BEFORE:
"Well, it's been awhile," says Vanessa with a lovely smile. "But, I'm back. And, I know no one gives me a chance tonight. But, then again, no one gave Bundchen a chance, either, and look how that came out."
"See, everybody thinks they're Bundchen," says Serinda with a hard-eyed look. "Well, even Bundchen isn't Bundchen, and this girl is no Bundchen."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "We're back at ringside and..."
McCarthy: "I have no idea what Swan is TALKING about? 'Even Bundchen isn't Bundchen'? That doesn't make any SENSE! Of COURSE Bundchen is Bundchen, who else would she be?"
Tess: "I smell smoke..."
McCarthy: "I mean, obviously she isn't Klum! Klum is Klum and Bundchen is Bundchen!"
O'Dell (sighing): "That's 'Rule The World' by Beyonce you hear, and one of her biggest fans on the way to the ring, the lovely Vanessa Minnillo!"
Tess: "Minnillo was always a small light/big bantam, but she's a pure light now. Thickened up over the last couple of years, and, at 5'7", she has the height to carry the weight."
O'Dell: "Minnillo into the ring and helped off with the robe, and that green, orange, yellow, and black striped bikini makes it clear she's in great shape. And, that's 'Foxey Lady' by Jimi Hendrix pounding through the arena, and that can only mean that 'The Hottest Player In The Game', Serinda Swan, is on her way to ringside..."
McCarthy: "Again, she's 'The Second Hottest Player In The Game' now that I've come out of retirement. Come to think of it, she's no more than third, because Bundchen is hotter..."
Cassie: "And Bundchen is Bundchen..."
McCarthy: "Of COURSE she is! It's about TIME you start making sense, Scabbo!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Swan into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that familiar red bikini, which gets its normal appreciative reaction from the crowd, and, we're about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Swan. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Minnillo is the typical Dancing Hooker opponent, no FCBA wins. But. This is Swan, who lost twice to Bundchen. I think Minnillo pulls the upset!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess."
O'Dell: "And, there's the bell. Vanessa right to that left jab. As we've seen in the past, it's very effective and she wants to use it to manage distance. Swanny all right with that. she'll fight at range all night long with her length and power and we're settling down into some gunboat stuff..."
Tess: "Some feeling out going on, too. It's mostly jabs right now as both fighters probe defenses."
O'Dell: "No question about that. Neither brunette committing on much of anything, as they slowly turn clockwise in the middle of the ring. Minnillo looking to have a bit more snap on that jab now, Mac. We mentioned that she's filled out some and looks to be a full light now, and that may be the difference..."
McCarthy: "No question she looks a bit sturdier, Jenny."
O'Dell: "Thirty seconds to go in the first. Slow, clockwise rotation continuing. Good one-two by Swan as she gets a solid right hand on. Minnillo not taken aback by that. She gets right back to popping that left hand. Serinda getting into a bit of rhythm now as we approach the bell, getting punches put together. And, there it is. First in the books. Close to Swan."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins the way the first ended, with the slow clockwise rotation, both long, lovely beauties using their left hands to solid effect. Minnillo banging a little rack with hers now. Swan not happy about that, responds with a solid combination that forces Vanessa to cover up. Minnillo backed up with another solid right..."
Cassie: "Sturdier or not, Vanessa doesn't want to trade with Serinda."
O'Dell: "Minnillo firing back and that's exactly what we have! We've got a serious exchange going and SWAN WOBBLES VANESSA! A BLISTERING right hand from Serinda and Minnillo's hurt. Swan all in immediately hammering away at the older brunette, backing her up with every flurry..."
McCarthy: "Minnillo needs to counter here, try to hold ground, because she doesn't want to get trapped on the ropes..."
O'Dell: "But, that's exactly what's happened. Swan all over Vanessa. Looking to create our second consecutive second-round stoppage. Minnillo hanging on, though, leaning forward and tying Swan up. Serinda punching free, but Vanessa clinches again. Swan shoves her back, works some body, but, again, Minnillo ties up. Ten seconds left. One more good right by Swan and there's the bell. Serinda wide."
Tess: "And, Swan now leads 20-18 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Swan wants to pressure as we begin the third, but Minnillo immediately tying up. Vanessa's found ways to slow Serinda down via the clinch in that last round, and she's sticking with the strategy now. She's whacking some body with the free hand, wrestling around in there, frustrating Swan..."
Cassie: "Been there. When you're the quicker, stronger girl, and I ALWAYS am..."
McCarthy: "We may need to knock out a wall in the arena after the card to get your HEAD outside..."
Tess: "Look who's talking, 'Playmate of the Freaking Century'..."
McCarthy: "Well, I AM..."
O'Dell: "Minnillo pretty effective with this clinching. She's tying up Serinda's right arm, not allowing any power punching inside, and she continues to work body for points with the free hand. Swan shoving off repeatedly, and little exchanges follow, but Vanessa quickly tying up again..."
