BEFORE:
"I am SO happy to be back in the ring," says Adrianne with a gorgeous smile. "I was all ready for a fight with Anna and I hurt that shoulder and the rehab...we had to take it so slow. But, I'm 100 percent now and I can't wait to get my career rolling again."
"I couldn't be happier that she's healthy and ready to go," says Anna with a nod. "I've been waiting for this fight for a long time. She's one of the best in the business. I'm one of the best in the business. I'm looking forward to testing myself against her."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that is..."
McCarthy: "'Life On Mars', by David Bowie. Adrianne happens to be a HUGE Bowie fan, and that's why she uses this song as her intro music."
Tess: "As Adrianne pointed out, she hasn't been in the ring in some time, almost 18 months. She was training for the Torv fight last year when she hurt her shoulder, and she's been working her way back ever since..."
McCarthy: "Palicki's the best lightweight in the world, and Sceej Boxing was not going to take any chances with her. We weren't going to rush her back. She was cleared to fight several months ago, but we wanted to get her in top shape and knock off all the rust before putting her in with someone like Torv."
O'Dell: "Adrianne into the ring and helped off with the robe by the Sceej corner crew. And, she's looking pretty darn good in that bikini..."
McCarthy: "The official color is chartreuse."
Cassie: "There's an OFFICIAL color?"
McCarthy: "Yes. That bikini was made especially for Adrianne. It's one of a kind. And it is chartreuse."
Cassie: "We might have to have Sceej fighters here more often. Mac's said TWO intelligent things in the last two minutes...and that usually takes about two MONTHS..."
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, SCABBO!"
Tess: "Well, I wouldn't be surprised if Wiz DOES book Sceej more often, considering Sceej Boxing has never won a fight at the Asylum. In fact, women fighting under the Sceej banner are 0-3 at this facility..."
Cassie: "Wait. Isn't MAC 0-3 at Asylum?"
Tess: "As a matter of fact..."
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, WALMARTTTTTTTTTTTTT! And, I was ROBBED!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Oh, thank goodness that's 'The Pain and the Passion' you hear behind us, and, while you listen to it and watch as 'The Aussie Enforcer', Anna Torv makes her way to the ring, drink up, boys. Torv wasting no time getting down here and NOT dispensing with the normal tap of glove to fist with Mac on the way by the table..."
McCarthy: "That's because Torv's a class act and one of only two REAL fighters in Weirdo's stable. She's not going to win tonight, but, that's only because she's in against the best lightweight in the world."
O'Dell: "Anna into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve..."
Cassie: "And, the official color of THAT bikini is BLACK..."
McCarthy: "Shut UP, SCABBO!"
Tess: "Truck, call Elias Sports and see if three 'Shut Ups' is a record for one fight..."
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, WALMARRRRRTTTTT!"
Cassie: "Or, four..."
O'Dell (sighing): "Drink up quickly, boys, because, we're about ready to go, so it's time for some picks. Tess favors Palicki and Mac's gone on record with that same opinion. Cassie?"
Cassie: "Sorry, BFF, but I'm going with Torv."
O'Dell: "We have a split panel. Let's see who's right. Palicki quickly to that long left jab as we get started. Torv a tall, long fighter, so she usually doesn't give up a lot of reach, but she is tonight. Adrianne nearly six feet tall and very rangy and she's using that length right now to work the left, drop the right..."
Tess: "Anna's going to have to adjust to this, no question. She's trying to angle right now and get to spots, but not having a lot of success."
O'Dell: "No rust showing on Palicki, that's for sure..."
McCarthy: "That's because she's been fighting controlled mini-fights in the gym for the past several months. We knocked that rust off her before we sent her back into the ring."
O'Dell: "Looks like you did a pretty good job of it, because Adrianne's moving well, jabbing well, putting punches together well as we roll toward the end of the first round. Torv getting more comfortable as the round goes on, but Adrianne's been in control from the opening seconds and she remains that way to the bell. Solid first for Palicki."
Cassie: "I'm impressed at how good she looked this early in the fight. 10-9, Adrianne after one."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Palicki right back to work in round two. She's getting that long left jab off and working everything else off that. Adrianne looking VERY good in there, gang. It's like this girl last fought six weeks ago, not 18 months ago. Everything working like the well-oiled machine Palicki is when she's at her best..."
McCarthy: "We knew we had to have her in top form for Torv. Wouldn't have sent her out here if she weren't."
