BEFORE:
"Getting a chance here at Asylum was a pleasant surprise," says Elizabeth with that gorgeous smile. "But, I'm not just happy to be here. I've come here to win, and that's just what I'm going to do."
"Look," says Jane with a nod, "If she didn't have ability, she'd never have beaten a girl like Fonseca. I'll have to be on my game tonight. And, I will be."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Anything Can Happen' by Ellie Goulding you hear, but it's not Ellie coming to ringside, it's the lovely Elizabeth Henstridge of Girls Friday..."
Cassie: "And, as Jane pointed out in the pre-fight, Henstridge coming off a pretty impressive win over Lyndsey Fonseca to break her FCBA maiden. She's got some talent and she's got good management. My suspicion is, we're going to be hearing a lot more about Henstridge."
O'Dell: "Elizabeth into the ring and helped off with the robe by the Girls Friday corner crew and she's wearing a lovely burgundy two-piece that shows off just how hard she's been working to get ready for this fight..."
McCarthy: "A little skinny, but not bad."
O'Dell: "And, that's 'Pleasant Nightmare' by Alih Jey behind us, and that can mean only one thing, 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy, is on her way to ringside."
Tess: "Levy is a girl that Front Street's been very high on right from the moment she began fighting here in Philly. Very athletic. A former college soccer player. Has all the tools. Very smart. And she's a big hitter for the weight. A lot to like..."
McCarthy: "And, Weirdo and his second-rate training crew will screw her up just like they did Jamie Lynn Spears and so many others."
O'Dell: "Jane into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that peach bikini she likes. And, we're about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Jane. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Again, this girl has an FCBA win, so she'll beat the Dancing Hooker."
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And, the first is underway. Henstridge out slowly, carefully. She wants to work the left jab, Range find, get some intel together. Levy bobbing the head, stepping forward, digging a little body. Jane the more aggressive fighter early on, no surprise, that, as she's had a lot more work at the top level than Elizabeth..."
Cassie: "Exactly. Sometimes less experienced fighters want to come out and blitz, but that's usually a bad idea. Henstridge a smart cookie from what we've seen. She's going to fight smart."
O'Dell: "Definitely doing that right now. Levy, meanwhile, getting into rhythm. She's past the brunette's jab and working the body. Jane loves to work downstairs, and you're seeing that now. Henstridge not having any. Tying up. Forcing a break. Getting distance again and making Levy work forward."
Tess: "Like you said, Cassie, smart stuff. And, impressive for a girl with just a handful of top-level fights."
O'Dell: "Final seconds of the first ticking off. Levy in tight again, working those abs. Good thing Henstridge is in shape for this one, because Jane appears to be planning an effort at reduction. Again, the brunette ties. Referee steps in to break and they're back at range. Not for long. Levy forward, bangs some ribs, and there's the bell. Close first to Jane."
McCarthy: "Not a bad start for the Henstridge kid, though."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins with more of the same. Jane wants to close, Liz wants distance. Henstridge immediately tying Levy up as she steps forward now. Jane trying to shove off, but the brunette has her tied nicely and the referee will step in and break. Henstridge showing good lateral movement now..."
McCarthy: "I was just going to make that point, Jenny. She needs to move her feet more, and she's doing it. Making Levy work to line her up and close in."
O'Dell: "Even a bit of a drop step now for Henstridge. Really liking what I'm seeing from her tonight, and, again, that can't be a surprise, because you don't beat someone like Fonseca unless you have some skills. Henstridge really quite the manager in there. It's all about controlling with her. She wants to use the jab to dictate distance and pace..."
Cassie: "And, if you can dictate those two things, it's going to make life very difficult for your opponent."
O'Dell: "Into the final 30 seconds. Levy forward, bangs some body. Hendstidge ties up again. Jane punching free, but finally the brunette ties her to the point that the referee steps in. Liz now has her space and she's back to the jab. Five seconds left in another close round. There's the bell. Henstridge."
Tess: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Terms set now as we roll into the third. Henstridge wants to box at range. Levy wants to close and work some body. Jane slipping past the jab now, working the ribs and a QUICK RIGHT HOOK FROM LIZ and Jane wobbled and DOWN GOES LEVY after a SHARP three-punch flurry from Henstridge!"
McCarthy: "I TOLD you! I TOLD you she'd beat the Dancing Hooker!"
O'Dell: "Levy on hands and knees. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Jane to her feet. Referee going to give her the mandatory and waive Henstridge forward. Elizabeth calmly, coolly efficiently going to work. She's not going all in, not getting sloppy. She's working that left hand, backing up Levy with rights."
Cassie: "Really impressive for a less-experienced fighter. So often they get an opponent in trouble, then get too excited and just start winging."
