Jennifer Love Hewitt vs Cheryl Cole (Mirage Boxing vs Lioness Club) (50-65-1, 36 KO vs 14-3, 14 KO)
Results: Lookout!; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: Let's make no mistake, Jennifer Love Hewitt can still sell a ticket or two in the female celebrity boxing universe and she's exactly the kind of opponent that Cheryl Cole repeatedly targets during her cindirella crossover career lately. The Geordie native has extended her FCBA foray into the lenghts hardly anyone could predict when she made her American debut back in November 2015. Since then she's racked up 14 wins in 17 fights and that's exactly fourteen more than Hewitt achieved in the same period of time. You have to go back two calendar years to see the Texas brunette last have her hand raised in the air but she did so against bantamweight veteran Kate Beckinsale - who also happens to be British - just like her tonight's opponent.
Jennifer Love Hewitt wears a purple bikini set and black gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a custom ponytail. Cheryl Cole wears a Newcastle United-themed black & white vertically striped bikini top, black knickers and golden gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1: Many pundits don't consider Jennifer a boxing marathon runner anymore so her trigger-happy start to this bout is perhaps easy to explain; she tackles the singer to the body and beats her for a clubbing punch upstairs when Cheryl tries to square off in classic flyweight punchfest fashion. She fails in her plans though and slips onto her heels when Hewitt connects with more furious blows in close range. However the English brunette refuses to back off and barks in her efforts to tame the older girl's efforts - she gets pummelled onto the body so repeatedly she has no other choice after a while and Jennifer reaches out with a late head hunting rally to drive the overwhelmed singer back to the ropes where Cole's last-ditch clinching attempt finally halts the Texas cavalry. Still, that was more than impressive from Hewitt and a good sign this bout won't be as one-sided as some of the experts have called it.
Round 2: More close range jostling which supports Jennifer's lenghty JMD tenure to flex her elbows and really punish the Geordie singer with surgical uppercuts. Cheryl groans in her efforts to halt the older brunette's charge but gets repeatedly outworked during the opening two minutes yet she refuses to step back and seek a different route to finally succeed with her own punches. The lack of those strikes only fuels Hewitt's determination - as if the two year winless streak wasn't enough - and she clatters the singer jug-to-jug to send the bout into a gruesome wrestling display along the ropes. It plays into Cole's advantage as she's capable of shutting down those punishing uppercuts and actually loops several meaningful shots to the body herself as Jennifer can't force a break and isn't best pleased with the singer's tactics at all.
Round 3: Cheryl uses her dancer skills to finally stay clear of Jennifer's close range stalking and beats her for the overhand punch several times to really slow the tempo of the Texan attack. Hewitt adjusts her stance but she finds it difficult to repeat those previous heroics while Cole methodically circles around her while settling for the single hand approach that wins her the pure punching count by numbers. That's enough to even the odds and have Lioness coach Claudia Schiffer applaud from the corner however the lack of a big punch means the Geordie lass is unable to pour immediate punishment on the American veteran and gives Jennifer another hope that she can remain on top in this tightly-contested match-up. That's really a good reason to see Hewitt as a viable option going forward despite her wear & tear possibly indicating otherwise before tonight.
Round 4: It's Cheryl's turn to become the stalker and the Newcastle native has kept her cool surprisingly long but she's back to her familiar 'mean girl' image and the injection of pace proves problematic for the Texan actress to say the very least. Jennifer doesn't find that boob connection she was looking for and soaks up a clubbing hook on the jaw before tailing off to the ropes; however it's difficult to outmaneuver a practising dancer and Cole's a decade-old veteran in the music video gear which sometimes becomes forgotten. Of couse she has the measure of Hewitt's footwork and swings a flurry of aerial strikes that clip the temples more often than not and keep the actress on her heels before a scything cross nails her on the nose and dumps onto the turnbuckle inside the final few seconds. Chezza is immediately there to finish off the impressive drive and blasts Jennifer through the arms to vigorously sway her boobs for the first time tonight and leave her opponent yelping out in pain at the bell.
Round 5: The Geordie train gains more steam as Cheryl now picks off Jennifer in mid range before looping more of these dangerous hooks around the temples. Jennifer's confidence isn't all that high anymore and she desperately seeks that phone booth-like stance that brought her the success earlier tonight. She misses a couple of aerial strikes herself though and wobbles forward which allows the younger brunette to blast quick half-uppercuts on the face and then burst through the solar plexus with a swift change of targets. Ugh! Hewitt squeals in pain even louder now and gets stuck on her heels as Cheryl power slides into a ribcage drilling assault that bends the actress towards the ropes and has her glued to the post during the final minute. And it's all Chezza there on as she pounds the helpless Texan girl to the body and breaks the guard down which allows her to punish that famous Hewitt rack hand over the proverbial first. Poor Jennifer is left spitting out her gumshield at the bell and she slumps against the ropes while Cheryl yells at her: "You deserve all that and more, slag!" Suddenly it's all gone downhill for the Mirage veteran but it's not like the audience didn't see it coming. Jennifer started out so well but looks a spend force at half-distance already!
Round 6: Jennifer Love's wear & tear must work against her now and Cheryl thrives in knocking the subdued fellow brunette back & forth around the ring during a very one-sided opening minute. It's like someone pulled the plug on the Texas native and no one bets on her recovery as Cole gets vocally emotional and smells blood spilling out of her prey's nose when she connects with a massive left/right combo just past the sixty seconds mark. She traps Hewitt on her heels one more time and dissects the guard with brutal precision leading the actress into another yelping sign of looming demise... Jennifer's wrapped in a close range Geordie heat but she's got no resources to make her presence felt anymore and drops her guard invitingly for Chezza to BLAST her across the nose several times in quick succession which leads into a blood-seeping conclusion. Ugh! Jennifer chokes on some tears as she tries to fend off the Geordie execution but only bends back on her trailing (right) leg and when the Newcastle singer nails her with another clean hook on the nasal ridge, SHE DROPS FACE-DOWN ON THE CANVAS to rise no more!!! It's a sad sight for anyone supporting the Mirage brunette but poor Hewitt simply can't embrace so much punishment anymore and only rolls onto her right side as the count mercilessly passes her by. KO6 Cheryl Cole!!!
AFTER: One might say it's business as usual from the notorious Geordie performer but even she doesn't look as animated as she was during some of her previous post-fight actions. She plants her foot on the vanquished foe's hip and yells out at her before stomping her on the tummy. Poor Jennifer can't stop sobbing at this stage and her bloody nose tells the audience everything about that final six minutes of the bout when she really cracked under the English heat. However Chezza quickly stops punishing the unfortunate actress and grabs the mic to announce her plans for next month's PPV. And this will feature probably the biggest challenge since her Flyweight Title Eliminator against Lucy Hale, even fellow UK expatriants Emma Watson and Lily Collins can't claim the bragging right over one of the Asylum's finest... No *official* details on that one as Chezza winks with a swagger towards Claudia Schiffer but one should expect Boxing World Magazine to jump all over that story next week! Heck, even Tess Valmore could find it interesting despite her long-time wrath of the Lioness front office.
Final result: Cheryl Cole def. Jennifer Love Hewitt KO6.