O'Dell: "I've got to say, I was surprised you didn't have her fight a tune up first, but, it's clear she didn't need one. Adrianne moving very well, punching very well. She's setting up her right hands with that long left, putting punches together, getting off in combination. These are all things we've seen her do before, but, frankly, never better than she's doing them right now..."
Tess: "Torv, meanwhile, still fighting against all that reach and it's been a losing battle so far. She's not able to get to the spots she wants."
O'Dell: "And, as a result, she's being out-boxed and out-hit. Coming down the stretch here in the second, and, frankly, this couldn't be going much better for Adrianne Palicki. She's getting what she wants in there and denying Torv what SHE wants. Five seconds to go, and there's the bell. Palicki again in the second."
Cassie: "20-18, Adrianne."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third sees a change in tactics from Torv. Anna in a high guard now, looking to work past the jab, bobbing the head, moving the feet, actually wants to close to middle distances here, rather than angle. She's getting there and getting off. Palicki using a back step to try to get back to range..."
McCarthy: "Not a lot of girls who can out-box Anna Torv at long range, but Palicki's done it, and she's forcing Torv to adjust."
O'Dell: "That, she is, but Torv IS adjusting, and doing it well. She's getting into range and landing with both hands. Palicki continuing to back up to try to get back to her terms, but Torv just continuing to close and make life a bit more difficult for Adrianne. Anna hooking some body in there as well, getting into the ribs with some right hands off that hard, straight left."
Cassie: "I've been talking about how good Palicki's looked so far tonight, well, Torv's looking pretty good right now. This is excellent stuff from Anna."
O'Dell: "No doubt about it. Not easy to get Palicki on her heels, but Torv has her there for the moment, and she's taking full advantage. Anna's claimed the momentum and is in control after two rounds in which the same was true of Adrianne. Ten seconds to go in the third. Palicki retreating again. Torv working in, banging body. And, there's the bell. Torv claims the third."
Tess: "And, cuts Adrianne's lead in half. 29-28 after three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Torv continuing to back Palicki up as we start the fourth. And, that term not quite accurate. She's not FORCING Adrianne back as much as making Adrianne retreat in an effort to keep that range Palicki wants. Either way, it's working in Torv's favor. She's got her rival on her back foot and she's taken control of the fight."
McCarthy: "Palicki just needs to set the feet and bang back here. She needs to bring power to bear."
O'Dell: "Could be, but that's not how things are going at the moment. Anna continuing to call the match and DOWN SHE GOES!"
McCarthy: "THERE IT IS! CHECKED THE CHIN!"
O'Dell: "A beautiful right hand from Adrianne and Torv blown right to her back. Palicki to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Anna rolls to hands and knees. Seven. Eight. Nine. On her feet! Torv beats it, but not by much. Referee looking in very closely as he gives the Aussie the mandatory...and he's going to waive Palicki forward."
Cassie: "This is going to be UGLY..."
O'Dell: "No doubt about that. Adrianne all in now, banging away with both hands, backing Anna up, trapping her on the ropes, giving her a good working over. Palicki looking for the 'off' switch, wants to put a stop to this thing right now. Torv hanging on, rolling with, jabbing back some, running clock. Ten seconds to go in the round. Good right hand, Palicki and there's the bell! Big round for Adrianne!"
Tess: "39-36 now. And, Torv has to be feeling fortunate to still be in the fight."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Palicki stalking now. She's coming forward behind that long left poke. Anna giving ground slowly. Keeping the guard high, looking to counter. Aussie can't be sure of the legs at the moment, so she's fighting a strategic retreat. The American taking no chances. Knows how dangerous Anna can be..."
McCarthy: "This is smart stuff from Palicki. You just saw how she can turn a fight with one punch, but she's also a good boxer and a very intelligent fighter. She wants to consolidate here. Look for a big one to finish. But, she doesn't want to force anything."
O'Dell: "And, she's executing that game plan pretty well, Mac. She's keeping Anna going backward, not allowing her to really get her feet set or stabilize. Just keeping a steady, forward pressure on while Torv gives canvas in small chunks. Anna a good right hand counter there, but Palicki answers with a sharp one-two..."
Tess: "Torv doing a good job of fighting defensively in this round. No question she's still feeling the effects of the last round, but she's not getting run out of here."
O'Dell: "She is not. She IS, however, continuing to get backed up. Adrianne has one gear right now, and it's forward. Slow. Steady. Effective. Final twenty seconds of the fifth round. SHARP right hand from Torv. Palicki answers with a flurry. Anna blocked and slipped most of it. There's the bell. Palicki."
