BEFORE:
"Well, it's been less than a year," says Lis with a gorgeous smile. "I must be getting to someone over at Bazz. I'm looking forward to getting back into the ring and showing that, while I may not be a full time fighter anymore, fighting AGAINST me is a full time job."
"Lis is as physical as anyone in the FCBA," says Leelee with a nod. "Lights. Welters. Anyone. She's strong, in terrific shape, and hits like a ton of bricks. This is going to be a good fight. I'm going to win it. But, there's not going to be anything easy about this."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that is Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyrie' you hear behind us, and that can only mean that blonde beauty Elisabeth Rohm is on her way down the aisle..."
Cassie: "ROHM-MY! ROHM-MY! ROHM-MY!"
O'Dell: "And, if you didn't already know, I'm sure you've guessed that Lis represents the Bazz Fight Club..."
Tess: "And, she fills a role there much like the one Neve, Jewel, Britney, Mariska, and Avril do at Front Street. Lis very involved in the operations side of things at Bazz, isn't she, Cassandra Lynn?"
Cassie: "Absolutely. Nothing much happens at Bazz without Rohmmy being involved. She might not be the smartest person at Bazz, but, she's the SECOND smartest..."
McCarthy: "That's like being the second smartest person in remedial kindergarten..."
Cassie: "Someone at THIS table had better smarten up. Unless she wants another demonstration of The Hotfoot..."
McCarthy: "These are BRAND NEW...you wouldn't DARE..."
Tess: "Mac? Who do you think you're dealing with?"
O'Dell: "IF we could concentrate on the ring, where Lis is being helped off with the robe to reveal that lovely sea foam green bikini and a body that puts just about any 20-year-old to shame. And, that's 'Uprising' by Muse you hear pounding through the arena, and here comes 'The Polish Princess', Leelee Sobieski!"
McCarthy: "FINALLY! One of Front Street's REAL fighters!"
O'Dell: "Leelee, as usual, tapping glove to fist with Mac on the way to the ring. Wasting no time getting inside and being helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. Wearing that black bikini she prefers. And, the ladies are about ready. Let's get our picks. Tess favors Leelee. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Rohm is no walk in the park. But, again, Sobieski's a REAL fighter, not a Dancing Hooker. Leelee."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "You KNOW I'm going with Rohmmy!"
O'Dell: "Split panel. Let's see who's right. Action begins with the jabs, and no one should be surprised by that. Both these blondes have excellent jabs, and, with the length and range they have, both like to use the long poke. Rohm showing a bit more movement at the moment, looking to angle up..."
McCarthy: "Sobieski wants to square, get that heavy left on target."
O'Dell: "And, she IS getting the Front Street jab on target some, though not as often as she'd like. Rohm a very good defensive fighter, and you're seeing some of that slickness right now. She's slipping and dipping, blocking punches, showing those angles, and then landing solid in the counter."
Cassie: "Rohmmy's forgotten more about boxing than most girls will ever know."
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch in the first. Good, two-way stuff. The blondes working mainly with the left hand. Rights mostly held in reserve right now as a bit of recon is taking place along with all the tactical stuff. Ten seconds to go. One final exchange, the best of the fight so far, and there's the bell. Close to Leelee."
Tess: "And, every point could count in this one. So, that could be a big one."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins with an adjustment from Rohm. Lis has changed level here a bit, showing a slight crouch, higher hands, circling to her right away from Sobieski's power. She's making Leelee work to square, picking off punches, landing sharp counters. Backed Sobieski up with that right hand..."
Cassie: "Might have even buzzed her a little. That was a nasty punch!"
O'Dell: "Rohm getting busier now, getting off with both hands. She's thrown Leelee to the defensive, has her on the back foot. Sobieski giving ground now, may well be hurt here. Lis sensing that, getting very aggressive, backing Leelee down and trapping her on the ropes. Sobieski still countering, but clearly getting the worst of this..."
Tess: "No question about it, Jenny. Rohm in total control right now."
O'Dell: "That she is. Rohmmy working some body, then coming back upstairs. She's getting everything working right now. Leelee IS scoring on the counter, but she's taking a beating, no doubt of that. Last twenty seconds ticking off the clock. Leelee tying up. Shoved off and NAILED with a hard right at the bell. Rohm. Wide."
McCarthy: "And it's 19-19 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Valkyrie back to work as we start the third. She's got the left jab working, looking to rout Leelee's forces again and quickly, but not going to happen. Spirited resistance from The Polish Princess, an we settle right back down to the tactical boxing at range that we saw in the first frame."
