Intro:
White Hart Lane is the battleground for our main event which sees two
of the lovely local London girls do battle.
Emily Blunt has just been signed to the Aegis international stable
after being part of Rampant fighting stable these past few years.
So she wants to make a good start for her new stable in her home
country before fighting around the world.
While Rebecca Hall is a member of the Lookout! Atlantic stable which
has seen her take a back seat to the lightweight champion Doutzen
Kroes but she's said to be happy to spar with the champ and improve
her own skills.
At the press conference, both women hugged each other and had warm
smiles as they quickly exchanged pleasantries before talking to the
media.
Emily was up first and seemed to be in a happy place in her life as she spoke.
"Hi guys, it's beautiful outside, too bad me and Rebecca couldn't box
in a park but White Hart Lane will be beautiful too."
After being asked how this fight came about Emily replied "because I
don't know when I'll be boxing in the BBU again, this isn't a goodbye
bout, I love this country but with my new stable travelling the world,
I wanted people to see me in a super fight in my eyes."
Turning and smiling at Rebecca she adds "me and Rebecca have grown up
in acting together around London, we've become friends but we're
rivals as well as acting and boxing are both cut throat so I wanted to
have some fun and test myself against a woman I adore and respect so
much"
Emily fights back a tear as Rebecca claps her friend as they swap
places at the podium.
"Like Emily said, I love being her friend but before people think
it'll be ten rounds of hugs and us two asking each other how our day
was, we're both competitive women"
Waving Emily to stand next to her, they put an arm around each others
waist as Rebecca continues.
"Look at us, I mean we could pass as sisters, it means when people
cast a beautiful leggy brunette, we have to compete against each other
which gets us both on edge, so don't worry, this will be a fight"
Both turn at the same time and say together "let the best woman win"
they both laugh at that moment and respectfully shake hands.
Fighting time, Emily out first in a blue sports bra and shorts combo,
her bra has an Aegis logo on to advertise her new stable, she
completes the look with matching gloves and shoes.
Rebecca is out next in a silver sports bra and shorts, she waves to
Emily with her silver gloves and finishes her look with silver shoes
and white socks that stick out the top.
The two women look to the sell out crowd who are standing cheering
both local lasses on.
Both women compose themselves as they walk up to each other with a
small smile instead of the warm ones they had at the press conference.
The two respectfully touch gloves and hold them together as they nod
to each other before returning to their corners for ten rounds of
lightweight action.
Round 1:
Both women slowly come together and the action is slow paced as the
feeling out process begins with simple jabs and fients to test the
others guard and reflexes.
Kate Abdo comments "rumours are that while they're great friends and
have been for years, they've never sparred a round together so this is
the first ever time they've had to punch each other in anger."
Rebecca is winning the early pitch battle as her extra two inched of
height are doing enough to win this round up to now.
It doesn't really get out of first gear as both seem nervous in this
environment and against a friend isn't helping matters as both women
try to steel themselves.
The bell rings to end the round and both women bounce back to their corners.
Round 2:
Emily is the one who takes the fight up a gear as she starts using
head movement to dodge Halls jabs then sneak inside the range to land
a jab/straight combo to Rebecca's head.
Rebecca dances backwards and Blunt tries to rush in to do more damage
but eats the hardest jab she's taken yet and now both women know they
want to be serious now, no probing punches.
The taller brunette is showing how light on her toes she can be as she
fires out the jab in a routine most likely learned from stablemate
Kroes as she fires three piston like jabs one after the other at
Emily's head.
She can only block one punch as the rest eat there way through her
gloves to her face.
Blunt is trying to use her own skills to try and weave her way into
the body of Rebecca where she evidentially thinks she can hurt her the
most.
Instead she has a look of frustration as the bell rings and she didn't
use her early aggression to her advantage.
Round 3:
Again Rebecca is happy to use that jab as her primary weapon at this
stage, no point swapping styles when this is working.
Emily is again not able to cut the ring down to get her own punches
working and it's really starting to bug her as she deflects most blows
but the ones that get through are certainly not friendly taps.
Emily does manage to land her own jab to the body of Hall several
times, the problem is; she's having to duck down low to do so and it
means she's getting hit to the forehead by straight downward punches
much easier.
