Official Ice Hotel Title Eliminator: Sports Illustrated vs Victoria's Secret Kelly Rohrbach (1-0, 1 KO) vs Barbara Palvin (1-0, 1 KO) (FCBA Free Agent vs Alpha Boxing Club) Results: Lookout! Boxing / Story: Vassago
BEFORE: The battle for Model Supremacy continues here in Madison Square Garden tonight as Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Rookie of the Year Kelly Rohrbach travels from her Connecticut backyard to officially enter the modelling industry contender status. However that's exactly the same goal that Barbara Palvin of Victoria's Secret fame has targeted ever since signing with the Alpha Boxing Club so we have a real powerhouse dispute on our hands. The ultimate prize? Winner gets a shot at Gisele Bundchen - the current Ice Hotel Queen. It truly doesn't get any better than this for two promising upstarts who have scored important victories on their debuts; Palvin stopped Nina Agdal while Rohrbach knocked out Irina Shayk to book tonight's opportunity.
ESPN's Erin Andrews reminds the audience that Adriana Lima is set to resume the Body Saddle Sweepstakes next month after Rachel Nichols became the official title challenger by the virtue of her KO victory over Candice Swanepoel and rumours have it that either Rohrbach or Palvin can make an appearance on the highly-decorated card with Adriana pondering her options at this stage. Her quest to dethrone Brooklyn Decker from the lineal lightweight throne failed last weekend and she's never been a huge fan of Bundchen - the highest paid glamour model in the world - so the internal Brazilian feuding might yet change the original Ice Hotel script.
Kelly Rohrbach wears a white bikini set with light blue trim (pictured) and golden gloves. Long blonde hair in loose waves. Barbara Palvin wears a black lingerie set with violet trim (pictured) and white gloves. Long dark brown hair straight. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.
Round 1: Furious start from Rohrbach who tries to make the most out of the MSG crowd's support; she picks Palvin off in mid distance to send the Hungarian into defensive circles before catching her over the top and blasting a hook on the mouth that staggers the brunette and enables the American to deliver more accurate strikes from point-blank range. Barbara gets whipped on her heels but more worryingly, she fails to settle in the groove, possibly feeling a little nervous with so much at stake. On the other hand Kelly simply dwells on her prospects and lands plenty of leather to freeze the brunette out in the center of the ring but the crowd would like her to pound Barbara back to the ropes and work her over; something that escapes the blonde's execution in the opening round.
Round 2: ABC's manager Jennifer Connelly quickly reminds Barbara that she didn't make the New York trip to serve as Rohrbach's cannon fodder and the Hungarian finally arrives in the ring by belting the blonde against the ribcage before clipping her rack and shutting down in close range. Palvin seems the more agile of the two after a hurry up drill leaves the American slicing thin air and getting beat to the body repeatedly; she has to seek a mid range respite and sticks to swinging aerial assault from the back foot thereafter. However Palvin has that plan covered and dekes around the blonde's efforts before thumping her on the counter and scything across the mouth. Kelly's head swivels a couple of times in the final minute and the swimsuit bunny has to cover up against the odds when Palvin secures another superior close range jabbing series to pull back on the cards.
Round 3: Kelly's a free agent but Erin Andrews spots SI's original legend, Christie Brinkley, in her box and begins to wonder what the Hall Of Famer has to do with the blonde's rise to celebrity boxing. Back in the ring the American ignites more pace into her actions and manages to stay on top of a mid distance exchange; she clips Barbara's chin a couple of times before driving a hook on the boobs and reeling the brunette back on her heels. The subsequent head hunting assault enables Kelly to leave some early bruises on Barbara's face and even the allegedly superior agility doesn't prevent the SI leather rush that shuts down Palvin and staggers her behind a high earmuff to close out the round.
Round 4: This is a see-saw battle that can go all the way as Palvin ducks underneath a familiar aerial assault and crashes into Rohrbach's chest to throw the blonde off balance. Kelly really struggles to stretch her elbows in close range and her efforts to punish the Hungarian's midsection are outnumbered by a jug muggin' ordeal that has Palvin scowling in delight when she wobbles the American back to the ropes. That's the first time tonight one of the girls had to yield so much real estate and while Rohrbach becomes too focused on protecting her boobs, Barbara stings her on the liver area and delivers a massive harpoon that makes Kelly's legs buckle. Ugh! The blonde yelps in pain but fails to shut the follow up down and eats another ripping hook on target, she lowers her guard alltogether trying to withstand the Hungarian rally but Palvin jumps on the quick execution and BLASTS A HUGE UPPERCUT on the jaw to spin Rohrbach's head around AND SEND HER SLIDING DOWN ON HER KNEES moments later. The MSG didn't see this coming but Jennifer Connelly is over the moon and shakes her fist in delight; if anyone thought that Barbara didn't have enough strenght in her to outbox Rohrbach, well, that drive just proved otherwise. But even Erin Andrews can't understand why Kelly didn't simply clinch herself out of trouble? She takes the mandatory eight count and is fortunate the clock expires moments later, otherwise Palvin would be knocking more Hungarian leather straight into her face!
