Demi Lovato versus Carrie Underwood
(Words & Results: Lookout!)
(Thursday Night Football Fight)

BEFORE: It's a thrilling time for Sports fans with the start of a new season with the National Football League (NFL) and also, the debut of a new theme for 'Sunday Night Football' this weekend, sung by none other than Carrie Underwood. The game tonight is on a Thursday, however, between the Carolina Panthers and the defending champions, the Denver Broncos in a rematch of last year's Super Bowl. For the past ten years, the song has been 'Waiting All Day For Sunday Night', based on Joan Jett's “I Hate Myself For Loving You.” Now, it'll be based on a debut Carrie had with Miranda Lambert called “Somethin' Bad.” Fans are eagerly anticipating the newest version, which should be exciting, but not without its drama as rumor had it that the league contacted Demi Lovato first about creating a new, updated theme for Sunday Night Football. Although it was all done very secretly, word did get back to Carrie Underwood, who was none too pleased. So, now, as part of the build-up to kick off the night, there was a match for “charity” between the two!

Prior to the press conference, representatives for both fighters thought a sing-off might be the best option, so here at Sports Authority Field At Mile High (more commonly known as Mile High Stadium), the two came out to sing, with Carrie choosing to belt out the song “All American Girl”, a number one country hit and Demi Lovato going with “Confident”, a single from the album of the same name. Both of them singing loudly, with the crowd the neutral arbitrator via an applause meter, which is going wild for both fighters. Neither fighter's singing prowess able to dominate the proceedings, but the lively nature of “Confident” appears to perhaps give Demi the nod as the crowd roars for them both – the stadium shaking as the crowd appears to demand an 'encore' or rematch in the sing-off, especially as the two fighters step dangerously closer towards one another.

However, the applause meter goes off the charts as suddenly country singer Brad Paisley arrives to perform a surprise duet of his recent single with Demi Lovato, 'Without A Fight'! Carrie looks surprised and even hurt, eyes widened and arms crossed, as she and Brad have hosted the 'Country Music Awards' numerous times together (nine years running) and have collaborated together before. But, this one appears to come as a bit of a surprise to her. An even bigger surprise occurs, however when Demi and Brad both invite Carrie to join her on the debut – which Carrie does reluctantly as she had recently tweeted in response to the duet that she'd also love to sing with Demi Lovato. Demi and Carrie had played nice on Twitter, hinting at a potential collaboration between the two - but, as the two singers 'bump' into one another throughout the song, singing over each other and get into one another's faces, it's clear that tonight won't end as the song title predicts – these two aren't leaving without a fight!

To only further fan the flames, Carrie Underwood is quick to recall an incident from Lovato's stint on X-Factor, where an aspiring musician had sang a power ballad by Heart (“Alone”) and had done so, because she stated Carrie Underwood had performed it previously. In an attempt to boost her confidence, Demi told the contestant, “No, you would do it better than Carrie Underwood”, a comment that Carrie Underwood fans or the singer herself have ever forgotten.

“The world of country music is a warm and inviting place, which is why she is getting to duet with one of our biggest stars, but it is not an open invitation to walk all over what I've accomplished. I'm debuting MY take on 'Sunday Night Football' tonight and while I've heard the rumors that they were looking to Demi for an update, that simply isn't freaking true. Why would they ever go away from the best in country music? Demi has always thought others or herself can do it better than Carrie Underwood. Tonight, she gets a chance to find out why she can't when I shatter her 'confidence' because she isn't ready for this country girl!”

Demi beaming, “I'm such a huge fan of Carrie Underwood and always have been. I'm not going to comment on any rumors that the NFL contacted me and I'll plead the fifth. But, I was serious when I said I wanted to step into the studio with Carrie, but it looks like we'll be stepping into the ring instead. It's absolutely NOTHING personal, but what I do take personally is where she thinks that she can push me around like I'm somebody brand-new to the music world. I've never thought I'm better than Carrie Underwood, but I do think I can win tonight by popping her little cocky bubble and I'm going to prove that by kicking her country ass.!”

Both fighters change for the fight as Carrie emerges in a cutoff Tennesee Titans jersey to show her support of her favorite team, cut to show off her toned midriff, white shorts and light blue gloves - hair in a fighting ponytail; Demi clad in a Dallas Cowboys jersey, cut off as well to show off her fandom and her taut tummy, dark blue bottoms with white gloves and black hair cut short. Both fighters respectfully touch gloves and stare each other down, chesting up to each other as they are approximately the same height. The ref pulls them apart and this match is set for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.

Match set up on the grass in the middle of Mile High Stadium with ring posts placed around the 50 yard line – right in the middle of the field with the crowd able to see the action being carried up on video screens as well for everybody to enjoy.

R1: Demi comes out, right hand at chest with her jabs flicking out with some backhanded pop flair and sidestepping to the left. Just like their musical styles, these two are a contrast in the ring too as Carrie is bobbing energetically, small steps forward, twisting with the weaving action to keep scooping at Lovato's flank. But, Demi showing surprisingly swift hands, peppering her foe via the jab and vexing her with smooth footwork as the time in the Lookout! gym appears to be paying off. Lovato is turning her blonde, with Underwood unable to get into a rhythm early. Head movement and good blocking making Carrie a tough target to connect with, but she is getting harassed around the ring and getting caught by sudden licks as she sends hard right hands from her chest to connect with Carrie's cleavage and face. In the final minute, Carrie seems to get some steady shots in as she manages to bully Lovato back to the ropes, celebrating with loud, whacking hooks to Demi's flank in response, getting off strong as it prompts clinches from Demi, but Lovato ahead on points as the round ends and the two are pulled apart.

