Before: Rare battle between up and comers with bright futures—Ross less well known, but came up through the punishing Daytime mill which routinely chews ingénues up and spits them out—Ross with no intention of going back to obscurity. Kelli in yellow sports bra, evergreen adidas terrycloth trunks, Charlotte in white sports bra, light blue adidas trunks, tight ponytail.

During R1: Ross trades hooks with Kelli, disdaining the jab, just jumping in at the brunette and getting her body behind the punches. Williams melting as fist land simultaneously, no question who carried the bigger stick. Kelli on her heels over the last half of the round, looking to slip the hook and tag Ross to the midsection with left hands.

R2,3: Ross walking her girl down and laying on a beating, traps Williams against the ropes, turns her shoulders into punishing left hooks to the jaw a or midsection—Williams covering up and taking it, then clinching or spinning out to continue the free-fall retreat. Kelli fighting with a panicky grimace, getting banged up around the right eyes, and favouring her ribs—Ross lapping it up, clearly enjoying Williams’ discomfort.

R4: Heady Kelli begins bending into short right hands over Charlotte’s hook, falling in with the blonde after bashing her fist hard against Ross’ cheek and the bully stops punching. Williams sets up shop inside, pushing against Ross muscular arms and chopping at her sturdy midriff with compact lefts and rights. Charlotte’s butt meets the ropes for the first time as Kelli walks her back late in the round, working the waist band to the bell.

R5: Ross fiery eyed, comes out flushed and steps into a snapping left hook even as Williams throws her own. Ross shakes off Kelli’s blow, but the blonde’s punch is whippier, better leveraged, and Williams staggers back a step with a worried expression. Ross jumping in, trades hooks again as Kelli’s head swivels while Ross takes her lick in stride, Williams going wobbly butt, gloves coming down, eyes watering—the girls trade hooks a third time and Kelli goes out, taking the shot, reeling forward in the aftermath, then crashing backward to lie stretched out pretty on the mat. Ross looks coolly on, then breaks out into a big smile as she high fives her corner. KO5 Charlotte Ross.

After: Stunning debut for Ross as she blows perky Williams away without revealing much more than a heavy left hand. “Too easy,” says Charlotte. “I’m looking Nia’s way, I’m looking at Fyre, Carmen, Yasmine, I’m putting them all out and taking over this division. Charlotte Ross has arrived!”
