Before:
One of the many problems that people have with soccer players is the glib, media-managed interviews they give before or after matches. There's often nothing to be gleaned from them, a waste of time for interviewer, interviewee and the watching public. "Yeah, hopefully we'll just go out there and get some goals and not let in any goals and that's what the gaffer's told us to do. Can I go now? Is that it? Bye!"

The same can't be said about boxers before these big fights. Part of the drama and spectacle is when the gloves are well and truly off in the build-up. Most of it is irredeemable nonsense, but all the trash-talk, all the posturing, all the bluster - it all has meaning. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me? That's not quite the case in boxing. The fight begins before the bell begins; it's one half sales schtick, one half psychological warfare, and it is enthralling to watch the two girls try to get in each other's head. Words can hurt.

Part of what makes this fight so fascinating, why there are 86,000 people inside Wembley to watch Emily Atack and Kelly Hall go at it, is the genuine animosity that exists between these two. They really don't like each other and whatever happens, they're both going to be hurting in the morning. It's surely too personal to be anything else. There have been times when have gone too far. Emily Atack doesn't just dislike Kelly Hall, she dislikes her family. Hall’s sister has been texting Atack a lot. I suspect there were no kisses at the end of any of them. Meanwhile commentators felt that Emily Atack went too far when he said that Hall was a girl "whose boobs were about to be knocked off", a crass insult that crossed a line. They have, of course, met before, a pulsating bout that ended in a unanimous decision. Head and heart say Atack won't slip up twice against Hall after underestimating her last time.

Atack emerges from her dressing room in a set of bra and panties bearing a flower pattern. Her presence on the big screen drawing loud cheers from the Wembley crowd. There's plenty of menace in the air.

To the strains of Kasabian, here comes Kelly Hall, entering Wembley on a ... London bus. You've got to hand it to her for imagination. I'm not sure what number it is, though. She gets off the bus and flashes are going off everywhere in the crowd. What an atmosphere inside Wembley. Usually such a sanitised stadium, it's a cauldron of noise tonight. It hasn't been this loud since 1966. She takes off her short shorts and T-shirt to reveal a black set of bra and panties.

Atack is sporting red gloves, and Hall blue. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds.

Round 1: The talking is over. The punching begins. The pair of them watch each other dance around the ring, Hall dominating in the middle, and Atack looking for an opening. Shee throws a jab which doesn't connect. Hall is playing it safe. It's Atack who's looking to land the blows and she’s landed a couple of jabs. The referee spots a punch in the head from Atack. Hall gets revenge with one of her own, and then catches Atack with a jab. This is tense stuff, both girls feeling each other out, though Atack’s nose looks pretty red, as Hall connects with a venomous jab. They continue to dance round each other and as the bell goes, Hall was on the front foot. That was fairly even, though Atack was edging towards the ropes by the end.

Round 2: Hall is keeping her left arm quite low. It's a deliberate tactic, as if she’s trying to lure Atack in and then pounce. Her jab is firing. She tries a left hook. Atack blocks. Hall is keeping a good distance from Atack and then it heats up properly - the pair of them lock horns, each of them throwing more punches to the back of the head, and Atack then throws Hall to the floor as the referee moves in to break it up! Naughty. Atack gets a telling off before firing the first warning shot, introducing a huge right to Hall’s face and then smacking her with a shuddering left hook. The bell goes.

Round 3: Hall has a mark under her right eye after that right from Atack. The feeling is that it's one round apiece. The first minute is careful from both girls. Atack is perhaps thinking of the later rounds. The crowd boos. They're impatient already! They want punches. They came for punches. And Hall gives them punches, suddenly exploding into a coruscating combo that takes Atack by surprise. She’s not ready for the aggression. She’s struggling to deal with these little flurries from Hall, though he does hit back with a right - and then, as the seconds tick away, she finds her range with a right! Both fighters look cagey. This one could go all the way and be a marginal points victory either way.

