BEFORE: Mel B. has taken over the Lioness Club coaching duties following the departure of Gina Wild but she hasn't officially retired despite last stepping into the ring back in December 2014. The Barnet crowd wants the former Scary Spice to continue in the twilight of her BBU career and she's lined up a clash which rolls back a good decade when Atomic Kitten emerged as heirs apparent to Spice Girls girlsband throne. However the Kittens are struggling for boxing exposure these days, all members of the band in their mid 30s right now and poor Liz McClarnon was even axed by the Girls Friday after the recent roster shake-up in the Harry Keegan-owned stable.
Melanie Brown wears a black bikini set with white trim and red gloves. Black hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Liz McClarnon wears a red bikini set and white gloves. Long blonde hair tied in loose waves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1: Melanie fires away from the start and catches the blonde over the top with a nasty jabbing series that immediately reels Liz on her heels and forces her to cover up down the stretch. The younger singer was looking to dominate the footwork drill but her mentality is questioned by Kate Abdo as the Girls Friday axing surprised plenty of BBU experts and fans. However that's not on Mel's mind whatsoever as she keeps rattling McClarnon with a repeated jabbing drive that sends the blonde butt-in-ropes come the final minute and makes her moan at the bell when Brown gives her a fat lip for all the troubles as she scythes the high guard into shreds.
Round 2: Another convincing drive from the former Spice Girls dismantles the blonde's guard early in the second and allthough Liz tries to fight back with looping hooks she eats more leather on the swollen lips and crumbles into an earmuff surival while allowing Mel to pound into her guts thereafter. Brown gets vocal in her efforts to destroy McClarnon and when she finally pierces the desperate guard, she connects with the jaw with a couple of heavy uppercuts and sags Liz on jelly knees... a ruthless cross hook then finds the nose and half-spins the blonde into another uppercut on the jaw THAT SENDS THE MERSEYSIDE GIRL DOWN ON HER BACK moments later... Liz is shaken and stirred following that nasty knockdown and needs time to recover, she's up on her feet at eight but reverts into defensive circles from the moment the fight is resumed, the dominant footwork finally comes in handy to prevent the looming demise but Mel stalks her with more strikes for remainder of the round and ends the round scowling for blood as the Barnet audience chants her name almost as loud as they did with Emma Bunton in the card opener.
Round 3: Liz tries to hang back along the ropes and survive the looming barrage but alltthough Mel is clearly second best on her feet, she's fresh enough to catch the retreating blonde with a couple of hooks between the guard and slow the escape down. She then nails her over the top and steps in to clean out the breadbasket as McClarnon loses her footing and bends to the side getting her rack mauled over in the proccess. Mel jumps into close range and soon begins to punish the exposed jaw as the blonde's guard collapses in no time and sends her backing into the turnbuckle where the relentless Spice Girl pounding finally takes it's toll in the third minute and forces Liz TO TAKE A KNEE just to bide some neccessary time... the blonde's lips are badly swollen and a nasty gash has appeared under her left eye as well, the Merseyside singer looks utterly spend and overwhelmed already and she can only soak up more punishment up the middle as Brown looks to end the fight as quickly as possible.
Round 4: McClarnon has taken a lot of heat tonight and she walks into a flurry of leather early in thge fourth again; Mel's ruthless pounding swivels her head back & forth and when the Lioness Club veteran lands a cross hooking series on the nose, the blonde's eyes are shut on the spot and the poor Atomic Kitten singer slumps forward into a brutal uppercut on the jaw THAT SENDS HER CRASHING ONTO HER BACK and this time it's all over, Liz being knocked out cold by a totally superior opponent! KO4 Melanie Brown!!!
AFTER: Mel turns 41 in three months time but hasn't lost her punch at all. Since she only took a little over ten minutes to destroy the fellow singer tonight, her fitness and stamina hasn't been tested though and Kate Abdo thinks that's one area where Brown's future opponents will be looking to explore their chances.
Meanwhile Harry Keegan's decision to part ways with Liz McClarnon looks to be the correct one. The Merseyside girl looks as hittable and vulnerable as she was at the start of her career and taking steps back at the age of 34 is a recipe for losing your management on the spot no matter how many tickets your physical presence can sell. Kate Abdo also points to the fact the Girls Friday have moved their facilities up north to Tyne & Wear and not every Liverpool-based girl can call Newcastle her new home without being labelled as a "traitor" in the Merseyside backyard.
Final result: Melanie Brown def. Liz McClarnon KO4.
