Leigh is ambitious for sure, but the 24 year-old may be out of her depth tonight against 28 year old Mollie, although her pal Jade Thirlwall beat the Saturdays star last year.

Leigh looks like a girl with a mission, dressed in green shorts and tallow sports bra, with yellow gloves and red boots, with her blonde opponent in a scarlet leather one piece, with matching boots and gloves.

Round 1

The girls are off to a fierce start, and it’s Mollie who takes charge in the early part of the round, smacking Leigh to the ropes with left jabs, and pinning her there, rifles some hard right hand punches into her body, and a left to the jaw, Leigh in trouble already, takes another quick combination of shots from the older girl, but she’s fighting back well, giving Mollie some punishment back, her punches straight and well organised, and Mollie gives some ground, Leigh off the ropes, and she hits the older girl with good shots to press her backwards, Mollie retaliating in the closing seconds, still in charge of the round.

Round 2

Mollie’s looking good again as the girls resume, and she’s got her jab scoring points in the opening seconds again, Leigh’s right cheek and eye taking punishment, but the girl again fights back, and she’s bodyhunting, hitting Mollie’s taut abs with heavy shots, the blonde holding and clinching, stopping the action, the referee having to drag the girls apart. Leigh makes a quick response, though, and she’s got Mollie rocking with some good right hand shots, Mollie giving her some back, but Leigh’s wobbling Mollie with her punching, and she’s finding herself backing up to the ropes as Leigh whips in some hard shots to her body again as the round closes, the fight looking pretty even.

Round 3

Leigh’s making a solid start to the third round, and she has Mollie going backwards almost immediately, her left jab spearing the blonde to her face, and a right hook to her ribs has her gloves dropping, Leigh landing a right hook over the top of Mollie’s gloves, and she sits her down! Mollie King takes an 8 count in round three, and Leigh pours in as they restart, hitting Mollie very firmly with her right, but Mollie takes those shots, Leigh over eager perhaps, mistiming punches, and she pays the penalty as Mollie gives her some good punches back as the round draws to a close, Leigh gasping and grunting as Mollie’s gloves thud into her ribcage, but that’s still Leigh’s round.

Round 4

Leigh makes a nice, quick start, but Mollie’s landing too many punches in response, Leigh needing to tighten up her defence, because she’s looking vulnerable to Mollie’s left hook, the blonde ripping those punches in now, and she’s marking Leigh’s face, the younger girl’s skin grazing around her eye socked and cheekbone, although Leigh is still fighting back hard, hammering Mollie’s body where she can, but she takes a crunching left and right combination as the round draws towards a close, and Mollie traps her on the ropes and gives her some heavy punishment, Leigh staggering slightly as she goes to her corner.

Round 5

Mollie’s all over Leigh as the action restarts, and she’s loosening the younger girl up with some hard shots to her body, and in comes that left hook again, right on Leigh’s swelling cheek – and she’s bleeding, now, cut very near the eye, and she wobbles as Mollie hits her again to the body, and another, Leigh’s arms flailing in hopeless defence, Mollie landing another left hook, and down does Leigh, blood smeared across her face, but she gets up, on her feet at 8, her legs unsteady, blood running down her face, and the referee stops the fight – saving Leigh from being more badly hurt.

Result: Mollie King stopped Leigh-Anne Pinnock in round 5.

Mollie really is taking her performance up to a higher level these days, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock has been well beaten, although she will have learned from this.
