IFFI RETURN AT THE ASYLUM PPV
BEFORE:
"She's a girl who's won some fights," says Ksenia with a nod. "But, she's not at my level. As she's about to find out."
"She's one of the better girls I've fought," says Jane with a nod of her own. "But, she's a girl I can beat. And, that's just what I'm going to do."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Black Velvet' by Alannah Myles, and that means the lovely Ksenia Solo of IFFI is on her way to ringside..."
McCarthy: "And I just LOVE IFFI! Have I mentioned that?"
Tess: "Once or twice. Solo, meanwhile, is making her return to the Asylum after a year away. She was here last September and lost to Kristen Stewart."
O'Dell: "Ksenia into the ring and helped off with the robe by the IFFI corner crew. She's wearing that pitch black number we saw the last time and getting an appreciative reaction from the crowd. And, that's 'Pleasant Nightmare' by Alih Jey pounding through the arena, and here comes 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy..."
Cassie: "There was a time when Front Street's weakest division was flyweight, but no more. Stewart and Meester have both broken through, and you have this girl, who's been impressive as heck, coming up behind them."
O'Dell: "Levy into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that peach number we've seen before..."
McCarthy: "Body's nothing special. Like most of the Dancing Hookers around here..."
O'Dell: "Aaaand we're about ready for some picks. Tess likes Jane. Mac?"
McCarthy: "I ALWAYS favor IFFI against Weirdo's bunch, because IFFI usually beats them!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And, we're underway. Things starting just the way you'd expect. Solo likes to use those legs, and that's the direction she's going right now. She's circling, bouncing, snapping out jabs. Levy likes to work closer, so she's the one doing the stalking right now, showing patience, working the feet."
Cassie: "We mention this a lot, but it's worth mentioning again. Levy played college soccer. She's a heck of an athlete and has great feet. She's very good at cutting the ring. And she'll need to be. Solo can move. I know. I was in the ring with her."
O'Dell: "And, Levy's getting that done early. Jane closing on Ksenia, working body. Solo showing some slickness, though, getting away to open canvas quickly, back to the jab and circle. Very tactical first round, which, of course, is common in first rounds, both girls having some success, but neither able to enforce terms."
McCarthy: "And, that's what this will come down to. If Solo can stay at range and work, she'll beat this kid. Levy has to be able to close to win."
O'Dell: "Not sure I agree with that, Mac, as Jane's not a bad boxer and has shown she can work at various distances well, but, there's no doubt Ksenia wants to work long and that she's most comfortable when she can do that. Coming into the final fifteen seconds of a good, two-way first. Levy forward to whack some body. Solo ties up, slips away, and there's the bell. First to Jane close."
Tess: "10-9, Levy. And, this one figures to be close, so every point may be crucial."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second underway on the same terms. Solo just a blur of motion, circling, reversing, showing plenty of leg. She's doubling and tripling on that quick left jab, peppering Levy with it as Jane tries to cut the ring. Levy slowing, trying to work past the left hand, and that's allowing Solo to keep finding open canvas."
Cassie: "This is good stuff from Ksenia. When you're a fighter who likes to move, you want to have that jab on target to keep the other girl where you want her..."
Tess: "Unless a girl can move like YOU. Then, it doesn't matter if you can slow a girl down or not, she's STILL not catching you."
Cassie: "True. But, there's only one ME..."
McCarthy: "Again, throwing up in my mouth a little..."
O'Dell: "Solo definitely finding rhythm now. She's moving very well and keeping Levy at bay with that springy left hand. Ksenia even stopping for some longer flurries now. She's got Levy on the defensive, standing still and covering up. And, that's absolutely not where Jane wants to be, is it, Mac?"
McCarthy: "No way. Because, not only does she become an easier target, she's not getting anything done on offense."
O'Dell: "And, it is, indeed, almost nothing in this stanza. Levy not looking confused, but she's definitely looking frustrated. Solo calling the tune in there, and it's one that Jane doesn't want to play. Redhead getting touched up in a major way as we roll toward the bell ending the second. There it is, and that's a shutout round for Ksenia Solo."