Rebecca up to this point has stopped Emily fighting her own fight and
it makes Abdo question "did Emily pick the right opponent to show case
her talents when she's getting clipped too easily"
The bell rings with Emily returning to her corner and kicking the
bottom rope to release her emotions.
Round 4:
Rebecca seems to have found her range in her mind that makes her feel
safe to win this fight.
But Emily is starting to apply pressure to her by accepting that she
has to take a hit to then get inside and out work her friend.
Blunt manages to land a hard hook to the cheek of a surprisingly
unfocused Hall, who was happy with the way the bout was going is
knocked out her stupor.
Emily is now pushing her taller opponent back to the rope where she's
brashing the guard of Rebecca.
Taking her time so to not waste her energy, Emily is picking her
punches instead of taking to finish the fight now as Abdo comments "is
friendship playing a part here?"
Rebecca manages the clinch as the two try shoving each other with
their bodies, the friends are locked together in a sweaty embrace.
The bell rings as the two get back to exchanging punches, the crowd is
urging them on to fight harder.
Round 5:
Either taking the urging from the crowd or both want to end this now,
both up their work rate as Rebecca continues working on the outside
while Emily manages to shove and start roughing up her opponent more
often now.
The problem for Blunt is that while she's protected herself well most
of the time, the punches she has taken is starting to redden her face
and her nose is looking more sore by the moment.
But Rebecca isn't sitting as pretty either as her body is starting to
show the effects and getting a jab to the face which Emily basically
uses to shove her backwards with after its connected, makes her face
start to redden as well.
Emily manages to power Hall to the ropes again and starts ripping hard
hooks to the ribs.
Rebecca starts trading back and mistaking opens herself up, this leads
to a great uppercut to her chin that drops her to her back.
She's rubbing her jaw as Emily nearly jogs back to a neutral corner,
hoping that her friend will just surrender.
Instead at 8, Rebecca is up, gets checked as the ref goes through the
routine and waves both to fight.
Hall is on the defensive till the bell as a moment of lax defence has
cost her badly this round and the momentum seems to have changed
around.
Round 6:
That knockdown last round seems to spur both on as the start
exchanging combos in tight.
Rebecca manages to score by opening a cut on the nose of Emily, who
has tears in her eyes.
Blunt doesn't let that affect her stride as she keeps pressing forward
and even slams a hard straight between the eyes of Rebecca, forcing
Hall to take a few steps back.
After another quick flurry, they clinch again with Rebecca just about
heard whispering "are you ok?" Emily doesn't answer back with words
but with actions as she manages to throw short right hands to the
breadbasket of Hall, who can be heard moaning.
Pulled apart again, Rebecca slightly spitefully throws more jabs to
the nose of Emily to try and open the cut up more as Blunt parries
most of the punches but is rocked by the ones that get through.
The crowd is up and watching what's been somewhat a brutal chess match
between two skillful women.
The bell rings and for the first time, the women's faces can be both
seen to show anger at the other.
Round 7:
Out they both come with Emily much more on the front foot as she knows
that this bout is extremely tight and her bloody nose maybe judged
more harshly for the entire fight than the knockdown she scored
herself.
Rebecca is still trying to enforce her reach advantage, even at this
stage where some people would lose Patience and change tactics for the
knockout.
But Emily is sticking to the pocket of Rebecca more easily and her
power shots are having an effect to Halls body as bruising is forming
and Abdo asks "can she keep sustaining punishment there without
quitting?"
Hall still manages to get that separation again with a straight to
Blunts nose that knocks her back now.
Rebecca starts throwing hooks to the cheeks of Emily whose legs weaken
and down she goes.
Blunt looks to the canvas on her side and punches the mat in disgust
with herself for not being able to beat her friend by now and herself
being knocked down.
She pushes herself up at 8 to the applause of the crowd, then covers
up to the bell.
The doctor comes to check her nose and is happy that Aegis is doing
enough to keep it patched up enough but gives the warning "if it gets
serious, I'll stop the bout"
Round 8:
Out comes Emily with a desperate look in her eyes as she starts
throwing more hard hooks to try and end this.
Rebecca parries or dodges most of the hooks but does take a few to her
cheeks and her right eye is turning black and blue.
