BEFORE:
"Obviously," says Eiza with a devastating smile, "This is a big opportunity for me. Ruah's scalp would be the biggest I've collected. And, I'm going to collect it."
"This girl has a lot of talent, no question," says Daniela with a nod. "But. I'm planning on making a push at the lightweight belts. She's in the way. And, we'll have to do something about that."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's..."
McCarthy: "HORRIBLE AGAIN! This music is...why can't we do Hallowe'en music or something?"
O'Dell (sighing): "That's 'You Will Remember Me', and the lady who sings that song, the lovely Eiza Gonzalez is on her way to ringside looking plenty fetching in her Santanico Pandemonium bikini. Eiza, of course, representing Odds and Ends. She' climbs into the ring and is helped off with the snake...I'm assuming that's a prop..."
Tess: "I'm HOPING that's a prop..."
Cassie: "Calm down. It's a prop."
O'Dell: "Um...that is not Metallica we're now hearing..."
Cassie: "It's not. It's 'La Bruja', which is the theme song for the NEXT lady coming down to the ring in her Santanico Pandemonium bikini, Salma Hayek!"
Tess: "That is, INDEED Salma Hayek and...BFF, what do you KNOW?"
Cassie: "Everything."
McCarthy: "I'm going to get violently ill..."
Cassie: "But, if you mean about THIS, Salma is going to be special guest referee for this bout."
O'Dell: "And THAT'S 'Nothing Else Matters' by Metallica, and, on her way to the ring wearing a form-fitting Elvira costume is 'The Portuguese Princess' herself, Daniela Ruah..."
McCarthy: "Doesn't really have the body to fill that out. Now, I would make a SUPER sexy Elvira..."
O'Dell (sighing): "Ruah into the ring and helped off with the costume by Jewel and Neve, and we're about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Ruah. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Ruah's overrated. This Gonzalez is nothing special, but she DOES have FCBA wins. She'll beat Decker's bestie!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Here we go. Dani quickly to the jab.. Wants to establish that and create the range. As we know, she likes the gun platform stuff. Eiza fights a different style and a very aggressive one for a model. She likes to step to behind the left jab, and that's the direction she's going right now..."
McCarthy: "Last time this kid tried this at Asylum, Arterton knocked her out."
O'Dell: "True enough, but that was a far less experienced Eiza. Besides. Arterton happens to be the reigning lightweight champion. She's knocked a lot of girls out. Eiza showing really good feet in there. She's not just wading in, but working forward, and that's a good idea against a hitter like Ruah."
Tess: "Definitely. She doesn't want to be walking in on Dani."
O'Dell: "Final 30 seconds of an action-packed first. Lots of punches flying, plenty landing. Ruah working her left, trying to create space. Eiza stepping to behind her own left hand. Ten seconds to go and THERE'S A BIG EXCHANGE! Both ladies landed hard shot there. And there's the bell. Close. Eiza."
Cassie: "They keep throwing punches like that, you can throw those cards in the trash can."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second underway on the same terms, and we may be in one of those situations where it's all going to come down to who gets more of what she wants. Does Ruah hold Eiza at range where she can extend on punches, box her, land those hard follow-on rights, or is Gonzalez able to step to."
McCarthy: "And, right now, it's pretty even. Eiza getting to her spots some, and Ruah holding her at bay some."
O'Dell: "Exactly. And, we've got a second consecutive competitive round. Point we can make here, though. Gonzalez still a young fighter. Fewer than ten FCBA fights. She's in there with a very good veteran with plenty of impressive wins and a title fight to her credit. And, she does not look out of her depth."
Cassie: "She looks the exact opposite of that, frankly."
O'Dell: "That, she does. We're coming down the stretch in the second round now. Both fighters trying to force terms, but, neither able to do it. Everybody getting something, but nobody getting everything. Fifteen seconds to go. Ruah lands a nice left and a solid right. Eiza steps forward, digs some body, and there's the bell. Close to Ruah."
Tess: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "We've settled into a pattern now. It's a fight for control of the terms. Gonzalez working forward, Ruah working to keep her at range. And, both fighters having their share of successes. Mac, when you got in fights like this, where you wanted to dictate and had to struggle to do that, what was your thinking about adjustments?"
McCarthy: "I always wanted to force my opponent to adjust. I always liked to stick with what I wanted to do. Sometimes you get to a point where you want to change things up, but I always wanted to do that because I wanted to, not because I had to..."
Cassie: "I think that actually made sense..."
McCarthy: "Of COURSE it...SHUT UP, SCABBO!"
O'Dell: "Good, technical boxing going on right now, gang, and I've got to say that Gonzalez is impressing me by being able to hold her own with Ruah doing this. Dani's a very good fighter, Top Twenty for some time now, and, for a young fighter without nearly as much experience, this is really good stuff."
Tess: "Agreed, Jenny. I've always liked Ruah as a fighter. She's had a title fight and been in with some really good fighters. To box with her like this...you have some tools in the chest. No question."
O'Dell: "Final seconds of the third. Good round for both fighters, frankly. Ruah a good combination there, her best of the fight so far. And EIZA RESPONDS WITH ONE OF HER OWN! Good right from Ruah and there's a solid one from Gonzalez and there's the bell. Glove tap at the end of the round, which goes to Eiza close."
Tess: "And, Gonzalez back on top 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Back to work in the fourth with Gonzalez still aggressive, trying to work forward behind that left jab. Daniela doing a good job of holding her right now, getting her own left on, making Eiza take follow on right hands. Gonzalez trying to get off square but Ruah keeping her there and landing a solid right hand..."
Cassie: "Gonzalez does not want to be where she is right now. She does not want to be there..."