O'Dell: "Not Liz. She's fighting very efficiently, working Jane back to the ropes and now letting go with some heavy flurries! Brunette all about the finish as she's stepping into punches, looking to find the 'off' switch. Levy, though, rolling with, slipping, catching punches on her guard, going to ride this out to the bell. There it is. Jane still standing, but a HUGE round for Henstridge."
Tess: "And, Elizabeth on the lead 29-27 after three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Henstridge wants to come forward early, consolidate the gains from last round. Jane not having it, however. Sturdy redhead has solidified her front and she's holding canvas. Henstridge unconcerned. She adjusts quickly. Holds her own ground instead of trying to advance, and we're right back on the terms we had the first two rounds."
Tess: "More impressive stuff from Liz. How often do you see a fighter try to push an offensive long after it's bogged down? Henstridge too smart for that."
O'Dell: "Levy's clearly got the legs back. Steps in under the brunette's guard and works the abs. Little grimace there from the Girls Friday beauty as that body work starting to add up. But, she quickly ties up. Forces the break, and we're back to punching range. Levy quickly slipping forward again and banging some ribs before Henstridge can tie up."
Cassie: "Levy's just built for this mode of attack. Again, a former college athlete. She has great feet. And you're seeing that as she slips forward."
O'Dell: "Very quick, no question. And she's under the Henstridge guard again and working body. Liz tying up quickly. Jane thumping ribs with the free hand. Referee breaks. Henstridge back to work with the left. Again, Jane works past and bangs some body. Liz ties up. Referee steps in to break, and there's the bell. Close round. Levy."
McCarthy: "Henstridge still ahead, though, 38-37."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Levy getting more aggressive now as we move into the fifth. She wants to get more physical with the brunette. Liz still wants to box, though, and she's moving the feet, using the jab, trying to create the space to do that. Right now, though, Jane not having any. She's getting forward, crowding, working body."
Cassie: "And, that body work starting to have an effect. You can see Henstridge wincing when some of those punches are landing."
O'Dell: "Liz tying up again, trying to force a break. Levy punching free, and she BUNCHES UP LIZ WITH A NASTY BODY SHOT and DOWN GOES HENSTRIDGE! Hook to the midsection hurt the brunette and a short uppercut to the chin dropped her to her back! Referee sends Levy to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five..."
McCarthy: "I think that punch was LOW! She must be working with that cheater CAMPBELL!"
O'Dell: "It was not low. Henstridge rolls to hands a knees, one glove still cupping her midsection. Seven. Eight. Brunette to her feet. She's hurting, but she's standing. Referee gives her the mandatory and he waives Levy forward. Henstridge covering up and Jane going right to the body, hammering away trying to bring that guard down. Liz won't punk, though. She clinches, hanging on both literally and figuratively. Jane shoves off, lands a nice flurry to the head that backs the brunette up. Henstridge in trouble, but she's going to survive the round. Five seconds left. Good right from Levy, but there's the bell."
Tess: "And Levy's back on top, 47-46. But, she might regret not being able to finish."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Second half begins with an aggressive Jane Levy. Redhead working forward, banging body, then going upstairs. She's got Henstridge in retreat at the moment. Liz's legs not exactly steady right now, but the brunette's game. She's countering in spots, tying up Levy when she can, doing everything in her power to slow Jane down."
McCarthy: "If that bought-and-paid-for referee would call some of these low blows that Dancing Hooker is throwing..."
O'Dell: "Again, nothing has been low, but the body work having its effect. Henstridge grimacing every time one lands now, and plenty are landing. Jane just THUMPING those shots to the ribs and abs. Henstridge tying up the head, but Jane shoving her off and DOUBLES HER UP WITH A LEFT HOOK TO THE MIDSECTION AND DROPS HER WITH A RIGHT UPPERCUT!"
Cassie: "Not sure which one of those punches did the most damage, because both were NASTY."
O'Dell: "Henstridge on her right side, gloves at her midsection. Referee's count at three. Four. Liz rolls to her hands and knees. Six. Seven. Henstridge sinks back to the canvas! Nine. TEN! It's OVER! Despite her best efforts, the brunette can't get off the canvas, and it's over! And your winner by KO 6 is 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy!"
Tess: "Body work paid off in the end, because, I think Henstridge's head was clear enough for her to get up, but she was knocked out to the body."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Jane Levy, and, Jane, she gave you some trouble tonight. Were you surprised?"
Jane (shaking her head): "Not at all. Like I said pre-fight, I knew I'd have to be on my game tonight. She's a talented girl. A smart fighter. She's going to beat a lot of girls before she's done."
O'Dell: "It's been a big night for the Front Street flys so far. Looks like what used to be one of the stable's weakest divisions isn't anymore..."
Jane (nodding): "No, it isn't. We have a good group of flys here. And, I'm not as experienced as some. But, I'm as good as any."
