Pre-fight: Briana Evigan has been on an absolute roll lately. She is 6-1 since signing with ABC, and showed some incredible skill in her most recent bout taking down the incomparable Hayden Panettiere. The experts have long suggested the potential is there, and a chance to explore it is all that Evigan has required, and with the work she has been getting at ABC translating into this great turn-around of her win-loss record, perhaps they were correct.
Her opponent, Julianna Guill, is a new name to the FCBA and has quite the task ahead of her on debut. ABC’s Director of Scouting, Hilarie Burton, suggests that Guill could be a force to be reckoned with in the future. A similar case to Evigan in theory, and that makes this match-up all the more enticing.
“I’m training hard and I’m seeing results,” Briana tells us confidently. “I was so happy to be able to take down Nina and Hayden, and I know now that I have what it takes. I’m not saying Julianna is going to be a pushover, but it’s her first fight, and, well, I’m not prepared to let a rookie stop me from chasing the current elite.”
Julianna a little nervy facing her debut, but aware of what awaits her in the ring. “I’ve seen Bri fight,” Guill confirms. “I know she is fit as a fiddle and seriously tough. I know she’s wiley and I know she’s skilled. But I’m not here to lose and I don’t intend to. I’ll give her as good a challenge as anyone and prove I deserve a real shot in this league.”
Round 1: Briana looks confident and wades in with pot shots at face that Julianna is able to mostly evade until a swift right smarts her on the cheek. Guill stumbles and Evigan leaps at her chance to pound leather into body, jiggling Julianna’s sexy body about the ring. The crowd seems to enjoy it, but Guill certainly doesn’t, and she fights back hard with a sweeping right that clubs Briana unexpectedly across the cheek.
Bri staggers away and resets, giving a knowing glance to her corner. Easy to imagine that Milano had warned Evigan against going in too aggressively against an unknown quantity, and that quick little exchange seems to have made Briana listen, as she moves a little more cautiously now.
Julianna seems to be testing Bri’s defences with some restrained jabs, and Briana looks impatient, keen to wade in and start pumping again, but too disciplined to actually do so.
The round passes by with a lot of testing and solid defence. Jabs mostly at head height that are picked off, with the occasional hook to Julianna’s ribs when Briana wants a little more. Though, checking herself and never going for anything too ambitious.
Round 2: Briana still cool to start the second, likely to have been instructed to pace herself, knowing her will to exchange. So, Julianna takes the initiative and gets stuck into Evigan, though Bri is light on her feet and not a lot that is dangerous is landing.
Jules decides to mix it up with a few hooks to body, and a few land, but we all know how much of a beating those abs can take, and Evigan doesn’t seem too concerned with absorbing the damage, happy to protect higher and let Guill use up energy early.
Round 3: After watching Briana Evigan over the last year, there is no way she has been told anything other than to play defence and evade while Julianna works hard. Milano clearly concerned with something she sees in Guill, and Evigan, to her credit, is listening and doing as asked.
Guill pursuing, getting bolder now as she realizes the tentativeness of Evigan’s approach. Bri looks pretty fresh, blocking strongly on jabs, and shuffling sideways on evasion of anything heavier. That is until Julianna fakes a high left jab only to cram her right glove hard into Bri’s fit midsection. Briana shaking a little under impact, her face contorting, telling tale of how much strength Guill has behind those gloves. Evigan on the move, but cumbersome as Guill persists and slams a few more hooks into abs, rocking Briana and slowing her considerably. Bri forced to lower the guard, and Julianna quickly SLAMS a cross through Evigan’s jaw, knocking her loopy.
Briana staggers sideways and Julianna pops a lazy left low to keep the guard guessing, just so she can whack another right up at face, this one cracking through Briana’s left cheek and dropping her straight to the mat!
Briana collapsing to her side on the canvas, bewildered as she paws at the mat, the ref’s count quickly making Julianna look a surprise victor. And what an upset this would be for Guill to take it all in round 3. Briana slowly pushing herself to all fours and Julianna licking her lips as she looks on, clearly aware she has the goods to do this even if Evigan should find her feet.
Briana is up just before ten, and the ref makes sure she’s alert enough before continuing. She looks shaky, but we carry on, and Briana is desperately protecting high as we close out the third round. Those fit abs taking a shellacking as a result of Julianna happy to hammer whatever is consistently available.
Jules takes a seat looking confident and focused, while Briana huffs her way into her corner, being seen to by her team and resting that bright red midriff.
Round 4: Julianna comes straight at Briana, who is now completely on the back foot with no choice but to muster some defence. Bri concerned about her bruised left cheek and her groggy head, guard high, and Julianna happy to go right back to throwing hooks at ribs and midriff, battering Evigan about the ring as those perfect abs get a giant workout.
