BBU SUMMER GRUDGE SHOWDOWN FROM CARDIFF ARENA

BEFORE: Things are getting desperate for Jenny Frost who remains one of the most popular jobbers in BBU. That's hardly acceptable for the Merseyside blonde - especially that jobber part - and she tells Denise van Outen she'd finally like to mount a winning spree regardless if nobody follows her fights anymore. Her desperation is measured with the quality of tonight's opposition - Spanish model Laura Barriales was stopped by Miriam Leone on her debut back in May and her actual prospects are hard to predict.
Jenny seems to believe these models are skinny types and easy to chop down, she gives away four inches in height and that's a tremendous handicap given the singer's woeful career to date. Van Outen suggests fighting the PageThrees camp is the only viable solution to cure Frost's chronic punchbag disease but apparently there's some pride left in the singer's entourage. Last time she flirted with international opposition, Elisabetta Canalis knocked her out in eight but Laura should be much easier to come by.
Jenny Frost wears a navy blue bikini set and white gloves. Long blonde hair straight. Laura Barriales wears a silver bikini top with black trim, black hotpants and red gloves. Dark brown hair tied in a curly ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.
Round 1: Both women are lethargic at the start of the fight and that annoys van Outen in the booth but one can tell there's a huge lack of confidence inside the ropes which is particulary worrying for Jenny who's clearly the more experienced of the two. She should be using this to her advantage but allows the brunette to settle and Laura is three inches taller than the singer who could become pivotal to her chances of scoring that maiden BBU victory tonight. The Cardiff Arena crowd urges the fighters to show more committement but they refuse to engage in a proper boxing dust up and maintain the lukewarm form all the way until the bell.
Round 2: Laura begins to use the superior reach well in the opening minute and forces Jenny's hand but that's a terrible tactics from the singer who doesn't stand a chance of closing the model from the inside and gets whipped on her heels when the Spanish girl smacks her with a piercing hook on the brow ridge. Laura isn't as highly touted as compatriot Ivana Baquero but shows the evil edge down the stretch and pummels a truly lacklustre Frost back to the ropes where she bends her with a steady jabbing assault on the body. When the singer's guard drops, she switches high and lands more clubbing hooks on the cheeks leaving the English veteran stranded and just getting pounded into irrelevance. What a nightmare start for Jenny who looks like the genuine jobber she was from day one in BBU!
Round 3: Jenny finally uses some fancy footwork to stay clear of the Spanish aerial attack and finds success countering over the top. She exposes the lanky model as totally worthless moving from side to side and checks up with her breadbasket before sticking more punches to the body. Laura clinches her to briefly tame the attack but Frost wins the wrestling match and shoves the younger opponent onto the ropes where she smacks Barriales on the boobs and clips the jaw for a good measure. She builds on her supreme position by pounding away at the ribcage come the final minute and the model suddenly looks very hittable which makes van Outen wonder why didn't the singer push forward like that from the opening bell?
Round 4: Barriales is really slow on her feet and Frost has found her stride in response, she ducks under the aerial attack again and crashes into the brunette's guts but Laura stacks her with a clubbing hook on the temple and locks a lenghty clinch thereafter. Jenny fails to break free this time and relies on the ref to help her out however when another hook finds her temple, she backs off and lets the brunette wear herself out a little in a frantic mid distance pursuit. Apparently Laura's lost her composure here and channels her Latin temper to punish the Merseyside lass but simpy doesn't have the legs to make the chase successful.
Round 5: We're back to the duck & weave show and Denise van Outen is truly puzzled why Jenny doesn't push more here; Laura hasn't impressed much at all and is destined to be chopped down by any agressive opponent yet given Frost's dismal record, she's the last one who can be accussed of such tactics. Single punches are largely ineffective and both women seem content with the cagey display but the crowd has had enough and begins to whistle & jeer at the lack of action in the ring. Laura finally blinks first and rips a solid left/right cross that splits the singer's mitts but misses the overhand put away and gets clinched into another lenghty stalemate in the closing stages. This one is wide open at half-distance and van Outen doesn't believe that's actually a good sign considering the C-grade boxing performance.
Round 6: Laura pulls the trigger and stuffs the blonde up with a mighty jabbing rush to the body before blasting a left hook across the singer's mouth. Jenny was caught off guard by all this and looked set to continue the half-hearted approach but now pays a heavy price as the brunette head hunts her with a solid hooking effort and finds all the holes in the collapsing high guard. Frost gets pounded back to the ropes and caves in behind a high earmuff and that's an old problem which can't be cured even against such a mediocre opponent like Barriales. The Spanish girl deserves some credit though for making her shots count as she buries the lacklustre Merseyside singer under a steady jabbing display and keeps picking Jenny off until the latter crumbles into aching spasms. Another hook goes low this time and bends the blonde to the side which allows Laura to land a flurry of jabs upstairs late on and just keep pounding away until the ref drags her back at the bell. Jenny slumps on her knees with a loud whimper and sports a couple of deep gashes underneath each eye which is terrible news and basically gives Barriales the bruising breakthrough she was looking for all night.
Round 7: It's gone from bad to worse for the singer as she fails to stay clean of the Spanish assault early in the seventh, that superior movement is gone and Laura crashes into the swollen face of her opponent with more vicious leather. She staggers Frost in the center of the ring and while the singer tries to survive in a desperate earmuff, she leaves her midsection exposed and the brunette just rips into her liver with a left hook after finally getting a little tired of the head hunting drill. AND JENNY SCREAMS OUT IN PAIN... she takes a couple of steps back and crashes down on her knees. Ugh! She hugs her aching liver area rolling onto her side in the proccess and well, that might be that here! It's a slow count but still too fast for Frost's chances to survive and she remains horizontal on the boards when it reaches ten. KO7 Laura Barriales!!!
AFTER: That was a very low-key affair during the opening five rounds and showed why neither of these two women will be threatening the front pages anytime soon. However Laura kicked into higher gear in the sixth and duly dismantled a completely subdued Merseyside singer. Jenny's defensive tactics was wrong since the very first second and she really should have pummelled Laura whenever possible. The height & reach disadvantage doesn't justify the classic horror show the Atomic Kitten fans have been dealt with again. Denise van Outen thinks Frost is a lost cause and the only thing missing on her resume is a public spanking at the hands of fellow Mersey woman Danielle Lloyd. Is that a challenge-in-waiting?
Final result: Laura Barriales def. Jenny Frost KO7.
