BEFORE:
"I was wondering if I'd ever get a chance over here," says Sam with a gorgeous smile. "I'm glad this is happening, and I'm grateful to Front Street for bringing me here. Not so grateful that I'm not going to knock out their girl, mind. But, grateful."
"Somebody's getting knocked out tonight," says Pink with a nod. "But, Sam's going to be surprised when she finds out who it is."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Another Saturday Night' by another Sam Cooke you hear, and here comes the British glamour model who shares the name of the famous singer..."
McCarthy: "I'm confused..."
Tess: "Shocking!"
McCarthy: "Shut UP, Walmart!"
O'Dell: "Drink up boys and watch as the lovely Ms. Cooke is helped off with the robe to reveal a sea foam green two-piece and a body that gets the crowd buzzing..."
McCarthy: "She MIGHT make 'Playboy'. Maybe..."
Cassie: "She was named 'Best Breasts In Britain'. I don't think she'd have a problem getting a pictorial..."
McCarthy: "Shut up, Scabbo. What do you know?"
O'Dell (sighing): "I know that you're hearing 'Trouble' behind us, and that can only mean that the singer of said song, 'The Queen of Front Street', Pink, is on her way to the ring..."
McCarthy: "Cooke could win THIS disrobe in her sleep."
O'Dell: "Pinkness down the aisle and into the ring quickly. Helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. Wearing that black bikini with the white skulls on it she likes. And, we're about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Pink. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Cooke's a typical Dancing Hooker opponent. No FCBA wins. BUT. She has won a couple of fights in the BBU, and that makes her better than Pink, who's ducked me for YEARS. Cooke."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess."
O'Dell: "And, there's the bell, and we're right at it as the fighters simply come to mid-ring and begin slugging away. Not a lot of finesse in the early going, this is just toe-to-toe trading as the ladies are clearly looking to impose will immediately, and, as you might expect, neither looking like allowing that to happen..."
Tess: "Give credit to Cooke for being willing to stand in front of a veteran with the power Pink has. She didn't come here to survive, she came to win."
O'Dell: "No question of that, and no question about the power either fighter is showing right now. These are some heavy shots landing, as the ladies are sitting down on these punches. Both are moving the head, hands, and feet, though. No dancing or circling, but there's angling going on aplenty."
Cassie: "And, Sam not looking out of her element doing this. She appears to be plenty athletic and she's moving well."
O'Dell: "Good right hand by Pink followed by a solid right from Sam. Back and forth stuff from the very beginning and that's not changing in the final 30 seconds. Neither fighter taking a step back here. Just firing off barrages of leather and it's really picking up with ten seconds to go. Heavy exchange right there has the crowd into it and there's the bell! Action round. Close to Cooke."
McCarthy: "Got to admit, I'm impressed with Cooke to this point."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second round sees us right back at it. Ladies meet in the center and begin banging. Pink starting to work some body now, hooking the ribs and banging the flanks. Sam responding in kind and now we're seeing that up and down action as the fighters create openings by shifting their targets..."
Cassie: "Pink a fighter who likes to work body. She's so sturdy and muscular that she can wear you out there long before you can do the same to her."
McCarthy: "Maybe SOME girls, but not ALL of us, and a girl built like Cooke? I don't THINK so."
O'Dell: "Investment definitely being made though. Pinkness working more downstairs than Sam is, but both fighters putting time and effort into the body attack in this stanza. Cooke landing a solid right to the head and Pink responds with a BIG flurry! That one backed Sam up a step, but Cooke right back forward."
Tess: "I'll say it again. Sam didn't come here to survive. She came here to win."
O'Dell: "And, I suspect she doesn't plan to leave any shells in the magazines, because she's firing, reloading, and firing again. And, despite all the action, nothing sloppy to this point. Plenty of good defense. Punches being blocked and slipped, but lots of leather getting through. Ten seconds left. One more sharp exchange and the bell. Another close one. Pink."
Tess: "And we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third underway and the terms not changing. Right back to the toe-to-toe stuff. Both girls digging even more body this time, hammering away with heavy leather downstairs, looking to bring down the guard and open up the heads. It's more of the up and down stuff this round, though, again, more down than up..."