Briana endures, even trapped against the ropes and just taking the full power of Julianna’s punches. But, even Evigan has her limits, and those bruised ribs are finally screaming to her to lower her guard. And as she does, Guill instantly rips a high cross that clobbers her on the jawline and has her staggering along the ropes.
Julianna comes again, and Briana defiantly throws out a jabbing combo that bobbleheads Guill, but only slows her roll, certainly not stopping it. Julianna swing high and wild, looking to finish Evigan now, who still has the wits and reactions to duck and narrowly avoid that dangerous strike. And while low, Briana pops a couple of quick shots into Julianna’s own tummy, letting her know she’s still around.
Evigan almost looking lively, until she straightens back up and Guill comes in with an overhand that cracks open some flesh just above her left eye.
Briana survives another round, but at the moment that is all she’s doing, and she is weary in her corner, getting that fresh cut tended too. Julianna breathing heavy, lovely chest rising and falling as she stares across at Evigan, wondering just how hard she has to hit the girl.
Round 5: Briana storms out of her corner, and it looked as though she and Milano had a bit of a tiff between rounds. The upside is, we may get to see some of the Briana that wanted to show in the first round.
And we do. Evigan channels her frustration appropriately and she comes together hard with Julianna in the centre of the ring. Guill’s leading right snuffed out by Evigan’s guard, and Bri launches straight into a right that busts Julianna’s lip instantly. Hair flying over Guill’s face as she is rocked, and she never gets the guard up in time to prevent Bri’s onslaught. Evigan raining overhand after overhand at Guill, seemingly without a care about whether or not they should land flush or even on guard. Many get through and Julianna takes some hard shots to the temples and a big one to her right eye that swells it up a little.
Julianna wants to fight back, but Briana is in beast mode now, running on pure adrenaline. The arms have plenty of energy and they are doing all of the work now as Evigan just stands there and delivers, ramming leather into Guill at pure will.
Julianna eventually forced to turtle, and channelling even more frustration, Briana decides to launch an uppercut straight through Jules’ left jug, bouncing the orb wildly. Guill’s jaw dropping upon impact, and she is just leaning back against the ropes, now her midriff taking a spattering of punches.
The bell gives Julianna a rest before the ref needs to step in, but if that had carried on any longer, there is no way it could have been allowed. Round five absolutely all Evigan, and Julianna had better defend herself better than that should Briana be as ruthlessly aggressive in the coming rounds.
Round 6: Julianna Guill on debut, almost had Evigan out, but with a furious second wind, Briana has flipped this match on its head. Now to start the sixth, Jules looks for a return to offense, while Briana is in no mood to revert to defence.
Leather meets tummy almost simultaneously as each beauty refuses to cool this fight any longer. They engage in an exchange of pumping fists into belly, and despite Evigan’s midriff having taken a more sustained battering over the six rounds, it is Julianna’s that gives first. Poor Guill must not have watched the fight tape on Evigan from the last 6 months, because she should know that those abs are made of steel. Instead, she futilely pummels away until her own tummy starts to churn, a little swelling a cause for concern. And she can take no more, backing away and dropping the guard. And that is when Evigan truly strikes.
Briana rushes in and slams a right into Julianna’s left eye, almost taking her off her feet. Guill sways, and Evigan dips into an uppercut that cracks through the bottom of Julianna’s chin, launching her through the air and flat onto her back!
Briana grinning now for the first time this entire bout as she watches the rookie’s eyes flicker. Julianna slowly sits up and blinks madly, trying to clear her head. The ref looks concerned and the crowd is cheering loudly, sensing the end. Bravely, Julianna staggers to her feet and demands to continue, despite looking completely glazed.
She steps in with a jab that Evigan sidesteps and the reply is a cheeky hook straight through left jug, bringing a wild yelp from poor Julianna as the breast flies hard across her chest. She cups at it, and Briana’s eyes light up at a free shot to jaw, which she takes with left-right-left-right crosses, banging Julianna into the corner and whipping her head side to side with absolutely no resistance. Guill’s eyes are closing and before she is totally massacred, the referee steps in, waving this thing off. Winner by TKO6: Briana Evigan!
Post-fight: Briana Evigan gleeful as she waves to the crowd at the announcement of her victory. “I’m in good form,” Bri admits. “I feel incredible and I’m so happy that it keeps translating into wins. I feel like I’m getting the hang of this whole boxing thing. Let’s just hope I can keep it up!”
Julianna Guill groggy but coherent as she huffs in her seat, trying to clear her head. “She is tough alright. I’m not too disheartened. I know it was my debut and I have a lot to learn. But hey, I knocked her down. That has to count for something, right?”
