Gisele Bundchen vs Barbara Palvin
Pre-fight: In the first fight on this card here in LA, we have a model showdown with former Queen of the Ice Hotel, Gisele Bundchen, taking on rookie, Barbara Palvin. Young Barbie did get an opportunity to fight at the Ice Hotel in her first year with the FCBA. Had Palvin defeated Kelly Rohrbach in the Ice Hotel Title Eliminator, she would have found herself in the title match against none other than Bundchen. It wasn’t meant to be, and as we all know Palvin had quite a rollercoaster of a rookie year. Though as she sets her sights on improving this year, a win against the then Ice Hotel title holder, and a third win in a row for Barbara, would surely fill her fans and stable with confidence that she is moving in the correct direction.
Barbara has had a much better run as of late, winning her past two bouts and perhaps establishing a little momentum, that which she hadn’t been able to find in her first year of competition. Of course, that existence of momentum will be either proven or denied right here against unpredictable Brazilian model, Bundchen. While Barbie fights tooth and nail to prove she can make it in the FCBA, Gisele comes into the match against Palvin knowing she needs to win in order to remain relevant and prove she still belongs, since she is currently on a rough four-fight losing streak.
“Of course I can beat her,” Gisele said flatly. “And I will. She’s young, inexperienced, and inconsistent. And I was the Ice Hotel Queen. I suggest you bow down now, Barbie.”
Naturally, Barbie wasn’t having any of it. “I might be all of those things, but I guess that makes Gisele old and experienced… at losing? I’ll take my chances, thanks. We’ll see who’s bowing down by the end of this bout, has-been.”
Round 1: Barbara looking quite confident as we begin the bout, perhaps building a little belief off her last two bouts, handily beating Tonkin and Jagaciak. But, she steps into a calculated Gisele right jab that stings cute nose and has Barbie checking her guard and shuffling her feet wildly.
Gisele now advancing, and this time it’s Barbie who recovers sweetly, countering with a lovely left jab and smacking the leather against Gisele’s rosy right cheek. Gisele staggers and Barbie coolly follows with the right jab, bopping the older beauty’s head and reddening that model face.
It’s a bit of a back and forth through the first round with testing jabs and smooth counters, but Barbara seems to have the slight advantage and is certainly moving those feet and that young body more efficiently, finding more space for counters and frustrating Gisele towards the end of the round.
Round 2: Bundchen turning things around completely in the second round, showing how a little more experience can effect a fight. Gisele using her long reach to jab the leather into Barbie’s mouth repeatedly, bopping her head about like a bobblehead doll and eventually fattening up a lip. Barbie bleating in discomfort and frustration, getting picked apart suddenly after such a promising first round. Gisele taking control in this one, smacking leather repeatedly into Barbie’s face, the Hungarian model struggling to recover the guard and protect pretty face.
Bundchen takes a seat in her corner looking far more confident now than after the first, while Palvin is having a serious chat with Milano in her corner, listening to the firm advice, her trainer clearly not liking what she saw in the second.
Round 3: Barbie tight on guard to start the third round, keen to recover from the second and frustrate Gisele by allowing nothing through, and she does just that. The crowd getting slightly restless later in the round when Barbie sees a chance to counter and ignores, keen on stifling the offense completely and playing things on her terms. It won’t help her physically, but it’s having an instant mental effect, Gisele clearly swinging with more frustration and emotion than strategy or precision as the round advances.
Round 4: Barbie thinking she’s cooled Gisele’s jets, looking to crack into the offense now, a headhunting right jab aimed to bop into pretty features, but Gisele stifles it with the guard and counters swiftly, smacking a hard left hook across Barbie’s jugs that staggers her and opens her up for a sharp right cross that bruises that lovely left cheek.
It’s all Gisele now as Barbie can’t recover the guard so tightly and the more experienced model goes to town on poor beautiful Barbara, smacking that lovely face about the ring, bruising her up and diminishing some resolve by the time the fourth bell rings.
Barbie’s crew needing to do a little work as their girl winces, a grimace plastered on her puffy bruised face. Giselle looking focused, staring across at her opponent, eager to continue with her current momentum.
Round 5: Barbie hasn’t had a leg up since the first round, but she’s looking as focused as ever as we begin the fifth round, eyes narrowed and unwavering from Gisele as the tall model slinks along the canvas towards her.
Gisele with a left jab that is blocked, and then Barbie sidesteps the follow-up straight right before doubling back with a straight right of her own, slamming leather into the centre of Gisele’s face. Gisele with the yelp as blood graces her nose, and Barbie starts banging the leather lower into that sleek midsection, doubling Gisele up and working the beauty over hard, soon getting some pained huffs from her as Barbie drives the air right out of her lungs with heavy body work.
The crowd finally see something from young Palvin and get on their feet as she rocks Bundchen back and forth and exerts a little dominance, as if she’s just been biding her time.
Round 6: Gisele doesn’t look like the fighter she was a round ago now, her confidence suddenly non-existent after one strong round from Palvin. Barbie can sense it and she’s riding high on it, going after the older model with gusto. Bundchen trying to work the guard, but Barbie is having none of it, just launching hammers at whatever is available. Firstly Gisele’s ribs, then the jabs into face, then chest, then tummy. Bundchen is staggering into the ropes as Palvin pistons away at those abs, and as soon as the guard slips slightly lower, the big Barbie right overhand crashes right into that pretty Bundchen face.
With a grunt, Gisele’s left eye is puffed up and there will be a serious shiner on that gorgeous face in the morning. Bundchen wobbles, and Palvin moves in for the kill now, slamming left cross, right straight, left straight, right haymaker. And the HUGE overhand crashes into Bundchen’s left temple.
Gisele sways, trips back a step, and flops straight onto her back, thudding onto the mat with a bit of a bounce. Gisele is staring up glassy eyed at the lights, and Barbara happily shuffles away to give her room to listen to the referee’s count.
Gisele looks like she’s trying to find her feet, but it’s not happening, and the dazed beauty doesn’t really even get off of her back by the time the ref calls it. That’s it folks, your winner by KO6; Barbara Palvin!
Post-fight: A huge motivational victory here for Barbara Palvin, and the fans seem to appreciate it, giving the sexy ABC Lightweight a standing ovation as she graciously helps Gisele to her feet. It marks Barbie’s third win in a row, and an important boost in morale and momentum for a girl who started the new year by losing to the fighter she beat on debut. Seeming like things were going horrifically backwards for Barbie, this string of wins is a sure boost in morale, perhaps when it is needed most.
“Gisele was a tough outing,” Barbara confirmed. “It feels great to be able to beat her. I know it wasn’t the most convincing of performances early, but I still feel like I’m getting comfortable in the ring, and I find a lot that it’s taking me a little bit to get started. But, I think I worked her out after the first 4 rounds, and then I was able to do the right things. I just need to start working these girls out quicker, or I’ll be toast by the time I’m in the right mental spot to do anything about them. But hey, I’m ecstatic to beat Gisele. This is a huge win for me! I’ve just got to get back in that gym and make sure I keep learning.”
Gisele wasn’t quite as positive. “I really thought I could take her. And even throughout the fight I thought I was going to. I don’t know what happened. It was like she turned into a different fighter in the fifth. I couldn’t understand it. It sucks , too, ‘cause young Barbie should have been winnable, but now I’m on a five fight losing streak. That is not a good place to be.”