Round 4: It's been very tactical. Almost ... like ... a chess match. Atack might want to think about upping the speed. Hall has a bit too much time to plan and sharp jabs are keeping Atack at bay. Atack swings a right, but it's not quite there. They trade jabs for a while. Atack lands a big right. Hall responds with a big left that found its way through. She does well to escape Hall's clutches. But not for long, as Hall getting in a couple of digs to the body. She’s got the edge at the moment.

Round 5: Atack is simply being kept too far away by that Hall jab. The centre of the ring is Hall territory. She might as well plant a flag there. But she does leave it to deliver a thumping right hook. Atack felt it and momentarily she’s wheezing and dizzy! Hall senses her moment and there's a burst of terrifying blows to the body. Atack does brilliantly to escape, and connects with a right, but Hall's power is too much again, more shots to the body finding their target and leaving their mark on Atack, who responds with a right. But Hall gets a left through right on the blow.

Round 6: So here we are at round six. It's been gripping fare so far. Atack catches Hall with an accurate right, but Hall isn't deterred by that and gets more punishing digs to the body in. Atack seems to have some swelling under her right eye. I don't think it's a cut. A jab breaches Atack's defence. Atack blocks a jab, then a body shot and ducks a right, but Hall is in control as the round comes to an end and increases the pain with another zesty jab to the face. Atack needs to change her plan here. She’s not really putting anything together.

Round 7: Television has Hall marginally ahead on points. Out of nowhere, Atack spots a gap and a left hook to the face has Hall all shook up. She staggers back, looking a little uncertain on her feet for the first time, but Atack can't quite build on it. Could it be crucial? It could be. Another swipe of the left crashes against Hall's ear. Hall attempts to fight back, but it's too ragged - and then Atack crunches through with a right. Hall, though, is a tough competitor and that left appears to have rocked her - she ends the round by charging straight into Atack, who glares. If looks could deliver left hooks. Hall is not as great a technician as Atack but is landing the better punches. Having said that, at the close Atack lands a great one and is growing into the fight.

Round 8: This is fascinatingly poised now. Atack starts the round with some fast jabs. Another left hook gives Hall more to think about. She’s becoming an easier target to hit. Is the tide turning? She looks a bit loose. Atack paws her away and then puts a left into Hall's stomach. Hall keeps trying to overwhelm Atack by pinning him to the ropes and going for the body, but Atack is slipping away. Atack is moving well and you can see she thinks the moment is with her. But she couldn't be more wrong! Just when it seemed that Atack was on top, Hall suddenly sees red and sets it up with a jab before a right hand screams through at extreme pace, straight into Atack's face, and Atack is down. Her legs give way and she collapses. There's no coming back from that. She tries to get up but the referee has had enough! Hall has won it! What a shot! Hall completely duped Atack. She disguised her intentions brilliantly with a dummy of a left feint which wasn't meant to do anything other than keep Atack's eyes off the monstrous right hook that was hurtling its way on to her chin. Atack fell instantly.

After:
Denise van Outen: “Congratulations Kelly Hall. What made that so stunning is that it looked like Emily was starting to dictate the fight. You were looking unsteady after being caught by a few big lefts - and then came that bolt from the blue.

KH: "I'm feeling elated. That is by far the biggest and best crowd I've ever fought in front of. Emily should also be very proud. It was neck and neck between us and if anything she was creeping ahead in that eighth round. It was a close fight. One punch can be all the difference. Unfortunately for Emily she was on the end of a right hand from a future champion.

DvO: "Emily, in the catfight between you two, Maria Ozawa, and Jessica Jane Clement, are you now out of contention as a challenger for the title for the foreseeable future?.

EA:”I feel like I let myself down in there. Congratulations to Kelly. We are not all going to win all our fights and I think that if I can put a run together, Jenna Louise Coleman will come looking for me.”

Result: Kelly Hall wins the fight with a eighth round knockout of Emily Atack.
