BEFORE:
"Things did not go as planned on my first trip here to Philly," says Sam with a shake of the head. "But, I've gotten some experience over here now, and I'm ready to show everyone what Sam Cooke can REALLY do!"
"I've fought a lot of girls from the UK this year," says Kat with a smile. "Maybe management's trying to set me up for a run at the BBU bantamweight title. Sam's as tough as any of them, but the result's going to be the same. My hand in the air."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "We're back at ringside and that's 'Another Saturday Night' by another Sam Cooke..."
McCarthy: "See, I still don't understand this..."
Cassie: "And, as a panel and a nation, we remain shocked by that..."
McCarthy: "Listen, you little..."
O'Dell: "Now, calm down, Mac, and let's check out the lovely Sam Cooke as she comes down the aisle and climbs into the ring. Cooke clims into the ring and is helped off with the robe to reveal that green number we've seen before and a body that has the crowd buzzing more than a little..."
Tess: "And, if Mac says she couldn't be a centerfold, we're going to send her to the eye doctor right now..."
McCarthy: "SHUT. UP. WALMART!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, and have a listen to 'I Don't Feeling Like Dancing' by Scissor Sisters, and that can only mean that Kat 'The Rack' Dennings is on her way to ringside..."
Tess: "And, the bantamweight division at Front Street opening up quite a bit with Pink slumping. There's room in behind Allison Mack, and Dennings is one of three young bantams, along with Chloe Bennet and Leven Rambin, to be looking to take advantage of that opening..."
O'Dell: "Kat into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that curve-hugging black two-piece we've seen before, and the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess favors Kat. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Yet another Dancing Hooker opponent with NO FCBA wins. Even Campbell's little project can beat a girl like that."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And, here we go. No surprises early as we get right into the phone booth. Cooke showed us she doesn't mind working in close quarters and banging body when she fought Pink here earlier this year, and we all know Kat likes the inside stuff, so you had to expect we'd get here sooner rather than later..."
McCarthy: "See, if I were training Cooke, we'd have had a different fight plan. She's got reach on Dennings, and she should be using it."
O'Dell: "At the moment, that's not the game plan. Instead, blonde and brunette banging inside. Lots of body work early. Also not a surprise after what we saw from Sam earlier this year and what we've seen from Kat throughout her career. These are two sturdy girls, and I suspect both will be able to ship a lot of shell to the body before it has an effect."
Tess: "Looks like we're going to find out, because the upstairs work is minimal right now."
O'Dell: "Just enough to keep everybody honest. Coming down the stretch in the first. It's been a back-and-forth round and it's still that way with twenty seconds to go. Bantams banging body, hooking the ribs, thumping the mid-section. Ten seconds left. Head on shoulder stuff right to the bell. Close first to Kat."
Cassie: "And, she leads 10-9."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second underway and it's like Cooke's corner got a text from Mac. Sam throwing a curveball early as she sets up behind the jab and makes Dennings work to close. Sam showing very good feet here, as she jabs and moves, landing good left hands, not allowing Kat to get the distance she wants..."
McCarthy: "And, she's not letting her square up, either. This is exactly the fight plan she should be using."
O'Dell: "It's working for the moment, anyway, because Cooke's gotten control of the fight. She's making Dennings take leather on the outside, scoring points as Kat tries to close. And the brunette not having a lot of success working past the blonde's defenses right now. Instead, Sam getting much the best of things."
Cassie: "I like the footwork from the blonde. She's not dancing or anything. But, she's moving very well and angling very well."
O'Dell: "Dennings keeps working. Has the guard up, bobbing and weaving, trying to find some weaknesses in Cooke's defenses. There aren't many, at least at the moment. Sam doing an excellent job with that left hand and then following on with solid rights. Final seconds tick away in the second and there's the bell. Cooke. And by a large margin, too."
Tess: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Into the third on the same terms. Cooke wants distance, Dennings wants to close. Now, though, Kat beginning to get forward. Slipping the jab, picking it off, angling past Cooke's defenses and getting in her grill. From there, it's body work again. Sam tying up, wrestling around in there, hooking body with the free hand..."