Cassie: "And, as I was saying, when you're quicker and stronger, sometimes the opponent will try this to frustrate you. You just have to work through it."
O'Dell: "Swan trying to work OUT of it right now, but Minnillo not allowing that to happen. She's grabbing and holding at every opportunity. Referee breaking repeatedly, but, almost as soon as he does so, Vanessa ties up again. Swan thumping a little body inside now, trying to make Minnillo pay a price, but, there's the bell, and Vanessa carries the round narrowly."
Tess: "And cuts the lead to 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Swan wants distance to start the fourth. She's looking to work the jab now and keep Minnillo away. Vanessa jabbing back and we're back to the rhythm we saw in the first round. A slow, clockwise turn with both fighters leaning on the left and looking to create space for right hands. Minnillo landing one there and SHE WOBBLED SWAN WITH IT!"
McCarthy: "That was a GREAT punch! Right over the left hand!"
O'Dell: "And Vanessa now throwing all the chips into the middle of the table. This is a huge chance for her and she knows it. She's firing away with both hands, damn the torpedoes at this point. She's just letting the hands go, backing Swan up. Serinda in a high guard giving ground, getting forced to the ropes..."
Cassie: "Vanessa landing hard stuff, and pretty accurate stuff, too. She's tossing away the defense, but she's not getting sloppy."
O'Dell: "Definitely is not. She's got Swan in trouble and she's determined to finish this thing. Serinda countering here and there, doing just enough to avoid a stoppage, but there are still 30 seconds left. GOOD right hand from Vanessa shook Swan. Serinda keeping that guard high, leaning back in the ropes, trying to roll with. Five seconds left. Minnillo digs a NASTY hook to the belly and there's the bell. Swan still on her feet, but that's Vanessa wide..."
Tess: "And, we're even at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Minnillo charging out of the corner after Swan and GETS ROCKED! Serinda stops Vanessa cold with a right hand and now Swan going on the offensive in a big way. She's battering Vanessa back into the ropes with ham-fisted stuff and then absolutely ABUSING her body as the older brunette puts it on sale with the high guard..."
Tess: "Swan not exactly a happy camper in there with the rack stuff and the holding. She may be working out a little frustration here."
O'Dell: "Certainly looks that way, because she's digging body with both hands, not even bothering to work upstairs. Minnillo keeping the guard up, groaning into her gloves, but unwilling to drop it and make Serinda's job easier. Swan not worrying about it, just thumping away downstairs with both hands..."
Cassie: "Minnillo starting to bunch up now. She's got a great body, but she can't take this kind of beating for too long."
O'Dell: "AND SWAN STRAIGHTENS HER UP WITH AN UPPERCUT! Minnillo slumping forward, grabbing Swan for support and hanging on. Serinda shoving off, but Vanessa into the clinch again, hugging Serinda desperately, running clock. Swan shoves off again, bangs some more body. Ten seconds to go. Minnillo clinching again. And, she manages to run the clock out. There's the bell. Shutout Swan."
McCarthy: "But, Minnillo still in this. 48-47 at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "This time it's Swan quickly out of the corner and across the ring. Minnillo giving ground before a full frontal assault. Serinda using that heavy Front Street jab like a sledgehammer, splitting Vanessa's gloves, opening her up for right hooks behind the guard. Vanessa gamely trying to hold some ground here..."
McCarthy: "HAS to. Doesn't want to spend another round trapped on the ropes."
O'Dell: "Vanessa managing to slow Serinda's advance a little, but she's far from stopping it. Minnillo's legs not all the way back, and Swan just walking right through her...DOWN GOES MINNILLO! Swan blasts that right hook home behind the guard and Vanessa crumples to the canvas on her right side..."
Tess: "I don't think she's getting up from that..."
O'Dell: "Swan to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Vanessa rolls to her belly. She's trying to get to her feet. Seven. Eight. Minnillo pushes up to hands and knees. Nine. And she slumps back to the canvas! TEN! It's over! That quickly, it's over! And your winner by KO6 is 'The Hottest Player In The Game', Serinda Swan!"
Cassie: "Check the replay on this and I'm amazed Minnillo could even get to her hands and knees. There's the left jab, pops the head back. Here comes the right. BOOM! Look at the head swivel. Not much question this one was over at that point."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Serinda Swan, and, Serinda, you said coming in that you wanted to get a good start to 2016..."
Serinda (nodding): "Absolutely. Last year didn't start well and I spent the rest of the year climbing back. This year, I'm going to start fast and just keep on rising."
Tess: "Wiz always says that, physically, you have as many tools as any fighter he has. I think we saw some of that tonight."
Serinda (smiling): "Well, Wiz isn't wrong. And, look at you saying nice things about me! Maybe it's time for me to forget about you saying I ought to be one of the girls Wiz let go to cut the stable down to six."
Tess (smiling): "That would be nice."
Serinda (grinning): "Good. We'll bury the hatchet. And I can concentrate on hating that clown who runs LCA."
