Shailene Woodley vs Piper Perabo
(Words: Bazz / Results: Lookout!)

Before: “I think that Piper has been pretty darn tough to beat over the past two years. Dormer, Bellisaro and Benson, that’s pretty tough stuff, good victories. She’s a dangerous puncher and she’s quick. I’ve watched enough of Cassie Scerbo and Bridgy Regs and taken enough punishment sparring with Tracy Spiradakos to know how dangerous a pit bull with speed can be. Yet all this is window dressing for me. My job is to respect a fighter when it’s deserved and then knock her around the ring until she falls. That’s what I plan on doing tonight.” Shailene reflects as her body sways up at the podium while she addresses the media.

“She’s got potential that’s for sure but she’s been on the shelf over at Bazz. I don’t think that there’s enough work here to make much of a judgement beyond she doesn’t have enough experience to get the job done tonight. I’m going to knock Shailene down a notch or two and make the climb up that ladder to a title shot that much tougher to achieve. Oh and Shailene thanks for putting me in with those Bazz girls, that’s good company but you can forget about any pleasantries in this ring tonight.” Piper states matter of factly.

Piper in all white, bikini, gloves and shoes while Shailene is a study in contrast wearing all black including a pair of shiny black calf boots. Both have their hair long and loose.
Rd 1 Both girls out cautiously. Each looking almost timid as they circle each other. Then like a flash Woodley strikes. She hops into Perabo landing a stiff left jab and a solid right cross staggering the dirty blonde fighter. Piper stepping into fence post holes trying to keep away from Woodley. Shailene delighted to have such an early break moves in and starts to blast away on her nearly helpless opponent. Piper up against the ropes. Her dukes are up trying to offer some sort of protection while Woodley punches to the gut and Piper tries to shake the cobwebs caused by the first assault. Piper throwing some weak punches out at Woodley while the Bazz girl has moved upstairs throwing crisp jabs at Perabo’s face. Piper now going with a complete defensive posture, hands are up at her face and she’s bobbing back and forth against the ropes until mercifully the round comes to an end.

Rd 2 Shailene comes out strong again. She’s jabbing and dancing all around Piper hoping to draw her out and get her to make another mistake. Piper a little timid at first but she’s not one to be intimidated by any fighter. She steps up and lands a couple of excellent jabs to Shailene’s nose and follows up with a side arm right hand to the gut causing Woodley to double over. She lands one more right hand before Woodley recovers and smacks the Notorious girl with her own right hand. The two girls are toe to toe now, hammer and tongs, hands flying at one another. The results are a roaring crowd and both fighters sending out punishing blows. Shailene trying to get at Piper’s head with everything she has while Piper stays low pummeling at the Woodley’s midsection. Piper getting the best of this exchange and when the bell rings it’s clear that she’s recovered from a very shaky first round and taken this one close.

Rd 3 Both fighters very content to keep up the punishing pace of the previous round. Within a few seconds each fighter is swinging with as much gusto as they can muster. Shailene takes a step back as Piper connects with a couple of more buggywhips to the Bazz girl’s side. Just as it looks like Perabo might connect together two good rounds Woodley counters with a right hand to the jaw that spins Piper up against the ropes. Shailene at it again with another opening given up by Piper. She zooms in on Piper snapping out some very impressive jabs that knock her head back. Crowd on their feet again sensing blood in the water. Piper fighting back with a vengeance bulldogging her way into Woodley’s body and landing more shots to the body. Yet Shailene is moving right by Piper’s punches and connecting to the head with regularity. The round ends with Shailene bouncing back to her corner looking none the worse for wear with Piper showing slight signs of wear from the first three rounds.

Rd 4 Both fighters circling each other for a moment seeming to take a break from the fast paced beat downs of the previous two rounds. Shailene jabbing at a much slower pace looking for an opening, using her reach advantage while Piper continues to pick her punches down low hoping to breakdown Shailene’s rock solid torso. Girls are clinching and taking short uppercuts and crosses until the ref breaks things up. Slow dancing in a fight is not exciting until Piper reaches down and with a thud connects to Woodley’s rib cage. Piper immediately picks up the pace and starts pounding Shailene’s left side with an array of right hand punches forcing the Bazz girl to finally back down. Woodley looking for refuge up against the ropes covers up and tries to counter with her long jab but Piper is in strong landing short powerful punches to the body while the ref looks on closely. For Shailene the round’s end can’t come quick enough and she limps over to her corner when the bell rings. Meanwhile Piper strides back with a new confidence after punching her way back into the fight.

Rd 5 Piper is intent on keeping things slower and methodical now. She doesn’t see any advantage to stepping into a fast paced fight the rest of the way, playing into Shailene’s hands who is looking to dance on the outskirts landing jabs and staying out of harm’s way. Both girls are circling until Piper lunges in looking to Joe Frasier her way back into Woodley’s midsection by bobbing and weaving to avoid Shailene’s insanely quick jabs. After one attack Piper tries again and Woodley moves with her left hand only to launch a right hand cross and PIPER”S HURT! Dirty blonde haired beauty is stricken as the right catches her flush on cheek. Shailene is relentless now. It looks as if she is simply ignoring any punch that Perabo can throw so that she can be on the offensive and inflict more damage. More long range bombs thrown by Woodley until DOWN GOES PIPER! Another right hand sneak through catching Piper just above the eye. She staggers and then scrambles right back to her feet. She takes the standing eight count right at the end of the round giving Shailene no time to press the issue and end the fight.

Rd 6 Piper looking game as she reaches center ring. She’s a strong, smart fighter as good as anyone in the league at withstanding punishment and then finding an edge using it to her advantage and coming out of a fight on top. Unfortunately there just seems to be too much Woodley to pull it off, too much speed, too much youthful exuberance. Woodley stalks Perabo into a corner and snaps off two crisp well placed jabs catching her on the jaw and forehead and Piper is right back where she started from. Another jab and then a right uppercut and DOWN GOES PIPER AGAIN! This time there’s no doubt. Piper won’t be beating the count as she sits on her fanny staring blankly out into space as the ref quickly gets to ten. It’s all over! Shailene Woodley wins with a 6th round KO!

After: “Hey she’s a very tough girl. Like I said, you can put her in with Cassie, Bridgy and Trace! I’m not sure if you could get four tougher fighters than that! You start a club with the four of them and you can call it Bulldozer Girls or something like that! As for me I have to move on. 2017 is going to be a very big year for Bazz bantams and I’ll be darned if I’m not going to be a part of it! You hear that Pointy! I’m bringing it!” Shailene’s compliments of her foe, Piper are well received while the pronouncement of her new year’s goals send a message to every other bantam in the league.
