Ana de Armas versus Lorenza Izzo (Double debut)
Pre-fight: We have an exciting second bout at the Staples Centre now, as Ana de Armas makes her FCBA debut tonight after recently signing with Alpha Boxing Club. Following Rachael Leigh Cook’s injury and consequential career concerns, ABC placed the veteran on the sidelines and brought in the fresh faced Ana. The league hasn’t seen a thing from the young Cuban beauty, nor her opponent, the also debuting Lorenza Izzo, so fans are coming into this with minimal expectations, but high excitement and intrigue.
Lorenza Izzo makes her debut tonight without a stable to back her up. Still, she is confident and certainly keen to enter the FCBA ring for the first time and show the league what she has.
“I’ve knocked out pretty girls before,” Lorenza laughs, “just not inside a ring. It can’t be that different. And Ana’s too cute to be much of a brawler, I guarantee it.”
Ana politely disagreed. “Too cute?? I’ll take that as a compliment. I wonder if she’ll still think I’m cute after I knock her pretty head off. So what if Lorenza has experience outside the ring? I’ve been training hard inside it, and I know what I’m doing. I hope she takes me as lightly as she seems to be.”
Round 1: Lorenza comes out hard and fast, clearly keen to make a strong impression early. Heavy fists swing for Ana’s head, but the pretty Cuban ducks, weaves, then smacks a straight right counter into the centre of Lorenza’s face, startling and stopping her ‘Knock Knock’ co-star right in her tracks.
Lorenza seems a little stunned by Ana’s pace, agility and awareness, and before she can set her guard from the counter, Ana has jabbed four sharp fists into Lorenza’s face, smacking her about and instantly stealing her thunder and any immediate offensive chances.
Lorenza may be a rookie, but she knows to get the hell out of dodge, and she backs up quickly, shuffling the feet and working the guard frantically to protect that pretty face from Ana’s oncoming jabs.
The first round continues with Ana jabbing at Lorenza like a yappy terrier at her heels, and Lorenza seems to be a little frustrated after her first round ever, since she was forced to play defence essentially the entire time.
Round 2: Lorenza, not prepared to spend the first two rounds of her FCBA career on the defensive, decides to hammer her way into Ana straight away, this time with more success, just bulldozing her way through her slightly smaller opponent.
“You’re mine, tiny!” Lorenza is taunting with a grin as she pounds leather into Ana’s gorgeous face, backing her up towards the ropes. Even when Ana gets the guard in front, Lorenza’s power is working her back and jolting her, giving Ana very little to work with, getting a taste of her own medicine from the first round.
Round 3: Lorenza looking for more of the same, but Ana isn’t silly and she can see it coming a mile away. She slips into defence mode, but does so successfully and tightly and stifles most of what Lorenza has for her. A few heavy shots find side of head or a little rib, but Ana is moving quite well and guarding strongly, even sneaking a few defensive jabs out that bop into Lorenza’s jaw or jugs, the latter getting a rise from the crowd, who seem to be enjoying the back and forth, tightly contested action from this pair of gorgeous, talented debutants.
Round 4: Ana starting to look very sharp and very intriguing as she dances around Lorenza, her foot movement and read on her opponent at this point quite impressive for a rookie. Lorenza attempting to take the fight to her still, but it’s as if Ana has discovered how to read Lorenza now, and is weaving at the right moment, moving with precision, and jabbing the counter to perfection.
Lorenza swings a high right hook aiming to club Ana’s pretty head right off of her shoulders, but de Armas ducks, smacks a right into the Chilean beauty’s ribs, pivots into a left hook at her side, then rises and twists into a crazy right uppercut that clocks right under Lorenza’s jawline.
Lorenza staggers and stumbles backwards and suddenly the crowd here is very loud as Ana chases and starts working the body, getting some worrying puffing from her opponent who suddenly finds herself on the ropes, both figuratively and literally. Ana hammering fists into those reddening ribs and sides, and Lorenza is offering very little as Ana takes this round by the horns, and her opponent by the midsection.
Round 5: After a surprisingly impressive and focused round from Ana, she bounds out of her corner looking like she really belongs in this ring. On the counter, the albeit thus far promising looking Lorenza looks flustered after that fourth round. Ana knows it and she’s peppering her opponent early in the round, jabbing to concerned face, getting that guard to lift high, then bangs the gloves hard into that red midsection, getting groans of displeasure from Lorenza and slumping her over some more.
Lorenza just looks like she wants to hide now as Ana turns on beast mode and the crowd are visibly excited at the debutant lighting up her fellow rookie’s midsection until Lorenza almost falls into the corner. Leaning against the turnbuckle, arms starting to flutter lower, Lorenza is forced to watch as Ana pivots and CRASHES a tasty right glove straight into her gorgeous face, snapping her head back to bounce off of the turnbuckle and right back into a wicked left cross that cracks Lorenza’s chin to her left. Lorenza forced to widen her arms and catch herself on the ropes, and then comes the Ana de Armas mighty springing uppercut that bounces under Lorenza’s chin and puts the Chilean beauty’s lights out before she even collapses in a heap on the canvas at Ana’s feet.
Ana happy to back away as the referee does his thing, and de Armas is quickly declared the winner of this double debut. Ana de Armas wins via KO5!
Post-fight: Ana de Armas a picture of confidence and success as she celebrates with fans after the bout, having won on debut. The crowd here in LA seem to like the rookie and want to sense that she’s going places after such a handy first-up victory.
“I’m stoked!” Ana excitedly grins. “The training paid off, I felt pretty comfortable in there, and moreso as it went on. I love this! I’m SO happy I won my first fight! I want to get back in there and prove myself worthy again and again. That was a blast!”
