. And, there's the bell. Not a ton of action, just like Lucy likes it. Round close to Griffiths."
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, SCABBO!"
Tess: "Took her a full 30 seconds to get it. Might be a record..."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Dennings again looking to pressure, but, again, having trouble getting much on target against the unorthodox Griffiths. Lucy getting the left out and then the right up across behind it, head everywhere and nowhere, great footwork, always angling. Kat patient, working her own feet, looking for an opening, working a little body now..."
Cassie: "And, that might be a key for Kat, getting some work done downstairs."
O'Dell: "Griffiths popping that left, using it to manage Dennings. Kat looking to square and NAILS LUCY WITH A LEFT HOOK! Griffiths staggered by that quick left and Kat now squaring up a buzzed Griffiths and backing her up with a barrage of leather. Dennings opening up with both barrels now..."
McCarthy: "Lucky punch!"
O'Dell: "Dennings working Griffiths back to the ropes and letting her have it. Lucy still able to slip and block a lot of stuff, moving the head, hands, and shoulders, but shell IS getting through and doing damage as we head down the stretch. Dennings back to the body now, hooking ribs, then going back upstairs to finish the round with a solid one-two to the head. Bell! Dennings takes it wide after turning things around with one punch."
Tess: "When you see stuff like that, you understand why Wiz likes this girl so much. 19-19 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Griffiths moving well again as this one starts and we're back to the terms we had in the first round. Kat looking to pressure, wants to get barreled up and bring heavy leather to bear. Lucy not having any. She's all angles and unorthodox defense. Check out the arm position here, hands crossed at times..."
McCarthy: "Scabbo IS right about one thing. This kind of style can be difficult to deal with. It can be frustrating and frustration leads to mistakes."
O'Dell: "Kat again staying patient. No doubt she reviewed plenty of video of Mack/Griffith, so she knew what she was walking into here. Lucy looking to bait Dennings into misses, then countering with solid right hands. Popping out those little lefts, slipping side to side, anything to foul her rival's sights."
Tess: "And, she's definitely slowed Kat down. Dennings usually has a pretty high work rate with that pressure style, but she's working in a much more restrained way tonight."
O'Dell: "And, while that's limiting Griffiths' chances to counter, it's also limiting Dennings' opportunities to score, and, once again we're in defensive, low-scoring round that's just what Lucy likes. Ten seconds remaining here in the third. Fighters working hard, but, again, not a lot of action. And there's the bell. Again, close to Lucy."
Cassie: "And, Griffiths now leads 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins with more of the defense-and-counter strategy from Lucy. Griffiths very slick, just not allowing Dennings to range in. Kat trying to locate with the left, wants to get that home and use it to set up the heavy right hand. Not able to do it, though, as there's very little to hit, and Griffith taking advantage of every miss with sharp counters..."
Tess: "RIGHT HAND HURT LUCY!"
O'Dell: "Absolutely! Kat keyholed a straight right and wobbled Griffiths! And Dennings now going over to the offensive in a big way. She's hammering away with both hands, gets Griffith trapped on the ropes again, and now puts the sledgehammer hooks to the body. Griffiths keeping the guard up, again moving the head, shoulders, hands, limiting damage when Kat works upstairs..."
McCarthy: "If I'm in Dennings' corner, I tell her to forget about the body right now and get this girl out of here."
O'Dell: "Doesn't look like the plan at the moment, though, as the Front Streeter working both upstairs and down as we head down the stretch. She's getting plenty of shell home to the body, not as much to the head. Fifteen seconds to go. Dennings getting lots of work done, but Griffiths going to ride this out a second time. There's the bell. Kat wide."
Cassie: "But, Lucy still in this thing, and we're even at 38 on the cards."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Dennings out aggressively now. Kat walking forward, through Lucy's jabs, backing her up with hard fire. Heavy pressure from Dennings, not worried about missing now, getting enough leather flying to suppress Griffiths and back her up. Lucy keeping the guard up, still hard to find, still countering..."
Cassie: "But Kat getting off heavy now. She's crowding Lucy, using all that power to her advantage."
O'Dell: "She's getting very physical, no question about that. Griffiths a good right hand counter, but Dennings walks through it, closes space, works body, NASTY hook to the ribs and Griffiths felt it and DOWN GOES LUCY! A BRUTAL right hook from Dennings and Griffiths dropped to her right side!"
Tess: "Landed that one as clean as a whistle, Jenny!"
O'Dell: "No doubt about it. Dennings to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Griffiths rolls to her back. Six. Seven. Eight. Arm across her eyes. She's not going to beat it. Nine. TEN! It's over! Griffiths still on her back as it passes her by, and your winner by KO5 is Kat "The Rack" Dennings!"
McCarthy: "Lucky punch."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Kat Dennings, and, Kat, she's a tough puzzle to solve, but you solved it."
Kat (nodding): "All about being patient, then NOT being patient. Didn't want to get after her hard early and give her a chance to pile up points and get in rhythm with those counters. I wanted to let the fight come to me, but, when it did, I wanted to get after her and finish."
Tess: "And, you did. What's next for you?"
Kat: "I'll leave that up to management, but I'm planning on a big 2016. This is an opportunity for me to make my move, and I'm going to take advantage of it."
