TESS VALMORE

Once again,  we remind readers that our rankings are somewhat unconventional as we require activity. A fighter must fight every ninety days. We will not permit someone to sit on a ranking and be inactive. We also give importance to competition. A 3-2 record against top competition is better that 4-0 against second or third tier competition

How things have changed. For a long time the welter division was the weak sister of the Association, but now the welters look to be on the rebound and the lightweights, previously known at the Tiffany division, are in trouble.   We have had an influx of good new fighters. Those who were classified as lightweight/welter have chosen to fight at welter leaving little new blood in the division. Another factor seems to be managers priorities being in the other divisions. Top fighters are constantly being dropped from the rankings because of inactivity. That which was a rarity previously is now common. Arriving at a top ten used be a walk in the park. Now it starting to be a climb in the mountains. I hope these trends can be reversed

THE TOP TEN LIGHTWEIGHTS

1.  GEMMA ARTERTON She happens to be the champ. Defended her title in December beating Jessica Biel

2  YVONNE STRAHOVSKI. Had dropped out of the last rankings due to inactivity. She jumped back into the ranking is a big way by beating Perry, Winstead and Kesha. Not a bad two months. Last fight was in January.

3  MARY CATHERINE WINSTEAD Another who had dropped out of the rankings due to inactivity. Beat Peregrym in the Santa-kini bout before losing to Strahovski in the Body Paint PPV on New Years Day

4  KAY PERRY. Also had dropped out of the last rankings due to inactivity. She turned to the ring losing to Strahovski but beating Union in the December Asylum

5  LEELEE SOBIESKI Back in the rankings at lightweight after beating a tough Missy Peregrym at the December Asylum

6  SERINDA SWAN She was ranked four in our last rankings. Beat DiDonato at the Ice Hotel in January. Not very good competition, but at least she is getting into the ring

7  TAYLOR SWIFT. Had a great 2016 but she hasn’t fought since November. Must fight this month or drop out

8  ARIANA LIMA. Was ranked at six in the last rankings. She hasn’t fought since Must fight in February or drop out.

9  JENNIFER LAWRENCE Moves up on due to some last due to fighters being dropped out because of inactivity. She hasn’t fought since November. Must fight this month or drop out.

10 JAMIE ALEXANDER Breaks into the top ten for the first time,   She’s on five fight win streak after beating Joanne Kelly in January

WHO DROPPED OUT

MIRANDA KERR Inactivity

ODETTE YUSTMAN Inactivity

DANIELA RUAH Inactivity

BLAKE LIVELY Has crashed and burned losing to Bella Thorne. Lima and Winstead once again giving credence to the idea that the champion is necessarily the best fighter

ANNA TORV Was replaced by Jamie Alexander based on competition

SOME TO WATCH

MISSY PEREGRYM She dropped out because of inactivity and then had to fight two bouts in two days and lost both I have no doubt if stays active she will be backed ranked

BROOKLYN DECKER Dropped out because of inactivity. Returned to beat Stevens in December but that kind of competition was not good enough to get her back in the rankings

ALESSANDRA AMBROSIO Was 4-2 last year and won in January

LUISANA LOPILATO Was 4-0 before getting upset in January but I think she is promising

TOP TEN WELTERWEIGHTS

The Welters are now in better shape than they have been in years due to the influx of new talent. Four of the top ten are either newbies or new to the FCBA

1  GEMMA ATKINSON She’s the current champ and is on a six fight win streak with wins over an impressive group of opponents, he last two being Upton and Regan in January

2  KATE UPTON Lost the title to Atkinson in January. Drops to the number two spot

3  KARLIE KLOSS Probably the hottest fighter in the FCBA now. Has won seven fights in six months. During that time she has wins over Lancaster, Romjin, Righetti and beat McKinney in January

4  RIGHETTI It’s been a long time since Righetti has been ranked this low. She lost two of her last four fights. She last fought in January beating Callies

5  BRIDGET REGAN Won three of her last five with her losses being to Atkinson and Righetti. She lost the a title fight against Atkinson in January

6  CASSIDY FREEMAN. Last fought in October. Needs to fight on the upcoming card or drop out

7  HILARY RHODA. She Is undefeated in six bouts after disposing of Khloe Kardashian in January

8  HANNAH FERGUSON Has fought six conventional bouts winning them all. Flattened Brook in January

9  MICHELLE RYAN She lost a title bout to Upton in December. Drops to ten. Actually Rhoda, Ferguson and Ryan can be ranked interchangeably

10 PAULA PATTON Hangs in at ten. Last fought in November. Has to fight this month or drop out
