Before: When asked about leading off again, Adelaide Kane seems to be feeling pressure from her management: "I really don't care about going first or not. What I care about is winning. I didn't have a win in 2015 and I just cannot allow that to happen this year. I don't know much about Hayley Orratia--I just know she is someone I MUST defeat. She can afford a loss since she beat Christina Ricci, but I cannot. Foxfire has been very patient with me, but even I know they can't afford to keep a winless fighter on their roster indefinitely. So I am highly motivated for this fight and that's something Hayley cannot prepare for in advance."
Hayley champing at the bit - can't wait to get dukes on Addy's lissome chassis. "I'm going to be pressing her like she's never been pressed before, and all she's looking behind her? Whatever: I'm just here to bury Adelaide, not get her head on straight for her."
Adelaide in basic black bikini with ring connections matching black gloves and boots, hair in a battle braid. Hayley in a dark purple bandeau, white gloves, hair in a battle ponytail.
R1: Hayley pawing her jab, stepping inside and engaging with side-to-side wallop from either hand, Adelaide responding in kind, girls trading wide, slugging rights and lefts in horizontal plane early. Addy's legs gradually giving her the initiative, hopping to her right; fitting the left jab to Orrantia's hairline; walk her into the odd hot-crossing right that pre-empts receipts. Second half of the round mostly Adelaide getting off with straight, peppering combos - fists bouncing off Hayley's guard/head/shoulders then she pivots counter-clockwise to safety. At the bell, Kane sends a message - leaning in with a slap-chopping right across Orrantia's breasts, spanking a blurt of hurt from the surprised rookie.
R2: Hayley stalking with gloves up around her cheeks, bobbing on approach, but Addy's got all the answers. Leggy little brunette tidying up left/right/left, punching head-and-shoulders on Orrantia while sidestepping counter-clockwise. Hayley bobbing and blocking much of this, but it's good stiff bursts of punches in bunches, keeping her contained. Adelaide mixing in the stiff left jab to measure; leaning in to smite some more hot-crossing right hands against Orrantia's outraged jugs. Classy, nimble, up-tempo shutout for Kane doesn't hurt Hayley, but has her storming back to corner humiliated and grumpy through 2
R3: Hayley stomping forward, eating Adelaide's lead left, willing to accept that poke in order to get in range for side-to-side slugging. Kane bashed upside her head by wide haymakers, Orrantia’s able to bang her backward, winning fierce exchanges. Touch of ropes firms her, working with Hayden and Fishel gives a fighter a thorough understanding of what to do in close, Addy digs a rising right to pit of Hayley's belly, then hooks her mouth. Orrantia rocked, but stubborn, pummels her foe with both arms. Second half of the round, girls tighten up stroke, becoming more compact/professional. Heads-and-gloves scrub and bump in close - girls using their hands to paw at each other, pulling the defenses down, then clubbing in short shots to head and body. Good bruising trade - Adelaide holding her own, but Hayley maintaining top position on the apron gets the better touches.
R4: Hayley bobbing, but not reading Adelaide’s punching routine, Kane poking out a Minka-style straight right to pound at Orrantia's face early. That sets up clipping left hooks that toggle Hayley's chin. She's wobbly butt a minute in as Addy keeps putting her punches together. Second minute, Hayley firms, holding her ground as she lowers her shoulders and slugs rising lefts and rights to Adelaide's ribs: grunting brunette forced to give ground and regroup. Down the stretch, Kane's straight punches out of a well-anchored stance reject several head-on rushes by Orrantia, catching face-spank on the way in, stalling in no-woman's land, then getting clubbed about her jugs and flank as Addy puts on a combination-punching clinic.
R5: Hayley's had enough - she gets a rolling Mish-Williams start out of her corner just in advance of bell; tackles Addy into ropes, turning the boxing match sloppy. Kane grunting, writhing beneath her tormentress - job of work for Addy to shunt Hayley's weight aside so she can squirt out to her right. Orrantia having none of it - reaching 'round her prey’s hips to illegally grab ropes; putting a shoulder into Kane's tummy while yanking those knees forward, sitting Adelaide into ropes; palming her face back over ropes, getting her twisted side-on to cables, exposing her back to clout. Wriggling, jiggling fare yields the biggest breakthrough of the night, Kane squirming and being frustrated by Orrantia's bullying tactics.
R6: Hayley quickly across the ring, swinging lusty, spooking Adelaide back onto ropes. Kane licking an answering hook with a chopping right hand; answering Orrantia’s right with a short left uppercut. Crowd roaring as Hayley takes a terrible face-pasting, but roaring just as loud when she digs back: short, ripping punches dipped-and-dug to ribs; swatting hooks, chopping right hand busting Addy’s beautiful face up. Back and forth in vicious twos and threes—the girls rooted in their stances, bobbing and weaving on the spot. Orrantia’s right chops Kane to chin; left uppercut rips to the same spot and THERE GO ADDY’S LEGS! Kane spilling to knees and elbows, panting in surprise and punishment, hauls herself back up the ropes. Orrantia out of the corner, extending the left, pawing it, then leaning in close to clean up a short, pulverizing right hand—all her back, glutes and lats in behind the blast, swiveling Adelaide’s head around. Kane’s eyes dim, mouth slackens—she lolls against ropes, hands dropping to her stomach; SHE’S FACING HELPLESS INTO PUNISHMENT! Hayley squares away—lithe body rigid, glutes ringing as she POURS home the leather. Adelaide limp, seated in the ropes; ref jumps in as she’s no longer defending herself. TKO6 in a breathtaking debut for Hayley Orrantia!
After: Hayley has the spotlight, and Oh how she shines! Chattering classes shaking their heads, it’s way too early. No way has O&E found another one this dominant out of the gate. She’s stepping out of the flyweight crab bucket, but can she stand the pressure of being in the shadow of Holt and Shahi?