Round 5: The knockdown serves as a potential breakthrough and Kelly needs to adjust her plans quickly; she fails to match the brunette's movements and spends the opening minute of the fifth ducking & weaving around the ropes but doing very little on offense. This allows Palvin to build on the scorecards & the confidence level, she clips the blonde several times if only the single hand assault was enough to put this fight to bed. MSG jumps on some Hungarian love after all as the European VS model has the blonde stirred and very much shaken. "Let's face it, Kelly got spooked by that bomb on the jaw and I just hope Barbs won't get a little too cute here!", Erin Andrews indicates the comeback is still a possibility even when Rohrbach's frantic escape makes her trip over her own feet and land butt-in-ropes in the final minute with Palvin thumping her from point-blank range and delivering a ruthless body assault that leaves the SI model out of breath at the bell. Advantage Hungary; 48-46 at half-distance.
Round 6: Palvin thinks she's got the blonde mentally shattered by the knockdown and fails to add more pressure early in the sixth which proves a cardinal mistake as Kelly rips into a sudden jabbing rush and spikes the brunette's temples to wobble her forward into a piercing uppercut on the chin. The younger of the two models tries to swing back at her foe but skims off the top of Kelly's forehead and gets blasted on the solar plexus as the SI blonde finally channels some body assault and reels her opponent towards the ropes. Barbara scowls in anger and wants to immediately restore her advantage but she's beaten for a mid range hooking combo and Rohrbach;s got enough power left to cause visible damage; she splits the brunette's lower lip and bangs her on the eye which kills off any Hungarian charge on the spot. The final minute has Kelly swinging more meancing hooks upstairs and Barbara dancing around on her toes looking visibly upset over the American's revival.
Round 7: Jennifer Connelly doesn't look so gleeful anymore but the ABC camp has only themselves to blame as there was too much at stake to take Rohrbach's demise for granted. Not when Gisele Bundchen is ready to make the phone call... Still, these two fend off any fatigue issues and jump into another loaded leather rush - Kelly rolls back some rounds and staggers the VS model with supreme mid distance striking while Palvin's forced into more dangerous approach, she slides under the initial hook to crash into the blonde's body but then gets caught with a thumping shot on the jaw and has to get out there and fast... she loses her balance as she puts the weight too far forward though and her clinching attempt is blocked off by Kelly bumping her to the jug before a thunderclap hook from the right nails the brunette on the ear... Oi, Barbie!, MSG takes a collective breath as Palvin's knees buckle so Kelly can blast her on the exposed nose with another punch... AND DOWN SHE GOES!!! Palvin gets ragdolled flat on her back and spits out her gumshield as she took that hit with full force... Kelly screams out in delight but struts back to her corner quickly enough to prevent any delay... Palvin sits up at six and eventually beats the count at eight but looks a little groggy and still shakes her head trying to soak up the blast... she remains visibly affected even after the command and gets pummelled back to the ropes with Rohrbach slicing and dicing her way to add more lumps to the pretty Hungarian face... Barbara's guard collapses badly now and she's fortunate enough the clock expires just as Kelly drilled her with a nasty left hook on the jaw - two or three punches extra and the ref could have stepped in to call it a day!
Round 8: The supreme punch makes the difference after all as Barbara fails to shake off the knockdown despite Jennifer Connelly's best efforts during the interval. The brunette gets up only to find Rohrbach seeting down on her with more vicious leather and the high guard doesn't offer much protection anymore with Kelly doing what Barbara should have done in the fifth.... put the hammer down on a wounded opponent... the jabbing pursuit quickly meets it's targets since Palvin sways on her feet badly and only cuts thin air in a woeful response; Rohrbach shuts her eyes with a left/right combo on the temples before a piercing hook blasts her on the nose... Palvin goes all wobbly butt and when her hands collapse by the breasts, the blonde crashes into her face with one last hook that bursts the left brow ridge into instant swelling but more importantly SENDS THE BRUNETTE DOWN ON HER BACK with eyes closed... Barbara's left hand collapses against her chest but the VS model is motionless thereafter and Sports Illustrated secures victory honors plus the shot at Gisele Bundchen... KO8 Kelly Rohrbach!!!
AFTER: Disaster for Jennifer Connelly & her entourage. They had Barbara Palvin sitting on top of this fight at half-distance but let the American off the hook. Classic rookie mistake only for Erin Andrews to indicate that Rohrbach is basically a rookie herself: "She got too cute there instead of just blowing her brains out! That's one lesson for the future Barbs will have to learn if she wants to join the elite group".
The circumstances of Kelly's victory don't seem to bother the MSG crowd as well as the Connecticut-born model; she dodged a huge bullet tonight with plenty of support from her dark-haired opponent but at the end of the day it's the awaited call from Gisele Bundchen that matters the most. Erin has our winner in the center of the ring:
"That's right, I suspect Gisele must be watching this and thinking, now that's one girl that's done a super job lately! Yeah, that's me (laughs). I can't say Barbara upset me too much with that knockdown, she's a tough fighter, all these European girls fight with a chip on their shoulders so I knew this will be a huge task for me to take her down. But I am the supreme puncher and finally knocked her out like a boss! Or the NEW Ice Hotel Champ? (...) Adriana Lima? Well, I've heard these rumours, unfortunately I'm a free agent so my manager can't work out the deals for me because I don't have one... But let me say this, Erin... the Model Supremacy quest is very much alive... I know Brooklyn Decker thinks she owns the place and isn't interested in Kate Upton-type opponents nor in Kate Upton herself. But I am interested in spoiling all the odds.... Decker is the LW champion, Upton the JMDD champion, Lima the Body Saddle champion and Bundchen the Ice Hotel champion. And they all prefer to sit on their laurels... well, I will take them down one after another.. sooner or later... just have to make it official..."
Final result: Kelly Rohrbach def. Barbara Palvin KO8.
