BEFORE:
"I get what this is," says Sofia with a hint of a pout. "It's all about bringing new girls in, and they're all supposed to be happy just to be here. Well. I'm NOT happy just to be here. I'm not going to be happy until I win. And, I'm going to!"
"You know," says Jane with a slight smile, "You gotta love a girl with not one second of FCBA experience who comes pre-loaded with attitude, because that just means she's due for an attitude adjustment."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Rotten to the Core' you hear, and coming down to ringside is the singer of that little ditty, the lovely Sofia Carson!"
McCarthy (singing): "I'm rotten to the core, core, rotten to the core. I'm rotten to the core, core, who could ask for more..."
O'Dell: "Oh, for..."
McCarthy: "I LIKE this song. And, I like this KID. She DOES have attitude, and that's what you need in the FCBA. Sceej has always needed a flyweight, maybe we can..."
Cassie: "We? As in you and Uncle Wiz? Because, let's not forget, HE owns Sceej Boxing..."
McCarthy: "He does NOT! It's all a facade, I tell you! He's not my boss and I'll do what I want to and if I want to sign a fighter, I'll do it and that pointy-hatted MENACE and his little minion Jamie Lynn aren't going to STOP me!"
Tess: "You know, Mac, if you just promise to get their little dogs, too..."
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, WALMAARRRRTTTTTTT!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys. Sofia into the ring and helped off with the robe, and she's looking very, very good in that red two piece. And, that's 'Pleasant Nightmare' by Alih Jey and that means 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy is on her way to the ring!"
Tess: "Levy a girl with a chance to take a big step forward this year. She's been one of Front Street's biggest developmental success stories, and 2017 could see her become a contender..."
Cassie: "Sure could, but she needs to keep taking care of business, and that starts tonight."
O'Dell: "Levy into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that peach bikini we've seen before, and, with the ladies about ready, it's time for some picks. Tess favors Levy. Mac?"
McCarthy: "I LIKE this kid, FCBA wins or not. Carson!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "And, we're underway. Carson has good legs and she's making use of them right now. She has some reach on Levy and clearly plans to use it. She's legging, jabbing, circling, making Jane move the feet to square up. Levy, of course, very athletic, a former college soccer player, so she can move every bit as well as Carson..."
Tess: "And, she's showing some of that, getting square and getting off in combination in spots."
O'Dell: "But Sofia pretty slippery ladies. She's moving the head and hands very well for a tyro, not giving Levy a lot to hit. Jane patient, as always. She's a very cerebral fighter, as we've seen in the past. Never rushes. Never gets sloppy. Never panics. Just, good, steady work like you're seeing now."
McCarthy: "Blah, blah, blah! But, the fact is, the Carson kid's fighting every bit as well as she is this round, if not better."
O'Dell: "You aren't wrong, Mac. Sofia's finding the range with that jab and she's spending a lot of time out of range of Jane's punches. It's definitely been two-way stuff so far, but Carson's giving as well as she gets as we roll into the final seconds of the first. Jane bobbing the head, moving the feet. Sofia a nice two-punch combination, and there's the bell. Close. Carson."
Cassie: "I remember how good it felt to get my first FCBA round under my belt, and I'm betting Sofia's feeling every bit as good now, especially since she fought so well in it."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Carson on the move in a major way here in the second. You're seeing that dancing ability she has, because those feet are excellent. Levy patient, stalking now as Sofia decides she's going to double down on the legging. Jane keeping the guard up, moving the head and feet, working to cut the ring."
McCarthy: "She's getting that done here and there, but not as much as you'd expect. Like you said, Jenny, Carson is slippery."
O'Dell: "No doubt about it, Mac. She's been very hard to find in this stanza, and that's allowing her to gain the advantage here. Levy still stalking, cutting, landing a combination, but Carson slipping away, going back to the jab, wants to fight this thing in open canvas, and that's probably a good idea on her part."
Cassie: "No question about it. she doesn't want to get in close with Jane. Levy's a very physical fly who's quite the hitter. Better for Sofia to box."
O'Dell: "And, that's exactly what Carson's doing as we come down the stretch. Fifteen seconds to go in what's been a good second round for the tyro. Jane continuing to move the feet, cut the ring, does it right there and lands a flurry, but, again, Sofia quickly away and back to the jab. There's the bell. Carson's round."
