"IFFI RETURN AT THE ASYLUM PPV"
BEFORE:
"Yes, she beat me the first time," says Pink with a shake of the head. "And, that was no fluke. This girl can fight, and she's proven it. But. Tonight's the night Pinkness gets back on track"
"I'm not thinking about what happened last time," says Jennifer without the hint of a smile. "Last time was a long time ago. This is about tonight. And, one of us IS going to get back on track. And, that one of us is ME."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Trouble' booming through the arena, and that means 'The Queen of Front Street', Pink, is on her way to the ring..."
Cassie: "And, of course, Pink coming down first because Jennifer gets the honors tonight, having won their first meeting."
O'Dell: "Pinkness all business as she's down the aisle and into the ring. Neve and Jewel help her off with the robe and she's wearing that black bikini with the white skulls on it we've seen so many times..."
McCarthy: "Same one she was wearing when Raymund knocked her out last month. Same one she was wearing when MORRISON stopped her three years ago..."
Tess: "Not the same ONE. The same KIND, but I'm pretty sure Wiz doesn't have his girls wearing the same bikini for three years..."
Cassie: "I know for a FACT he does not. In fact, it's rare that a Front Street fighter wears a bikini more than once in a fight."
McCarthy: "I didn't MEAN...you know what...SHUT UP, BOTH OF YOU!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, and listen to 'Too Bad About Your Girl' by the Donnas, and watch as IFFI's own Jennifer Morrison comes down the aisle!"
Tess: "Morrison went on a nice run through the Front Street bantamweight division back in 2013. First, she stopped Allison Mack, then Pink. Then, Nicole Scherzinger stopped the streak...in overtime. Morrison's been up and down since then, but that run shows how dangerous she is..."
McCarthy: "I agree that she's dangerous, but beating Pink and Mack and then losing to the Original Dancing Hooker isn't exactly covering yourself with glory..."
O'Dell: "Morrison into the ring and helped off with the robe. She's sporting a white number that's very similar to the one she wore three-plus years ago, the last time these two fought. Ladies about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Pink. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Morrison beat her once. She'll do it again."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And, there's the bell. Morrison, as usual, aggressive early. She's coming right after Pink, and Pinkness more than willing to play matador right now. Jennifer advancing, Pink circling, jabbing, looking to use the legs and the athleticism right now. And, while Jennifer's sturdy and a very good technical fighter, that's one place where she's not going to match Pink..."
Cassie: "No way. Pink's as athletic as any bantam on the planet."
O'Dell: "An, you're seeing it. Great feet, wonderful movement of head and hands. Bouncing on the toes, then quickly going flat footed for a flurry, then back on the toes. Morrison handling it pretty well, though. She's also got good feet, and she knows the angles, knows how to box with. The IFFI beauty making this a good, two-way round."
McCarthy: "No surprise. She's fought Pink before. Knows what to expect. Knows how to fight her."
O'Dell: "And, the same true of Pinkness. Coming down the stretch now. Very, very good tactical round. Morrison getting more done as we go along. Might have been trailing in the early going, but she's made it up and, as we hit the bell, it's very close, but I'm going with Jennifer in the first round."
Tess: "Agreed, though it's razor thin."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second underway with more movement from Pink. The Front Streeter not exactly dancing out there, mind. This is no circle and jab stuff. It's just good movement designed to get to spots and keep the opponent from squaring up. Working pretty well, too, but Jennifer very patient, very determined."
Cassie: "Morrison's just a smart, veteran fighter who's very crafty. She knows how to work the angles, and no amount of movement is going to cause her too many problems."
O'Dell: "True enough. I still recall her taking Scherzinger twelve rounds, and Nicole was bouncing all over the place that night. Pink, meanwhile, in and out, left and right. On the toes, then flat-footed. Morrison again getting better as the round goes on. She's getting punches put together. Lots of heavy flurries now."
Tess: "This is more what I expected to see, because both of these girls are aggressive."
O'Dell: "And, that's coming out right now. Big exchange after big exchange. Morrison landing some good shot in that last one. Forces Pink to cover up. Jennifer just BUZZING the Front Streeter right now. Pink not hurt, but suppressed as Morrison swings away to the bell. Close early, but Jen pulls away to take this one clean."
McCarthy: "20-18 Morrison. And, like I said, she's going to get yet another win over Front Street for IFFI!"
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third begins with some different tactics from Pink. Singer squaring up to the actress now. Wants to get some power on. Morrison more than willing to fight on these terms. She's getting off more heavy shot of her own. Fire fight again! Both fighters letting 'em go flat footed in the center of the ring!"
Tess: "Not a lot of subtlety to this, Jenny!"
O'Dell: "No, there is not! Both girls getting the hands back, still moving the head and shoulders and the feet to create the angles they want, but there's no doubt punches are being sat down on, and both fighters are landing hard stuff. Nobody giving an inch, as you'd expect with two girls this aggressive..."
McCarthy: "This is GREAT stuff from Morrison. Won't punk to Pink!"
O'Dell: "Why would she? She's the one who won the last time. Twenty seconds to go in an action-packed third. BIG right hand from Pink backed up Morrison, but Jennifer fires right back with a solid combination. HARD left hook from Pinkness, and Morrison backed up again. Five seconds left. One more exchange and there's the bell. Close. Pink."
Cassie: "And that cuts Morrison's lead to 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins the way the third ended. Ladies right after one another, not closing distance, standing at range, and getting off with power. Morrison holding her own against one of the hardest-hitting bantams in the FCBA at the moment, just a little bit more evidence, as if any was needed, as to how sturdy Jennifer is..."