Cassie: "And, she's now up 49-45 at the half. Big mountain to climb against a champion like Adrianne."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Sixth begins with Torv firming up her front now. Adrianne no longer coming forward in response. Instead, she's working the left at range, and that suits her just fine. Torv getting that guard up again, bobbing and weaving, slipping to middle distances to get off. Going back to hooking some body..."
McCarthy: "No point in wasting a lot of time there. You can invest in Palicki's body all night and it's not going to do you any good."
O'Dell: "Anna working both upstairs and down, putting punches together well. So is the American. This is good stuff from both fighters, good, two-way boxing with both fighters able to score well when they're getting the terms they want. Adrianne again giving a little ground here to keep the range..."
Cassie: "Doing a bit more circling now, though, back and right instead of back steps, and that keeps her from spending as much time on the back foot. Also keeps her off square."
O'Dell: "Definitely making Anna work harder. But, Torv willing to put in the effort. Not at all shy after that big punch. Still coming after Palicki. And Adrianne answering strongly. This is the kind of stuff you expect when you have two of the best lights in the world in action. Final seconds ticking off and there's the bell. Close. To Torv."
Tess: "58-55 on our cards. Four to go. Torv still has work to do."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Same terms to start the seventh. Torv looking to get to mid-range, Palicki using the back and circle to keep Anna on the end of her gloves. The Aussie having some success getting where she wants to go, and scoring when she does, but Palicki doing an excellent job of maintaining distance this round."
Cassie: "People talk about Adrianne's length and power and boxing ability. But, she's a great athlete. Great feet. Moves extremely well, especially for a girl her size."
O'Dell: "And, you're seeing that now. Very smooth. Very quick. Torv again stepping in and landing a one-two, head, then hook to the body. Palicki with that back step and circle right. Torv bobbing forward and HURTS ADRIANNE WITH A RIGHT HAND! Palicki wobbled and DOWN SHE GOES! Torv a BLISTERING combination and Palicki is down!"
McCarthy: "She'll get up. She'll get up."
O'Dell: "Adrianne POUNDING the canvas as the count reaches three. Four. Five. She's definitely got her wits about her and is a little frustrated that she got caught. Seven. Eight. Palicki to her feet. Referee going to give her the mandatory and waive Torv on. Anna coming forward behind the left. The American straight back, goes to the ropes, leans back in a high guard. Anna getting off with both hands, but just about out of time. There's the bell. Looked to be Adrianne's round until that knockdown."
Tess: "But, now Torv's back in the fight. 66-65 Palicki with three to go."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "Eighth round begins with Anna in forward aspect. She's been told she's behind and needs to take the fight to her rival, and that's exactly what she's trying to do. Palicki sticking out that long left, slowing Torv down. Adrianne giving ground, but slowly. Again working for distance and to bog down the Aussie offensive."
Tess: "More smart stuff from Palicki. Doesn't have her legs all the way back, but she's got enough to move and stay off square."
O'Dell: "Torv turning up the heat. She's not exactly boring forward here, but she's definitely COMING forward and with bad intentions. Palicki a GOOD right hand counter and that slowed Anna down. Adrianne holding ground now, big flurry. Anna firing back. BLIZZARD of punches going back and forth and DOWN GOES PALICKI!"
Cassie: "It was that right hand! Caught her flush!"
McCarthy: "Get UP! Get UP! Don't you lay there! YOU GET UP!"
O'Dell: "Torv to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Palicki on her back, head lolling from side to side..."
McCarthy: "GET UP, DAMN YOU! DON'T YOU PUNK! GET UPPPPP!"
O'Dell: "Seven. Eight. Palicki to her right elbow and hip. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! And your winner by KO8 is 'The Aussie Enforcer', Anna Torv!"
Cassie: "Palicki did very well to get off her back at all. That was that welter power Uncle Wiz talks about. I don't think ANYone was getting up from that one."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I've got our winner, Anna Torv, and, Anna, that was a heck of a fight."
Anna: "Had to be. She's the real deal. No question about that. You get in the ring with her, you'd better have the A+ game, and you'd better be ready to dig deep. Otherwise, you aren't going to like how things turn out."
Tess: "Huge win for you, obviously..."
Anna: "No question about it. She's as good as it gets. But, as I keep telling people, so am I, Tess. So am I."