Tess: "20-18, Sofia. Her corner's all smiles at the moment."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Carson right back on her horse to begin the third, and, why not? It's working plenty well, no question about that. Levy a bit more aggressive now, working to cut and close, banging some body when she gets in there. Brunette ties up, slips away, gets back to open ocean, but Jane right back after her."
Tess: "Redhead having a bit more success this round, due to that increased aggression. She's getting the ring cut a lot more than in the first two frames."
O'Dell: "And, it's resulting in more exchanges. Carson holding her own in those, but Jane getting the better of them, both because of her weight of shot and because she's landing more and landing cleaner. And, that body work not hurting her cause, either. Not much going downstairs from Carson, but Jane's investing at the moment."
McCarthy: "And, the referee had better watch. Front Street fighters are WELL KNOWN for low blows!"
Cassie: "Only in a world with pink skies and red grass. In other words, the world YOU live in..."
McCarthy: "SHUT IT, SCABBO!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Twenty seconds remaining here in the third. It's been a good, two-way round, but Levy's got the edge as the clock ticks down. Jane cuts the ring again, goes body. Sofia ties up, slips away, goes back to the jab. Again, Jane after her, landing a nice hook to the ribs at the bell. Close, but Levy's on the board."
Tess: "And, it's 29-28 after three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Levy after Carson immediately now. She's finding ways to bring her to battle, and those battles involve lots and lots of body work. Sofia again tying up in there, trying to shove off, but Levy punching free, staying in close, working the younger woman over with heavy shot to the ribs and midsection."
Cassie: 'Sofia's done very well for herself so far, but, she's got to come up with an answer to this. These terms do not augur well for her."
O'Dell: "But, these are the terms being enforced by Jane, who's upped the aggression another notch this round. Levy all up in her rival's grill, downstairs, then up, then back down again. Carson tying up, trying to get breaks here, but can't do it. Jane punching free and continuing to work that body."
McCarthy: "Kid needs to get the feet moving again, slip out of this instead of trying to wrestle around in there."
O'Dell: "Thirty seconds remain in the fourth. Levy's built a big edge in this one. Carson being backed up by a good flurry to the head now. She's covering up and that puts the body on sale. Levy thumping that, then going back upstairs. Final seconds ticking away here in the fourth, and it's Levy wide."
Tess: "And, we're all even at 38, but Jane looks to be taking control."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth begins with Levy again making with the pressure. Carson trying to double up on the jab, working hard to slow Jane down. Redhead not having it, working forward, banging body. Sofia tying up, ladies wrestling around in there and LEVY GOES DOWN TO HER KNEES! Not sure if that's a knockdown or a slip. Jane up quickly but the referee going to send Sofia to a neutral corner and give her the mandatory..."
Cassie: "That's the right call. Jane's not hurt, but that came off a punch. Jane was off balance when it landed so she went down, but that's a knockdown."
O'Dell: "Levy not at all happy, and you can understand why. That may well cost her two points in a fight that's dead even on the cards. Referee completes the mandatory and waives Carson forward. Sofia not going to try to capitalize, because there's nothing to capitalize on. She's back to using the jab and the legs..."
McCarthy: "Good idea. Just leg this one out and bank the points."
O'Dell: "Jane again aggressively cutting the ring, closing, working body. Carson tying up. Levy shoving off and STAGGERING CARSON WITH A RIGHT UPPERCUT! Sofia stumbling backward and LEVY DROPS HER WITH A BARRAGE OF LEATHER! Carson flat on her back as Jane goes to a neutral corner..."
Tess: "No question about THAT one..."
O'Dell: "Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Carson rolls to her belly. Eight. Nine. TEN! That's all the farther Sofia can get and it's OVER. And your winner by KO5 is 'The Marin County Marauder', Jane Levy!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Jane Levy, and, Jane, were you hurt on that knockdown?"
Jane (shaking her head): "Not at all. It was a good punch, but I was off balance and stumbled, that's all."
Tess: "You certainly turned it on afterward..."
Jane: "Well, I wanted to get after her, because I knew she'd just won the round if I didn't. And, she's a good fighter, especially for a girl with no FCBA experience. She can jab and move and box. I didn't want to give away points and end up chasing them on the cards. It was time to get busy, and that's what I did."