O'Dell: "AND DOWN GOES EIZA! Cassie called that one! Gonzalez out on the end of Ruah's right hands and Dani drops her to her back with a nasty straight right. Ruah to a neutral corner. Hayek's count at three. Four. Five. Six. Eiza sits up. Seven. Eight. Gonzalez to her feet. Referee will give her the mandatory and waive Ruah forward..."
McCarthy: "Kid needs to play this very smart, because Ruah's going to look to finish right now."
O'Dell: "And, that's exactly what she's doing. Daniela boring in, landing those hard left jabs, following on with rights, backing Eiza up. Gonzalez quickly to the ropes and taking a thumping. Thirty seconds to go in the third. Gut check time for the Odds and Ends fighter. Gonzalez hanging on as Dani bangs away. And, she's going to make it to the bell. There it is. Big round for Ruah, but Eiza still alive."
Tess: "38-37, Daniela after four."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Ruah in seek and destroy mode as we start the fifth. It's Dani forward and Eiza back. Gonzalez keeping the guard up, looking to counter if she can, but she's wobbly and in some serious trouble. Ruah patient, working the left hand, setting up the hard rights. Gonzalez taking a lot of shell, Mac..."
McCarthy: "She is, and she's proving she can, so give her credit for that. If you're going to be a factor in the FCBA, especially at the higher weights, you have to be able to take a punch."
O'Dell: "That, you do. A weak chin is going to do in a girl at this level just about every time. Eiza not looking like that's a problem, because she's taking some serious leather right now. For her part, Daniela definitely looking to finish, but she'll settle for a clean up, and she's getting that at the moment..."
Tess: "And, piling up hurt, which never hurts a fighter, either."
O'Dell: "Down the stretch in the fourth. Ruah in control. Gonzalez getting the legs back some, though. She's moving better, able to slip some punches now. Eiza's maybe come through the crisis. It's cost her some points and maybe some legs later in the fight, but she's going to survive the setback. There's the bell. Ruah wide."
Cassie: "48-46, Daniela now building on that lead."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Eiza showing something a little different now in the fifth. Not working forward, not staying outside. She's turning. This isn't a circle. No dancing or legging. She's just using her feet to slowly circle right, away from Ruah's power. And, she's also staying off square, making Daniela work to get the left on..."
McCarthy: "This is a nice adjustment by the kid. I like this."
O'Dell: "It's definitely working at the moment. Ruah having a tough time getting anything going offensively, and Eiza able to get to her spots and get leather home. Wonder if the Odds and Ends management put this in their back pocket for this fight. Looks that way, and, if they did, that's pretty good stuff."
Cassie: "Thing is, though. Ruah WILL adjust to it. She's a veteran fighter, been in there with champions. You aren't going to flummox her with this for long."
O'Dell: "Probably not, but this is the time when Gonzalez needs to stop the bleeding and grab a round, and that's exactly what she's doing. She's gone from losing two in a row and giving up a knockdown to taking control and winning the fifth round cleanly. There's the bell, and it's Eiza solid, no doubt about it."
Tess: "57-56, Ruah with four to go."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Seventh begins with Eiza continuing to turn Ruah. Daniela making an adjustment to it now, throwing the jab to the outside, sort of herding Gonzalez in, allowing the older brunette to get the right hand on. Eiza tricky, though, looking to pick the lefts off with the right glove, pop a jab in response."
Cassie: "Good stuff from both fighters, Jenny. And, again, no surprise Ruah can do this, but credit to Gonzalez, who's showing something right now."
O'Dell: "Good, back and forth stuff. Ruah more comfortable this stanza, but Gonzalez sticking with what she's doing, because it's still working for her. Eiza very accurate with that return jab, able to get right hands home off it. For her part, Dani getting some hard shot on as well. Nobody hurt, but good stuff landing."
Tess: "You can hear some of that stuff, despite the headsets and the crowd noise and the fact that they're in the middle of the ring."
O'Dell: "Down the stretch we come. Twenty-five seconds to go in the seventh. Very close round. Both girls landing a fairly high percentage this round and neither able to pull away from the other. Ten seconds left. Good right hand Ruah. Gonzalez hooks the body. And there's the bell. Nothing in it. Draw."
McCarthy: "And, Ruah holding on to that one point lead, 67-66 with three to go."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "On even terms again as we start the eighth. This has turned into quite a bout, with both fighters looking good in there and, while both have had moments of control, neither being able to take over the fight. Ruah landing that left a bit more in the early going of this one and that means she can get the right hand on..."
Cassie: "Gonzalez showing a lot of quickness, though. Slipping some of those rights, picking off others. But, Ruah landing her share."
O'Dell: "And, it's changing the complexion of thins just a bit. Daniela beginning to get the edge as things go on. She's getting more hard shot on target, slowing down Eiza's circle, squaring her up more. Gonzalez firing back in counter, but coming off second best to Ruah's heavier shot. Good right hand Ruah and A GREAT COUNTER BY EIZA STAGGERS RUAH!"
Tess: "How did she ship that?"
O'Dell: "Now Gonzalez all in. She's banging away at Dani. Ruah backed into the ropes and Gonzalez just letting the hands go now, trying to end this thing. Salma looking in very closely as we roll into the final 20 seconds of the round. GOOD right from Eiza and IT'S OVER! Hayek jumping in between the fighters and she's stopped it! And, your winner by TKO8 is Eiza Gonzalez!"
McCarthy: "See? This is what happens any time a decent fighter comes in here! A Dancing Hooker goes down!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Eiza Gonzalez, and, Eiza, this is a big win for you..."
Eiza: "Yes, it is, Tess. The biggest of my career so far. But, remember I said this. It will not be the biggest for long. Not for long."
Tess: "Clearly, you have big plans..."
Eiza: "Very big. And management has big plans for me. I can't wait for what's going to happen next."
