Barbara Palvin versus Monika Jagaciak
(Words: ABC / Results: Lookout!)

 Pre-fight:
Barbara Palvin took a big step earlier in the month, defeating Phoebe Tonkin by KO5, and she is desperately hoping it may be the start of something new as she hasn’t won two fights in a row since signing with the FCBA. Fans of Palvin’s remain hopeful tonight as Barbie faces fresh newcomer Monika Jagaciak in what is set to be an entertaining battle of gorgeous 23-year-old models.

Monika Jagaciak makes her debut here tonight, a result of both the New Faces theme of January PPVs and the hard work of ABC Scouting Director Hilarie Burton.

“I’m excited!” Jagaciak exclaimed prior to the bout. “Nervous, but very excited. I know I’m new, but Barbara hasn’t been around all that long, so I think I can match it with her in the ring. It will be great to see what it’s like to fight in front of all of the FCBA fans, anyway. Thanks to Ms Burton for getting me this shot.”

Barbara was also looking forward to the opportunity presented. “This is a great chance for me to build some momentum. Things have been touch and go since I started, but I feel like I’m learning, and I’ve just got to find my rhythm. The fight against Phoebe felt fantastic and I feel like I found a little groove halfway through that bout. I hope I can carry it over now. That’s been the hard part.”

Round 1:
Palvin keen to get stuck in right away, as she does, and she takes fresh Jagaciak a little by surprise with her early aggression, a left bomb bouncing off of Monika’s skull and forcing her to sidestep clear of the follow ups with serious gusto.

Barbara follows, trying for more of the same, and Monika holds the guard high and tight this time, absorbing the impact, though staggering from it. Then a straight right finds shocked Jagaciak chin, and while it wobbles her, it also sends her into retaliation mode. Monika fires a right straight back that pops onto Barbara’s jawline, and the crowd is up already as it seems we could have an all-out slug fest between these two babes.

Monika tightens the guard and starts moving more now though, retaliating a little less through the last minute of the round as Barbara keeps coming. A few defensive jabs keep Barbie guessing, but the heavier shots are certainly Palvin’s and she seems to have a slight upper hand as each hardworking lightweight takes a necessary seat after an energetic first round.

Round 2:
Barbara tries to open with her favored hail mary overhand, and the new model isn’t so dim, Monika reading Palvin like a book and ducking the shot to crack her left glove into Barbie’s side, causing a little grief from Palvin and a roar from the crowd. The follow up is a rising right that glances off of Barbara’s jawline, and the ABC beauty may have gotten a little lucky there, just wobbling her frame out of the way of the bulk of that dangerous shot.

Palvin tries to shuffle herself out of the way now so she can reset, the newbie perhaps scaring her with that counter. Monika follows and rips big sweeping hooks high, but Barbara is shuffling back quickly and successfully blocks the couple of shots that she doesn’t evade. Barbara is set with the guard by the time Monika catches her, blocking a couple more high crosses and shooting the right jab into Jagaciak’s face, leather bouncing off of cute nose. Monika looks startled, only for a moment, before ramming leather into Barbara’s flat tummy, and even rising a hook a little high, jumping full Palvin jugs.

Barbie isn’t so happy about that, but her responding right cross is ducked and Monika jabs to face now a few more times before the bell is sounded and the ladies allowed to take a break. Lots of energy expended in the second round as well and it’s a good thing these girls are so young and fit, because this is not how the text book would suggest pacing your energy reserves.

Round 3:
Monika Jagaciak starting to look a little more confident and settled, and these are good signs from the newbie, able to duck more incoming Palvin offense and slam leather into abs and jugs, bouncing Barbie towards the ropes, the ABC beauty struggling to cover.

Monika pursues and pressures, bending her opponent with mighty underhooks to gut, then snapping sharp crosses through cheek and jaw. Palvin staggering, looking concerned, and the crowd is roaring, all attention on the newbie as she hammers desperate Palvin from pillar to post.

Trainer Alyssa Milano in the ABC corner screaming orders at Barbara, but the beauty is punch drunk, taking shot after shot, wobbling on those long legs, butt in the ropes, groans able to be heard as she’s softened and disorientated between body blows and headshots.

Somehow Palvin remains on her feet, albeit leaning heavily against the turnbuckle as the bell sounds to end the third round, and she looks completely miserable, dazed even. Jagaciak looks a million dollars, perhaps two, and certainly still fresh and nimble to boot. Monika a happy sight as she takes a seat, tapping her feet against the canvas, clearly eager to get back out there and win her debut. Milano having a stern word to Palvin in the opposite corner as Barbie’s cut right cheek is tended to and she hunches over trying to find her breath.

Round 4:
Jagaciak races in at Palvin, wanting to press the advantage she built in the previous round, but her eagerness costs her as Barbara sidesteps and cracks a wild left through Monika’s gorgeous face, stumbling the young beauty. The crowd sounds shocked as things suddenly turn for young Monika, and a tired and sore, yet determined Barbie steps in with that big overhand that, this time, slams against Jagaciak’s temple, sending her sprawling on her feet towards the ropes.

Barbara huffs her way inside Monika’s range to continue, but Jagaciak swings heavy lefts and rights high, startled, trying to back up her strong opponent. A couple of big shots land and now Palvin stumbles as Jagaciak fights her way off of the ropes.

Just as Monika pushes forward and jabs, Barbara steps back in, grunting as leather squashes her left jug, but following through with a wicked right overhand that clubs Jagaciak just below the left eye, and the Polish beauty lets out a pained cry as she flails sideways. Monika unable to see the follow up as she tries to find her footing, and Barbie’s big right comes over the top again, banging against left temple.

Monika takes two staggered steps sideways, then collapses, straight onto her side on the canvas, wheezing and lifting a heavy gloved hand to the open cut right below her left eye.

Barbara lifts her weary arms in the air as Monika is counted out, barely shifting from her side as she lays sorely, a harsh welcome to the league after looking so promising early in the bout.
Barbara Palvin wins, KO4!

Post-fight:
A respectful applause filling the arena as Palvin gently helps Jagaciak to her feet and they hug it out. Monika still looking quite dazed, and Barbara tired, but the pair showing great sportsmanship after a hotly contested battle.

“I just told her to keep her chin up and get back in the ring soon,” Barbara told us of her brief chat with her opponent post-fight. “She almost knocked me right out, I didn’t expect her to pack that much power. But, I’m super pumped to have won a couple of fights this month. Things look better already. I have to find a way to keep this momentum. The one thing that has annoyed me over the first year of my career here has been my inconsistency. I need that to change. Winning two on the trot now has me hopeful though. I know it’s in there.”
