BEFORE:
"I know why I'm here," says Sammi with smoldering eyes. "I'm here so that Graham can get a win...because we all know she needs one. Well, they may have brought me here to get Graham back on track, but, tonight, I plan to derail her completely."
"I'm tired of talking," says a hard-eyed Graham. "I'm DONE talking. And, I'm fresh out of bubble gum."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Finally A Teen' you hear behind us, and here comes the singer of that tune, Sammi Hanratty..."
McCarthy: "Who, by the way, is NO LONGER a teen, she's 20! Oh, and this song is AWFUL, just like almost all the other ones we hear around here!"
Tess: "Who made YOU music critic?"
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, WALMART!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, while the lovely Ms. Hanratty climbs into the ring and is helped off with the robe to reveal a teal and white number and a body that shows she's been working very hard to get in shape for this one..."
Cassie: "No question about it, Jenny. And there's also no question about what Sammi's trying to do tonight. She's had two FCBA fights up to this point, having lost to Ghadie and Campbell, and she's trying to show that she's better than she looked in those fights."
Tess: "And, if she can pull off the upset tonight, that's exactly what she'll do."
O'Dell: "And that's 'Wanna Say' you hear booming through the arena, and that can only mean that the singer of THAT song, 'The Liberian Lynx', Kat Graham, is on her way to ringside..."
Cassie: "And speaking of 'no question', there's no question what's at stake for Graham tonight. Management at Front Street has made it clear that this is a big year for her, and she started it with a disappointing loss, albeit to a very good fighter, Cheryl Cole..."
Tess: "Sammi said it herself, pre-fight. Graham needs to get back on track tonight...in a big way."
O'Dell: "Graham into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that yellow bikini she prefers and that the crowd, as usual, appreciates. And, we're about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess favors Kat. Mac?"
McCarthy: "How many times do I have to say it? Typical Dancing Hooker opponent. NO FCBA wins. Graham is bad enough to find a way to lose, but I don't think she will."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And, we're underway. Kat all motion right now as you'd expect. Graham circling, jabbing, pivoting, showing all that athleticism we've come to expect from her. Hanratty showing discipline. No wild charges like the last time against Campbell. She's working the feet, moving the head and hands, looking to cut the ring..."
McCarthy: "Give the kid credit for not getting too aggressive here. That's the kind of thing young fighters do, and it would play right into Kat's hands."
O'Dell: "Would, indeed, and I wonder if that's what Graham expected to see, because she's definitely playing a sort of defensive game right now. She's here, there, everywhere, just popping jabs and not giving Hanratty anything to hit. Almost trying to bait her into doing something overly aggressive."
Tess: "Hanratty not biting, though. She's staying sound, working the feet, stalking."
O'Dell: "Indeed, she is. Graham, meanwhile, quite happy to dance this round away. She's not forcing action, kind of getting the lay of the land here as she jabs and circles. These pivots are something to see. They're like Bat-Turns. She's going one way, then she's going the other. Five seconds left and there's the bell. Close to Kat."
Cassie: "And Graham with the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins the way the first ended. Kat in motion. It's a wide circle behind a snapping left hand. Hanratty working forward, moving the head, keeping the guard high, wants to cut the ring and bring Graham to battle. Good tactical stuff on both sides so far in this one. Neither fighter doing a ton, but both getting stuff done."
Cassie: "Hanratty turning the heat up just a little, Jenny. Realizing she has to be a bit more aggressive if she wants to slow Kat down."
O'Dell: "Indeed, she is, and she's managing to cut the ring at times, get some exchanges going. They're even and short as Graham's not sticking around for anything else. She likes to fight on the move, and she's continuing to do that here in the second round. Hanratty, though, has to be gaining some confidence."
McCarthy: "Exactly. This is why this is a stupid strategy for Graham. No surprise, because Graham's no rocket scientist and neither are the two brainless wonders in her corner. You want to get out and get after this kid, not let her settle in."
O'Dell: "Sammi IS, however, settling in. She's working hard and smart. Cutting the ring again there, working a little body on Graham. That has to be in the game plan, no doubt. Work the body to get into the legs. Kat again keeping the exchanges short, getting back to open canvas where she's going to jab and circle the final seconds away. Another close one. Sammi this time."
Tess: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Right back on familiar terms. Graham moving, Hanratty stalking. Kat showing very little interest in exchanging. Want to snap that jab and use those legs. Sammi the one forcing the action here, though, again, in a sound way. She's keeping the guard up, working forward instead of walking forward."
Cassie: "She's definitely got a solid plan here, and she's sticking to it."
O'Dell: "No doubt about it. Graham, on the other hand, continuing to bounce and pot-shot and SHE ROCKS HANRATTY! Oh, where did that right hand come from? That glove was somewhere around her WAIST when that punch started and she's got the younger fighter stepping in fence post holes!"
Tess: "Like a gunslinger, she pulled that thing out of a holster!"
O'Dell: "And Graham flat-footed for the first time. She's winging away at Sammi, barrages of lighting-quick punches. Hanratty covering up, wobbling under the volume of stuff that's getting through the high guard. Referee looking in, but time's going to run out in the third. There's the bell. Wide to Graham, but Sammi still standing."
McCarthy: "And still leading 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "No attempt to consolidate or clean up from Graham to start the third. She's back circling and dancing. Hanratty's legs still a little balky, so she's not as swift in the pursuit, allowing Graham to bounce and circle all she wants to, and Graham wants to do a lot of it. She's holding the right in reserve, jabbing with the left..."
McCarthy: "If I were in her corner, I'd break my foot off in a part of her anatomy! You had this kid HURT. Try to finish instead of playing Ginger Evans!"
Tess: "Ginger..."
Cassie: "It's the first fight. Do we really want to do this?"
Tess: "Good point."
O'Dell: "Graham circling wider and wider as we go. Hanratty starting to get the legs back. Moving better as we near the one minute mark. Beginning to cut the ring again and DOWN GOES SAMMI! Another lightning shot from the hip from Kat and Sammi dropped like a rock to her back..."
Cassie (singing): "Turn out the liiiigggghhhts. The party's oooovvveerrrrrr..."
O'Dell: "Graham raises glove to mouth and blows it off, then does an Ali shuffle. Doesn't turn to the neutral corner until the referee TURNS her. Wasted a good five or six seconds there..."
Cassie: "Not going to matter."
O'Dell: "Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Hanratty still flat on her back and unmoving. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's over! And your winner by KO4 in quick draw fashion is 'The Liberian Lynx', Kat Graham!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Kat Graham, and, Kat..."
Kat: "I said before the fight that I was DONE talking, and I am. I'm going to let these FISTS do the talking from now on."
Tess: "What's next for you?"
Kat: "Again, I'm fresh out of bubble gum."