Cassie: "This went from tactical to physical very, very quickly."
O'Dell: "That it did. And it's getting EXTREMELY physical right now, as both bantams dig body, lever with shoulders, tie up, shove off and A GOOD RIGHT FROM SAM! Cooke caught Dennings with an uppie and Kat's buzzed. Dennings quickly covering up and now Cooke going to town with a barrage of heavy stuff!"
McCarthy: "She's got her! Finish her now! Finish her now!"
O'Dell: "Cooke looking to do just that. Sam all in, backing up Kat, pinning her to the cables, and working her over. Dennings keeping the guard high, putting the body on sale. Sam going there on occasion, but she's all about the upstairs right now. Winging away looking to end this thing. Ref looking in, but Kat doing enough to get her to the bell. There it is. End of the third. But, it's Cooke wide."
Tess: 'And the blonde has the lead 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins with Cooke after Dennings aggressively. Kat holding ground, banging back, and we've got quite the firefight going here! Both fighters loading up and letting the hands go. Blonde trying to consolidate, brunette trying to firm up the defenses and get back in the fight and THERE'S A RIGHT HAND FROM KAT AND SAM'S HURT!"
Cassie: "Short right hook set up by the left jab!"
O'Dell: "And now Kat going all in like Sam did the last round. Dennings hammering away with both hands, backing up a dazed Cooke. Sam wobbly, but those sturdy legs are holding her up. Cooke's got the guard high and Kat going body now, going to try to bring it down. Back upstairs and she's got Sam on the ropes..."
Tess: "Literally and figuratively..."
O'Dell: "Cooke keeping the hands high, rolling with punches, jabbing back in spots. She's hanging on here as Dennings continues to get off with lots of heavy shot. Kat has to be wondering what it takes to put Sam down, because she's landed some really solid stuff, but she can't find the 'off' button and she won't find it in the fourth. There's the bell. Kat wide, but Cooke still standing."
McCarthy: "38-38 now, but that was poor strategy by Cooke. Should have gone back to range and worked there."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth underway and now it's Kat applying the pressure. Cooke giving some ground as Dennings walks forward, banging away to head and body. Cooke trying to jab for space, but it's not working at this point. Brunette walking through anything the blonde throws at the moment, getting off lusty..."
McCarthy: "A well-placed counter now could stop all that noise in a hurry."
O'Dell: "Kat in Sam's grill now. Cooke tying up, trying to slow the offensive and THERE'S A RIGHT HOOK AND DOWN GOES COOKE! Kat landed that one pretty clean and Sam dropped to her back. Dennings to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Six. And Sam rolls to her hands and knees. Eight. Nine. And Cooke pushes to her feet..."
Tess: "OK, that's impressive, because that was a heck of a shot she just took..."
O'Dell: "Referee gives the blonde the mandatory and waives Dennings forward. And Kat all OVER Sam now. She's pounding away, pinning the blonde to the ropes. Referee looking in, not going to watch too much more of this. Sam trying to tie up. Kat stacks her, lands another big flurry that wobbles Cooke and IT'S OVER! Referee has seen enough! He leaps between the fighters and bundles Cooke to safety, and your winner by TKO 5 is Kat 'The Rack' Dennings!"
Cassie: "I can't believe she's still standing after the stuff she got hit with. About 80 percent of the bantams in the FCBA would have gone down and stayed there."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Kat Dennings, and, Kat, a lot of big punches landed tonight..."
Kat (nodding): "No surprise. She can hit and so can I. She's not afraid to let the hands go, and I'm not either. And, respect to her for getting up in that last round, because that was the best shot I landed all night, and she took it."
Tess: "But, eventually, you landed too many..."
Kat (nodding): "Exactly. I knew I could hurt her, and I knew if I hurt her I could finish. But, I will say it wasn't easy to do it. Not easy at all."