Tess: "Sobieski shook that off quickly and seems to have the legs back under her."
O'Dell: "That, she does. But, Rohm OK with that. Lis boxing well right now and having the better of things. She's got something with the change in hand and head position. It's allowing her to foul the sights, make it difficult for Leelee to get the left on and get her offense started, Leelee managing to do it some..."
Cassie: "But, not enough to offset what Lis is able to do."
O'Dell: "Rohm definitely able to put punches together better and she's gaining a points advantage as a result. Sobieski beginning to adjust here in the later going. She's getting the left hand home, throwing Rohm onto the defensive, making her cover up, and then getting the right hand home. But, it's too little, too late in this stanza. There's the bell. The late rally closed the gap, but, Rohm's round."
McCarthy: "29-28, Lis."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begin on the same terms on which the third ended. And, again, Leelee beginning to work this out. She's getting that heavy jab home, dropping in right hands, forcing Lis onto the defensive. Leelee not coming forward, however. Keeping that range. Not getting overly aggressive here..."
Cassie: "That's because she's already seen how dangerous Rohm can be."
O'Dell: "And there's another example. A solid counter from Rohm. And, Lis steps forward behind it, gets off a sharp flurry. Sobieski ties her up, referee breaks them, and we're back at long range, but, again, Rohm stepping in behind that left, working some body this time. Sobieski responds in kind and they tie up again..."
McCarthy: "Another adjustment from Rohm, now. First level, now distance."
O'Dell: "And, it's working just as well as the first one did. Rohm taking back control of the fight. She's getting more done, actually getting Leelee to back up to try and get the distance she wants. Lis too slick for that, though. Right forward again to those middle distances and another nice flurry. Ten seconds to go. Good right from Leelee at the bell, but, again, too little, too late. Rohm grabs another one."
Tess: "And, Lis has gone ahead 39-37 now."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Rohm again slipping forward as we being round five. Sobieski engaging her on these terms now, no longer backing up. But, Lis still having the better of things at middle distances. Rohm just so slick defensively that it becomes very difficult to put things together, to get into any kind of a rhythm offensively..."
Cassie: "This is why Rohmmy is so good. She's not just physical, she has skills."
O'Dell: "No doubt about that. Watch the head move, watch her slip and dip and you can see why it's difficult to get leather home...BUT SOBIESKI DOES! A short left hook from Leelee and Lis is ROCKED! Rohm stumbles backward and here comes Leelee! Sobieski looking to finish this thing..."
McCarthy: "And that's EXACTLY what she need to be doing!"
O'Dell: "Princess backing the Valkyrie up, trapping her against the ropes and going to work with both hands, but, still, the good defense from Rohm, moving the head, hands, and feet, making this very hard for Leelee. Sobieski getting plenty of work done, but she's going to run out of time. Five seconds left and there's the bell. Sobieski wide."
Tess: "But, Rohm still ahead 48-47."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Second half of the fight starts with Leelee advancing. She wants to follow up on that last round in a big way. Rohm retreating. Willing to give ground in exchange for the sharp counters she's landing as Leelee comes forward. Leelee getting that heavy left jab on, though, working to control Lis with it..."
Tess: "And, there are a lot of fighters she'd have already done that with, but, again, Lis very skilled defensively."
O'Dell: "Leelee determined, however. She's continuing the heavy pressure, willing to eat leather to consolidate her gains. She's committing on punches, backing Lis up with that heavy leather and DROPPING HER WITH A RIGHT HAND! Oh, that was a beautiful straight right and Rohm dropped to her back!"
Cassie: "GET UP, ROHMMY!"
O'Dell: "Sobieski quickly to a neutral corner. Not wasting any time here. Referee's count to three. Four. Five. Rohm rolling to her belly. Six. Seven. Lis pushes to hands and knees. Eight. Nine. She can't beat it! TEN! It's over! Rohm can't beat the count, and your winner by KO6 is 'The Polish Princess', Leelee Sobieski!"
McCarthy: "I TOLD you this girl is the real thing!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Leelee Sobieski, and, Leelee, this was a good fight, exactly as you predicted..."
Leelee: "Had to be. She's very, very good, Tess. And, as you saw, very physical. She's a test for anyone in any division in the FCBA. I passed it, but it wasn't easy."
Tess: "You two had a nice talk after the fight..."
Leelee: "I like her, I respect her. And I hope she feels the same. I just wanted to tell her that and thank her for the fight. This is another step back for me, and I appreciate her giving me this opportunity."
