BEFORE: The eleventh hour news of Maria Sharapova's meldonium abuse has rocked the WTA community before the Indian Wells Premier Mandatory scheduled kick-off however Camila Giorgi and Julia Goerges promise to erase the sour taste from everyone's mouth by literally tearing each other apart in the boxing ring proper. Both girls are well known for their ultra-aggressive - near suicidal - style of play and most fans and pundits gathered in southern California don't expect this fight to last the distance under any circumstances.

The 24 year old Italian has shown plenty of mean intentions in her two fights to date but was forced to accept defeat against both Ana Ivanovic and the high-flying Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber whereas her German opponent was outgunned in a classic war of attrition versus compatriot Sabine Lisicki. Giorgi is effectively an upgraded version of Lisicki so unless Goerges' punching resistance hasn't improved over the past three months, she's in for another bruising encounter according to the WTA insiders.

Julia Goerges wears a white bikini top with black trim, turquoise knickers and golden gloves. Dark brown hair tied in a braid. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.

Round 1:
Let the head hunting games begin! Giorgi gallops into a high jabbing frenzy and outworks the brunette in the opening close range tussle firing quick hooks straight into the lips and forcing Julia back down the stretch when the ammount of punches - and their precision - begins to take it's toll. Goerges tries to respond from the back foot but bounces off the guard and despite her best efforts, she has to yield real estate thereafter; Camila just digs her looping shots into the temples and makes Julia look lethargic at best... footwork was never the German's stong suit and when she struggles to direct her power, she's in all kinds of bother - just like vs Giorgi today... at least in the opener... more Italian wrath splits the gloves in the final minute and wobbles Julia dangerously close to the cornerpost but the lanky brunette escapes at the last moment and actually lands the final punch of the round - she smacks Camila on the nose with a cross hook but shakes her head in frustration moments later and nobody can blame her for doing that.

Round 2:
Giorgi looks to resume the high tempo attack but skims off the guard in the early tangle and allows the brunette to blast her on the mouth with a hooking counter before soaking up more leather on the rack. Julia shows her rival no sympathy whatsoever and hammers in from both hands to dump the blonde on the heels and make her wince a little while still trying to mount a proper comeback in the close range heat. However Goerges shows enough focus to stay on top of the younger opponent and wrenches her on the liver area to assume full control of action come the second minute... All Julia thereafter as she spikes the subdued blonde up the middle and nails her on the chin a couple of times while ducking more looping menace herself... a late flurry to the body enforces the Italian clinch but Camila still gets shoved butt-in-ropes in the dying seconds and slumps on the brunette's shoulder when the clock expires.

Round 3:
Julia looks to build some momentum with another feisty pounce BUT GETS CAUGHT over the top with a crunching right hook on the nose that almost takes away the legs from underneath her... she sags on jelly joints with her arms collapsed by the side and Camila jumps into a left/right combo that mauls the German's mouth AND SENDS HER CRASHING DOWN ON HER BUM moments later... Disaster for the buxom German as she did so well in the second round only to endure the blonde's wrath from the get-go in the next... Giorgi bunny hops around in the neutral corner while Goerges takes a seven count and there's just a storm of Italian leather crashing into Julia's face thereafter... Goerges fails to shake off the knockdown and doesn't have the speed nor agility to clinch the furious blonde... Camila rarely makes any noise while playing and she stays quiet in methodical destruction of Julia's confidence here as well... she pounds the aching brunette into her corner and shuts her eyes with a heavy drive that snaps the head back & forth leaving Goerges gasping for air at the bell and lucky to survive the onslaught.

Round 4:
Blonde on the move, she traps Goerges with another high jabbing approach and if the German needed to find a higher gear before, she's in dire straits for a good punch now. Camila thumps her up the middle and leaves her lips swollen but that's nowhere near good enough if you want to hurt the girl... a looping combo sends Julia into escape mode briefly however she trips over her own feet and lets Camila in for another brutal facial double... Ugh! Julia's braid spins around her neck and Giorgi floods with some heavy leather... she stacks the older woman in the corner and wrenches the liver area for a good measure leaving Goerges to clinch her in a futile attempt to bide some time... no more punches from the struggling German who crumbles under the Italian onslaught and is punched into stupor come the bell... nasty gash appears on the left cheek - a result of Camila's late flurry upstairs before a belting hook right at the bell makes Julia gurgle in pain and hug her aching breadbasket in visible demise... there's just nothing left in that tank and the Indian Wells crowd must be impressed by sheer display of power from the Italian hellcat.

Round 5:
Goerges wilts under another early barrage and when Giorgi cuts her up across the nasal ridge it's time for the fat lady to sing that tune... the German guard crumbles under pressure and leaves the blonde thumping the roughed up face into more shiners, one left hook too many wobbles Julia into a piercing uppercut with eyes closed... AND GIORGI DELIVERS THE KILLER PUNCH... she blasts the stirred foe on the chin and can fully enjoy the sight of Julia sliding down on her knees and  collapsing face-first at her feet moments later... No way back from this one.. KO5 Camila Giorgi!!!

AFTER: Camila is a joy to watch when she hits top gear, she once famously dismantled the very same meldonium menace Maria Sharapova right here in Indian Wells but often becomes too erratic and mistake-prone to keep her high level of play alive. However she simply overpowered Julia Goerges today and handed the balloon-chested brunette another painful defeat on her resume. The prospects of her crossing gloves with Sabine Lisicki remain the most desired hard-hitting contest in WTA right now.

On the other hand it's no longer 2011 for Goerges anymore who lacks punching resistance the most these days and is destined to lose in all the war of attrition scripts thrown at her. She never recovered from the knockdown in the third and was duly blasted out in supreme fashion by one of the hardest hitting women in WTA. While Angelique Kerber makes all the noise for German tennis lately, it'a almost a crying shame Julia has to swallow one bitter pill after another. Most experts believe she'll never find her competitive mojo again but there's just no way she changes her suicidal style of play that leads to her repeated demise these days. It's all or nothing for the German and right now she leaves another bout empty-handed...