R2: In the first minute, Carrie dips down to jab to tummy, then comes over the top with a looping right hand to club a shocked Lovato DOWN to her backside early in the contest. Demi had been coming forward behind the overhand right hands, but misjudging distance and her rival, getting clocked hard and staggering up shaky. Underwood going to work, just slinging the jab off of her hip and then shooting out overhand rights, body bending down low on follow through to drag that heavy right hand into Demi's head. Demi fighting back hard off of her chest, gloves thudding into Carrie's cleavage and tummy, but her knees are buckling a bit as she is battered back and forth across the ring – with the country superstar taking the round wide.

R3: Demi struggling to get her legs back underneath her after that knockdown in the previous round as Carrie is stalking and smiling. Demi pulling backwards away from Carrie's jab and getting feinted off balance. Demi keeping her guard up, gloves high around her chest and jabbing out towards her face to keep her foe from pursuing her. But, Carrie keeps charging forward, working her rival to the ropes and in the final minute, just palming and pushing with her left to prop Lovato up for crashing right hands to jug and body. Lovato grunting loudly, butt-in-ropes, dropping her hands at the bell and gets clocked right to the cheek as Carrie can't help herself. Ref warning Carrie as she smiles, looking like the All-American girl as she skips back to the corner.

R4: It's two way slugging between the two in the middle of the ring as both singers have tested one another and neither have come away impressed. Brisk one and two combinations are being exchanged with both aggressive, circling one another as spanking shots echo throughout the arena, with the collision of leather on skin being heard with both girls being Mic'd Up as the crowd listens to them taunt one another angrily and breathlessly. It's a good contrast with Carrie throwing a little more accurately, bobbing in more inside, but Demi, while not as accurate, is whipping in heavier hands that have Underwood backing up. In the final minute, Lovato scores with a nice sequence that has Underwood wobbly-butt as she ducks underneath the blonde's offense and delivers a few short, compact left and rights to back Caarrie up at the bell. A dazed Underwood looks stunned as Demi gives her a confident staredown as she backs up to her corner at the bell, grinning.

R5: Demi finally getting back into things as she slips underneath the jab, ripping hooks into Carrie's abs, rendering her older foe breathless for the first time in the contest. Carrie a little confused, clinching and waiting for the break, rather than punching through them as Demi keeps sliding inside repeatedly, getting off body shots as she keeps hammering at Underwood breadbasket with impunity. Carrie able to get a few good shots to belly and breasts, but Lovato able to control the action to take the round wide.

R6: Demi getting back on top big time once again here in the sixth as Carrie was sliding out of range, just getting clocked with a big overhand right as Underwood is wobbly-butt. Only seconds later, Demi running into action with a wild series of chopping rights and lefts sends Carrie down to her backside with a thud! CARRIE IS DOWN as the ref pushes Demi backwards to administer what turns out to be an 8 count. Carrie blinking in shock as she stumbles to her feet, trying to catch her breathe as she is jabbed backwards to the corner, with Demi applying a beatdown. Demi patiently bodying up and sinking a rihand in low, then sending the right hand up to hook into breast or face – with Carrie soaking up the shutout to survive the round.

R7: Underwood up on her toes, spanking back Lovato's face with the jab, but Demi continuing forward, with no quit in her eyes. Carrie keeps up the pressure, but Lovato looping in and chopping blows from a variety of actions to send her foe backwards to the ropes once again. Lovato bodying up all big-girl and the slugging singer just opening up inside, welting her foe's ribcage and flank. Crowd up on their feet as Dani twists her solid torso back and forth, ripping left and rights to bounce the blonde's body and head backwards. Carrie slumping in the corner as Underwood tries to punch her way free, but a right hand from Demi that nearly connects with her face startles her, setting up a come-back left hook on the jaw from Lovato! Carrie is hurt, staggering forward to clinch and Demi hammers her with a hard right cross to her cheek, sending CARRIE DOWN to the grass!! Demi is pulled back away as Underwood pushes up to all fours, but then spills back down, facefirst at the 50 yard line – snoozing – as Demi Lovato struts away the KO7 victrix!!

Afterwards: Demi bouncing around, celebrating as the crowd roars as loudly as they would all night long for the contest and getting up on the turnbuckle, dancing a little bit as she then hops out of the corner and struts back over to Carrie, who is still facedown on the grass. Demi nudges Carrie over to her back and plants a foot across her chest, then calls for a microphone. Receiving one quickly, Demi brings it up to her lips and leads the crowd in a chant which was tradition for the stadium as Demi announces, “Beatdown by Carrie Intended for Demi Lovato is...” as the fans completed the chant, roaring “IN-COM-PLETE!”, followed by a “sad trombone” sound effect. The video board operators get into it by flashing the words “TOUCHDOWN DEMI LOVATO!” Demi grinned, raising both hands into the air to celebrate before bringing the microphone back down to her lips as she belted out:

“I been waitin' all day for Sunday night
The tough get rough in a primetime fight
The last one standin' gets to turn out the lights
'Cause I been waitin' all day for Sunday night”

The Applause Meter went crazy, as did the crowd, enjoying the classic theme of the 'Sunday Night Football' one last time, despite it being a Thursday, as Demi Lovato ended up being the last one standing here and as she reveled in the moment to “spike” the microphone just like you would a football at the end of the play, as the stadium staff did end up turning out the lights. When they came back on, Demi Lovato was running off the field, pumping her fist with excitement and leaving Carrie Underwood knocked out on the grass. Although Carrie would be fully recovered to promote and participate in the debut of her new 'Sunday Night Football” theme by the end of the weekend, she would have to endure the replays of the win by Lovato on ESPN throughout the weekend, where despite the presence of an actual football game, Demi's right cross to end Carrie's night and her subsequent failure to beat the count appear on ESPN's Top Ten Plays of the Day, emerging as another number one 'hit' for Demi Lovato!