McCarthy: "One of the hardest-hitting bantams? The hardest-hitting bantam in the FCBA is sitting right next to you!"
Tess: "Are you even a BANTAM anymore? I heard you were going to come back and fight lightweight?"
Cassie: "Are you even ACTIVE anymore? You haven't been in a ring in YEARS..."
McCarthy: "I...YOU...SHUT UPPPPPPP!"
O'Dell: "Truck, we need a ruling...ok. Drink up, boys. Pink showing more of that subtle movement we've been seeing from both fighters since the fight started. Lots of little bobs of the head, shoulder moves, some nice footwork. Morrison getting plenty of that done as well. Both of these girls are veterans and know the craft..."
Tess: "And, you're seeing a lot of that craft right now. This is good, sound stuff. It's just that both fighters are looking to get heavy shot on."
O'Dell: "And, both are doing it. Final twenty seconds of the fourth. GOOD shot from Pink. That was a straight right hand. Morrison fires back with a nice combination. Three punches landed and scored. Pink jabbing, looking for space for a right hand. Won't find it before the bell rings. End of the fourth. Morrison close."
Cassie: "And, Jennifer's back up two, 39-37."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Nobody interested in changing terms here in the fifth. Everybody plenty happy with this very physical, ranged stuff. So, that's where we are and that's what we're doing. Mac, you've been in corners for fights. At what point to you decide to change tactics in a situation like this. It's definitely a judgement call."
McCarthy: "It is, and it depends. Obviously, if what you're doing isn't working, you change it. But, both girls are scoring on these terms. So,unless someone begins to pull away, no need to change anything."
O'Dell: "And, that's clearly the thinking in both corners. Pink landing a solid combination there. Backed Morrison up a step. But Jennifer right back at the singer, landing a solid right hand in that flurry. Lots of action in this one. Both girls very busy. They might be in their late 30s, but you couldn't tell that by the work rates."
Cassie: "The key is, they're both in great shape. This is why we train so hard at Bazz, why we have the hill. When other fighters wear down, WE don't. And, that's a huge advantage."
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch in yet another competitive round. Pink dipping and ripping a little body now. Morrison ties her up, shoves her off. Not going to have any of that. Back to range. Good flurry for Jennifer and a NICE response from Pink. Sent sweat flying with that left hook and there's the bell. Yet another close one. Pink."
Tess: "And there's not much in it at the half. 48-47, Jennifer."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Right back at it in the second half. Fighters setting up mid-ring at glove range and getting to work. Morrison just a master of angles. Hard to get anything really clean on her. But, Pink finding ways to do it. It's the quickness she has, that natural athleticism, the stuff you can't teach. Enables her to get home when Jennifer's vulnerable."
Tess: "Nobody better at that than the Unified Flyweight Champion here. Speed is a cure for a lot of things. And, it's as dangerous a weapon as there is."
O'Dell: "It's all those things, and Pink has it in spades. Morrison, though, crafty enough to offset a lot of it and continue to fight on even terms UNTIL THAT RIGHT HAND! Pink staggers Jennifer with a right and Morrison nearly went down! Pink all in now. No question about this one. She wants to finish it and right now..."
Cassie: "But, look at Morrison. Guard high, countering between flurries, still moving the head and hands. No panic. She's wobbly and giving ground, but no panic."
O'Dell: "Absolutely none. But, she's not stopping Pink from grabbing every inch of canvas the singer wants. Pinkness pinning Jen to the ropes now and going to town. Working some body, then back up to the head. Wants to bring the guard down, but, not going to happen. Morrison to smart and too tough for that. Ten seconds left. Good right hand again Pink. Morrison ships it. Five seconds. And, there's the bell. Pink. Wide."
McCarthy: "And, we're all even at 57."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Pink right back to work in the seventh. Jennifer still without the legs she normally has, and the singer taking full advantage. Morrison on the defensive. Countering when she can, but mostly taking and it's hard stuff she's shipping ladies. Pink going body again, now back upstairs. Morrison tying up..."
McCarthy: "Really smart stuff from Morrison. Killing some time. Working the clock."
O'Dell: "Pink shoving free, going back to the body. Morrison tying up again. Again, Pink shoves free and hooks the midsection, and, again, Jennifer ties up. Referee in between to break them. Morrison jabbing. Pink stepping forward, lands a good left hook and GETS DROPPED BY A RIGHT HAND! Perfectly-placed counter by Morrison drops Pink to a sitting position!"
Tess: "Great punch by Jennifer..."
O'Dell: "Count at three. Four. Five. Pink pounding the canvas. Not at all happy about this. She was about a minute from evening the fight. Seven. Eight. And, she's to her feet. She takes the mandatory, and here comes Morrison! Jennifer a buzz saw now. Pink gives ground, goes to the ropes. Jen all in, winging away. Pink playing defense and IT'S OVER! Referee jumping in! He's stopping this! Pink going to argue..."
Cassie: "She needed to do more. I see why he ref stopped it."
O'Dell: "Argument going to fall on deaf ears. It's over! And your winner by TKO7 is Jennifer Morrison!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Jennifer Morrison, and Jen, great fight and a great win for you."
Jennifer: "It was both. She's a heck of a fighter, but I knew I could beat her again. There isn't anyone in this division I can't beat on a given day."
Tess: "What's next for you?"
Jennifer: "Well. Scherzinger spoiled the party last time. Wouldn't mind another shot at her. But. We'll see."