Tess: "Got to admit, I'm surprised Pink is continuing to fight on these terms. She's very athletic and quick, as we know, does trapeze in her act, moves extremely well. We've seen Pink fight a lot of ways, and, clearly, this is Sam's game. Not sure why Pink is playing it..."
McCarthy: "Do I have to point out that she's not very bright and she has Weirdo and his crappy trainers in her corner?"
O'Dell: "Pink a SOLID right hand and SAM A RIGHT HAND COUNTER and Pink is buzzed! A pretty straight right from Cooke sends Pink back a step and now Sam's really emptying the magazines! The Mancunian beauty all over Pinkness, backing her up with volley after volley of leather, now trapping her against the ropes..."
Cassie: "Good stuff from Cooke. She needs to try to finish right now and she knows it."
O'Dell: "Sam throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Pink, winging away with both hands. Pink with the guard high, rolling with, moving the head, jabbing back in spots, she's taking the licking, but still ticking with twenty seconds left. Cooke pouring on the fire, but can't finish. Ten seconds, good right hand counter by Pink and Sam a NASTY combination to the head at the bell! Cooke's round wide!"
Tess: "And, Sam's back in the lead, 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth underway and Cooke immediately across the ring after Pink and SHE EATS A LEFT HOOK! Pink staggers Sam with a nasty left hook! Cooke wobbled, nearly going down. Pink now letting the hands go, battering the Brit. Sam in deep trouble here, as Pinkness getting off heavy stuff..."
Cassie: "No question about Cooke's ability to take a punch, because that left was absolutely brutal..."
O'Dell: "And she's taken several more hard shots since. Cooke backed up steadily and now against the ropes. She's clinching, tying up Pink's arms, but the Front Streeter banging free, stacking Sam back against the ropes and digging some serious body now. Cooke again tying up, but Pink so strong in there..."
Tess: "Cooke can't keep Pink pinned, but not from lack of trying."
O'Dell: "And Pinkness THUMPING that body now, she's working the ribs and midsection, pounding in hooks, looking to bring the guard down, lands a solid uppercut that shakes Sam. Cooke clinching again, but, again, Pink stacks her and racks her with a right hand to the chin! Sam hanging on in the final seconds, and there's the bell. Pink wide."
McCarthy: "But we're still even at 38 after four."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth begins with Pink on the hunt, much like Sam was last round. Pinkness bobbing forward, head tucked, snapping out that hard left jab, backing Sam up with solid right hands. Cooke giving ground and countering. Has some of the legs back, if not all. Looking to keyhole a right hand and turn the tide..."
Cassie: "And Pink well aware of that. That's why she's not all in here. Working carefully forward, consolidating and taking control."
O'Dell: "Pink working some body as she continues to force the Mancunian to retreat. Sam contesting canvas bitterly now, fighting for every inch and exacting a price for it. Pink willing to pay, because she's giving better than she's getting right now and THERE'S THE LEFT HOOK AND DOWN GOES COOKE!"
Tess: "This one may be over, Jenny!"
O'Dell: "Cooke drops face first at Pink's feet. Front Streeter quickly to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Sam not showing any signs of movement. Seven. Eight. This is going to be academic. Nine. TEN! It's over! One punch and it's over! And your winner by KO5 is 'The Queen of Front Street', Pink!"
Tess: "Let's check this replay, Mac..."
McCarthy: "NO!"
Cassie: "Fine, I'll do it. Watch Pink crouch and dig a right hook to the body. Now, watch the left hook as she comes up out of the crouch with all her weight behind it. BAM! Cooke's head snaps around and that's it. All power cut and that's all she wrote."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Pink, and, Pinkness, lot of slugging in there tonight."
Pink: "She's a strong girl. Likes to bang. And, you know, Pinkness isn't one to back down from a fight."
Tess: "What's next for you?"
Pink (shrugging): "You know the drill. I fight whomever management puts in front of me. And, if that girl happens to be wearing the straps, well. I'm cool with that, you know?"
