BEFORE: Although both these women are Italians by birth, Carla Bruni has resided in France since her childhood so her BBU comeback in the Palace of Versailles should come as no surprise. Maria Grazia Cucinotta has refused to fight anyone other than Sophie Marceau or Monica Bellucci on this lightweight title undercard but with these two options unavailable she's turned her attentions to the fellow cougar Bruni - who hasn't officially retired from the ring despite various rumours surfacing around since her KO3 beating at the hands of another Italian, Laura Pausini back in March 2012.
Denise van Outen questions the durability of both these 40+ fighters, Maria's epic ten round contest against Charlize Theron dates back to her 'The World Is Not Enough' heyday over a decade ago and her own comeback ended in a vicious fifth round stoppage to Berenice Marlohe in June. However someone's destined to finally get off the mark in the victory column and this simple fact should be enough to warrant a heated if not fast-paced contest.

Round 1:
Carla wants to impress the local audience by an aggressive start but allthough she hooks up with Maria's body, she gets stunned by a wicked hook to the jaw that reels her back and allows the younger woman to land more crisp jabs down the stretch. Carla gets backed into the ropes very quickly and struggles to make her punches count, she skims off Maria's forearms and sinks on her knees when the Sicily woman connects with her breasts before another uppercut catches her on the jaw again. Cucinotta leans on her with more aggressive tactics and just lays into the body to keep Bruni trapped and unable to respond. The Versailles crowd tries to urge their favorite into some kind of resistance but Carla is just pummelled into the corner and begins to wince in pain soon as Maria's leather rush takes it's toll much quicker than anyone anticipated. The raven-haired model signs off a dominant performance with another uppercut to the jaw leaving Bruni a little woozy at the bell already.

Round 2:
Carla's long legs don't offer her any protection from Maria's superior reach and things escalate quickly in the second when the Sicily vixen stuns her older foe with a quick one-two hooking combo to the nose that begins to leak blood all of the sudden. Bruni realizes she's been cut up already and tries to respond with a hooking drive but fails to split Cucinotta's mitts and eats another facial combo soon thereafter which reels her onto the ropes for good. Maria stalks her with a piercing uptempo assault and aims exclusively at the head; this tactics snaps Carla's head back & forth as she gurgles in her efforts to break free but a late hook to the solar plexus sends her leaning over the ropes with more spasms and Maria cleans up to the gut before an uppercut switch finds the jaw and almost sends the embattled Bruni down for the count.

Round 3:
Carla's face gets plastered with a brutal dose of Sicilian leather early in the third and this is just a one-sided beating now in the ring with Cucinotta reigning supreme and raining punches to rough up her foe's otherwise pretty ordeal. Bruni's gloves get smacked aside repeatedly and it's clear she's not ready to embrace her comeback as she wobbles forward with eyes closed after a countless Cucinotta hook smashes her on the jaw. Carla locks a seemingly live-saving clinch just to survive the Italian heat but Maria still harpoons her to the body and shoves butt-in-ropes regardless before punishing the ribcage all the way through the final minute. Denise van Outen reckons Cuciniotta wants to chop the older woman in half but Carla avoids the looming disaster and barely hangs on which getting worked over in the corner. At the bell the ref has to pull the Italian off her prey and Bruni just shakes her head in pain while refusing to look at her rampant opponent who vows to "punch Carla's head off" in the next round.

Round 4:
There's just no way back for Carla here, Maria slams a hooking drive upstairs on target and resumes the blood spillage from the previously wounded nose. Bruni just backs away at will but Cucinotta still nails her with a left/right combo on the mouth and wobbles against the turnbuckle. There she clatters into the model's exposed midsection and keeps raining punches until she literally WRENCHES the hapless woman into the canvas. CARLA SLIDES DOWN ON HER BACKSIDE and rests against the cornerpost with eye closed. It's clear she's had more than enough of her BBU comeback and Denise van Outen is hardly surpised when the count passes her by amid loud jeers & whistles from the partisan Versailles audience.KO4 Maria Grazia Cucinotta!!!

AFTER: That was downright impressive from the Sicilian goddess who truly dismantled her fellow cougar opponent. Carla's career might - and should - be over after this pillar-to-post beating in front of her adoptive home crowd whereas Maria indicates she's anything but done with her boxing endeavours and openly challenges Elizabeth Hurley into a brutal slugfest: "I've WRECKED that cheap whore Bruni here but I'd really love to punch Hurley's face off! That bytch long deserves it! How about it? Does she have the guts to face the best cougar boxer in Europe? Does she? I'm waiting for your answer, cow!"