Tess: "And, we're all even at 19 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Levy making a bit of an adjustment to start the third. Got the hands higher, tucking the chin, quarter crouch, making herself harder to find with that jab. She's continuing to work the feet to close down Solo and bang her, mostly to the body. Ksenia not landing nearly as many jabs as the last round, but she's still scoring and moving well."
Tess: "Nice adjustment, no question. She's getting back in the fight this way after a brutal second round."
O'Dell: "Solo, though, still moving, sticking, playing 'hard to find', and IS hard to find with clean leather. Head and hands always moving along with the feet. Levy very patient, continuing to move and cut, get off heavy once she's done that. But, Ksenia able to continue to keep those exchanges short."
McCarthy: "She's very slick, Solo. That's one thing Scabbo's right about. Maybe the first thing EVER..."
Cassie: "I wonder where Brenda is right now. She's SOMEwhere in the arena..."
McCarthy: "Don't you threaten ME, you LITTLE..."
O'Dell: "Let's calm down, shall we, and concentrate on the ring? Second good, two-way round of the bout so far, with both fighters again able to get some of what they want, but not enough for their respective likings. Levy closing as we near the bell, tenderizing some belly, then landing a sharp hook upstairs. Solo dancing away, and that's it. End of the third. Close. Solo."
Cassie: "And, Ksenia has her first lead, 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Solo right back on her bike to start the third. She's in a good rhythm again, popping out that jab, circling, moving very well, picking off Levy as Jane tries to cut the ring and get to middle distances. All about bringing Ksenia to battle for Jane, while Solo wants to keep the war of movement going. Levy cuts, goes to the belly, and ROCKS SOLO WITH A RIGHT HOOK!"
Cassie: "Solo's legs did a shimmy right there! She's in trouble!"
O'Dell: "Jane right to work on the body, hammering away, now backing Ksenia up with hard shot to the head. Solo wobbly, trying to stabilize the front but can't get it done. Levy routing her, sending her back to the ropes and going to work. Ksenia in a high guard, so Levy takes body, then works back upstairs."
McCarthy: "Solo needs to keep that guard up. She's got to be in survival mode now.'
O'Dell: "And, she most definitely is. Ksenia hanging on as Levy goes to town on that body. Solo crouching some now, trying to lessen the target, but Levy going to uppercuts, forcing Solo back upright. Jane trying to finish this thing as we come down the stretch, but the brunette hanging on desperately, tying up, running clock. And, there's the bell. Shutout, Levy."
Tess: "And, we're even again at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Levy thinking clean up now as we start the fifth. Solo still buzzed, and Jane going after her in a big way. Brunette being squared up and backed up, and beaten up right now. Doesn't have the legs to move effectively, and the redhead is just zeroing in on her and punishing her with both hands."
McCarthy: "Solo needs to find a way to run some clock here. Tie up. Slow this down. Because, she's getting pounded."
O'Dell: "Levy just dialing the aggression higher and higher. We talk about girls who know how to finish all the time, and that instinct is there with Jane Levy. She's on a mission to end this thing right now, and, while she's remaining sound, she is committing on everything, just REEFING punches at Solo and DOWN GOES KSENIA!"
Cassie: "Matter of time. Levy was landing too much hard shot."
O'Dell: "Solo dropped face first to the canvas by a short right hook. Jane to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Solo pushing up to hands and knees. Shaking the head, trying to clear it. Eight. Nine. Can't do it. TEN! It's over! Solo still on all fours as the count passes her by, and your winner by KO5 is 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy!"
Tess: "She can hit for a flyweight, can't she, BFF?"
Cassie: "No question about it. Wiz likes girls with power, and Jane fits that category."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Jane Levy, and, Jane, you had some trouble early, but you got things going in the fourth."
Jane: "She's good, Tess. She can box. She moves very well. She's smart. She was a tough challenge for me, and I knew that coming in. I also knew if I kept working, I could get her. And, I kept working."
Tess: "This was a step up in class for you, and it looked like you handled it."
Jane: "Like I said before the fight, she's one of the better fighters I've been in with, so I had to be on my game. Fortunately, I was."