She manages to fire several jabs out but Blunt is forcing Hall to
retreat unless she fancies taking another trip to the canvas.
Both women are slowing down as the summer heat and the tempo in these
last several rounds is taking affect.
But Rebecca has the wear with all to clinch up with Emily, whose
trying to free her arms as the two struggle to either control or break
free.
The ref separates the two and as they do step apart, Blunt shouts
"come on babe" before waving Rebecca on to fight.
Hall not being stupid keeps attack that bloody bullseye on Blunts
face, it's getting worse now as Emily can't block as well as the
earlier rounds.
The round ends with Emily almost in tears as she feels this fight
slipping away from her gasp and Rebecca in firm control again.
Round 9:
Emily is using what power she has left to take and force a stoppage as
her corner isn't confident that she's going to win on points.
Rebecca is dancing away behind that jab still but Emily is manages to
land two brutal hooks to the body of Hall who gasps and almost
stumbles on tired legs.
Blunt is on the charge with overhand rights that just miss the
intended target of Hall's head.
Rebecca manages the clinch again as an irate Emily screams and tries
to break free.
The two are pulling each other around as the looks of tension on their
faces certainly paints a picture of two warriors desperate to win.
As they're separated and told to fight, the two exchange wildly and
again Rebecca is the one to retreat after several punches.
The crowd is behind Emily as she is the underdog at this moment but
Rebecca isn't interested in fan support, she's interested in getting
to that finish line.
The bell rings not long after Emily manages to finally corner Hall in
a neutral corner but she has to accept the rounds over and let her
friend go for now.
Round 10:
Both come to the ring centre to touch gloves as they nod then begin to
trade leather in the ring centre.
Emily is trying her best to land that knock out punch with wild lunges
now, that only succeed in missing.
Hall is able to land a hard straight to that bloody nose that rocks an
already unbalanced Blunt then the left hook sends Emily face down.
Hall is urging Blunt to stay down as blood from the cut on Emily's
nose is dripping onto the canvas mixed with tears.
The ref is counting above her as the crowd is solidly behind her to
get up and fight.
At 9 she manages to push herself up on wobbly legs as the ref checks
her over and takes a moment but let's her continue.
Blunt waves Hall on like a gunfighter knowing she's done for but
Rebecca doesn't want to pull the Trigger and is begrudged to keep
hitting Emily.
Rebecca pins Emily to the ropes with hard hooks as she tries to guage
how long is left in the round.
The bell does ring not long after, Rebecca quickly hugs her friend who
is looking beaten.
But we have to go to the scorecards, one judge has the fight 95-93 to
the Rebecca Hall, the other two judges have it 96-92 to your winner
Rebecca Hall.
Winner: Rebecca Hall by Unanimous decision
After:
Rebecca and Emily share a hug after the results announced with both
complimenting each other on their fighting.
Hall has to wipe some tears from Emily who looks into the crowd and
Rebecca waves Abdo to give her the microphone.
Holding the mic in front of her friend, she urges her to say what
she's thinking.
Emily looks conflicted as she starts by saying "I'm sorry I couldn't
win tonight for my fans, I honestly love you guys and let me be clear
Rebecca deserved this win."
She leads the crowd in clapping Rebecca who waves to the crowd before
Emily continues with her speech.
"I'm not saying this is goodbye to the BBU but I can't promise if
it'll be a month or a year or whenever I'll fight here again since I'm
going to be travelling the world with Aegis"
Wiping tears away she finishes by saying "I hope it won't be too long
because I'd love to fight here again for you amazing guys, keep
supporting my girl here ok!"
The crowd cheer as she leaves the ring and a fan hands her a Union
Jack to drap on her back as cameras take photos of this moment.
Kate asks Rebecca "how does it feel to fight your friend in this atmosphere?"
Hall wipes her own tears away and answers "Kate, me and Emily said
we'd leave everything in the ring and emotionally we did, it was hard
to go out at times to win but we both want to be the best so I'm happy
I've won."
Kate then asks "I know you're emotional so I'll just ask, what do you
see as your own future?"
"Well Doutzen is the champ who I'd love to fight for stable pride but
I know that's not possible so with the new breed coming through, I'd
love a crack at them and before I go, Emily will rock the world!
Wooo!" Is the last thing Rebecca says before she leaves the ring.
