BEFORE: A couple of veterans square off in the opening fight of the night and while Emma Bunton's BBU career seems to be heading towards the exit door, Hannah Spearritt vows to dish out a punishment or two before she hangs up her gloves for good. The singer-turned-actress made a successful comeback to home soil in July when she knocked out the Romanian dancefloor princess Inna and Denise van Outen reckons Bunton is a much easier opponent considering her seven fight losing streak.
Emma Bunton wears a white sports bra, red hotpants and red gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Hannah Spearritt wears a black sports bra, violet knickers and matching violet gloves. Shoulder lenght blonde hair straight. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1: Hannah wants to immediately stamp her authority on the slumping blonde and charges at her from the word go; she swings plenty of leather over the top but misses the target and allows the older woman to stack her up on the body which briefly allows Bunton to stay on top. However Spearritt doesn't yield an inch even when getting punched up the middle and loops a bruising response that crashes into Emma's face and breaks down her jabbing stride. Both women tangle in the center of the ring with more feisty leather assault thereafter but the precision of their attacks undoes the mental attitude and results in a fruitless exchange that predictably ends in a lenghty stalemate to close out the round.
Round 2: Emma tries to add some mobility into her gear but is unable to match the younger blonde and gets whacked straight up the middle when Hannah leans on her and triggers instant close range assault that overwhelms the older woman after a while. Bunton refuses to back off at first but when her lips get slammed with a double cross hooking route, she wobbles on her heels and fails to embrace the follow up drill that has Spearritt romping into her chest with a vicious series of uppercuts. The former Spice Girl gets clobbered back to the ropes as she keeps looking for her balance but can't stay out of Hannah's leather charge and bellows out behind a high earmuff come the final minute with the younger blonde scoring easy points against the subdued foe.
Round 3: Spearritt ups the tempo of her attacks and repeatedly outworks the visibly immobile Bunton who seems to be looking for an emergency plan but just has to adapt to her opponent's high-octane assault. She's not in a position to withstand it though and gets pummelled back to the ropes on the minute mark which allows Hannah to pick her off with more jabbing assault. The sheer ammount of punches breaks Bunton' resilience and come the next thirty odd seconds, her head snaps back repeatedly and slumps the older blonde on soft knees. She aches out her troubles but when she tries to stick in a proper response, Spearritt beats her for a clubbing hook on the ear and dumps onto the turnbuckle where she proceeds to clean out shop and leaves Emma in all sorts of bother at the bell.
Round 4: Bunton remains exposed under the fellow blonde's close range heat and now the precision of Spearritt's attacks rips one lump after another on the embattled North Londoner's face. Emma gets rooted to the spot and offers nothing back as she sways on jelly knees while Hannah just keeps the hits coming and oh-so predictably CHOPS THE OLDER BLONDE DOWN just shy of the one minute mark. Emma collapses flat on her back and rolls onto her side before making a desperate surge for survival. She wobbles back upright at eight but sobs straight into the referee's ear and the man in charge knows all about her woeful cold streak so he spares her more unneccessary damage. Cruel TKO Hannah Spearritt!!!
AFTER: There's a reason why Emma Bunton doesn't attract the Main Events anymore and quite frankly she's among pure jobbers at this stage of her career. The losing streak extends to seven and Denise van Outen openly calls for Kate Garraway and Mr. V to retire the former fan favorite from the ring and install her in the Lioness Club press office. It's widely rumoured that Geri Halliwell is set to join Mel B. as co-trainer once she retires but the Spice Girls' heyday is truly gone and someone really has to explain it to the banged up Emma personally before it's too late!
Meanwhile Hannah Spearritt's comeback rolls along; her acting career isn't perhaps so compelling as her teenage S Club 7 days at the turn of the century but she remains a solid gatekeeper name and looks set to cause more problems to any aspiring flyweight around the country. Denise van Outen would like to see the Norfolk blonde square off against some of the ACB contenders in the near future but Kear's Kats coach Gail Kim remains silent on those plans for the time being.
Final result: Hannah Spearritt def. Emma Bunton TKO4.
