Intro:
The first of our four ACB title fights sees a surprising new comer in Mallory Jansen get a title shot after just 1 win against the ACB lightweight champion Poppy Montgomery.
The challenger Mallory us 27 years old, 5'9 1/2 and holds a 1 and 0 record with 1 knockout, she beat the tough Rachael Taylor in her debut and called the champ out to the shock of the Australian press.
The hometown girl Poppy is 44 years old, 5'5 and holds a record of 13 wins, 10 by knockout and 13 defeats with 1 draw, she is the reigning ACB champion after beating Rachael Finch in 2014.

Leading up to this fight, insults were exchanged over social media and interviews with one topic popping up repeatedly; age.
The challenger saying to the press "Poppy is clinging onto that title as if her life depends on it, the age of her maybe it does; I mean she's forty f***ing four"
Adding "the ACB needs to be rebuilt, girls like Poppy were like the silver era of comics, now I'm ushering in the golden age" winking as she borrows some terms of phase she's learned from the Comic con circuit for her role on Agents of Shield as Aida.
Poppy of course not happy with being called past it, replying to the media "where do these youngsters get off saying when we should step aside? I fought to get my place, I didn't throw snide little remarks to get where I was"
Asked if she maybe bit too quickly in giving Mallory a title shot quite a few pundits think is unwarranted, she answers "I didn't bite, I gave her the chance to see what a real fighter looks like in person, I'm going to beat that bytch into submission for her silly comments and maybe then she'll grow up"
The weigh in was eventful, both girls meeting up for the first time, Poppy seeing for herself the task she has set herself to keep her title as she looks up at the taller Mallory.
The redhead clearly not caring though as she has fought big girls before and won, giving Mallory a shove as the brunette starts running her mouth.
Security between the highly explosive girls as they glare at each other, ready to lunge at each other and claw the other to pieces, before they are led off stage.

Fight night in, out comes Mallory first with her coach behind her, hands on her hips, she is standing like another comic book character in Wonder Woman (maybe Gal Gadot has some competition) and stares over the crowd.
Walking down to the ring, Mallory is wearing a black one piece swimsuit that seems to cling to her flawless body, she has black gloves and is fighting barefoot.
Climbing into the ring, she gives her fans a quick wave, but looks utterly focused on the fight, going through her final routine with her coach as all eyes turn to the top of the ramp as a loud roar fills the arena.
Poppy stands with her coach Nikki Visser holds up the ACB lightweight title for the crowd to see, her fans are clapping and cheering her on as she starts her march to the ring.
She is wearing a red piece swimsuit that matches her hair colour, red gloves and is also barefoot for this fight.
Climbing into the ring, Poppy glares over at Mallory, who doesn't break eye contact with her as the girls slowly head towards each other and the referee has to hold them back before they start the fight early.
Both are exchanging words as the referee gets the belt off of Nikki and holds it between the fighters, Poppy tapping the belt and telling her rival "this is mine and only I say when it isn't"
Mallory smirking in reply, not saying again now as she clearly thinks her actions will say everything for her.
Asked to touch gloves, the girls thud them together, eyes full of hate as they slowly head back to their corners, the world for each of them is just the two of them and only one can be say they are the better woman.
The referee looks happy enough to signal for the bell to begin 10 rounds of ACB lightweight championship action.

Round 1:
"Ding" off we go, the girls heading out to the ring centre, Mallory opening up the round with her long jabs, using her height advantage to spike the guard of the older fighter, who keeps her guard tight.
Mallory looking confident as she works her way forwards, starting off strong as Poppy can't get put from behind that guard in the early going.
But Poppy shows her veteran instincts, keeping herself protected as she looks for that opening, then as Mallory sends a straight to the head of the redhead, Poppy ducks a drives forwards with a right hook to the body of her challenger.
She keeps in tight and throws several punches to the body of Mallory, trying to try the air out of the youngster, who shoves her back to get the space again.
Poppy keeping herself compact, knowing she needs to pick her moments, she gets close enough to exchange jabs, then shows some nice footwork and head movement to again step inside and throw a flurry of punches at Jansen.
The girls trading to each others faces at midrange, till Mallory steps back and slams two straight punches to the top of Poppy's head.
The champions head snapping back and for the first time she is getting hit with hard shots, but she slips under a right from her opponent and lands a big overhand right that turns Jansen's head to the side.
Before trying to build on that attack and getting caught with a left cross from the retreating Mallory, not long left in the round as Poppy returns to her shell, letting her opponent just keep attacking her guard till the bell.
Both girls jog back to their corners, the girls focused on there coaches as the sweat gets cleaned off them, though they look over at each other once in a while to give the other a hard stare.
Round 2:
Off go the fighters again, not much different from the last round as Mallory seems relaxed, just hammering the arms of Poppy.
She's taken the crowd out of the fight by using her range to pepper away at the Sydney girl, trying to work her way through her guard then pound her into submission.
When she comes forwards, Poppy uses her head movement to duck another wide thrown hook, then she steps in and digs away at the body of the challenger.
The champion sticking to Mallory till she gets shoved away, Mallory's face looking slightly annoyed that Poppy is doing so well against her.
That annoyance turns to shock as she steps in to look to land a right straight and instead gets caught with a right hook to her chin that puts her down to her side.
Mallory blinks a little but looks OK, Poppy though looks like the cat that got the cream as the crowd roars their happiness at seeing her opponent down.
But not out, Mallory beating the count at 8, looking fine, showing it was a flash knockdown, she smirks at Poppy, maybe believing she's taken the best she can throw.
Both girls come forwards as they meet near the ring centre, Mallory throwing more punches now as she knows she can't let the redhead get into a roll.
The fighters trade near the ring centre, till Mallory lands a left cross and right to the abs of Poppy, making Montgomery take a step back.
Surprisingly even though she was knocked down, Mallory looks the more aggressive, Poppy still trying to pick her shots but not she's forced the challenger to go on the attack.
Slipping hooks around the guard of Poppy to knock her head side to side, Mallory takes a few punches up the centre as the champion comes back and the round ends with the most work off both girls, trading stiff shots through the others guard.
Poppy playing to the crowd, waving to the crowd to cheer her on, maybe hoping to feed off the crowd or to get into the head of Mallory how big a fight this is.
Mallory doesn't look bothered, in fact she speaks with her coach candidly about the knockdown, admitting that she got sloppy but now she knows she has nothing to worry about.
Round 3:
Mallory coming out confidently, working the jab to set up her range then adding right punches around the guard of her rival.
Poppy trying to get more aggressive as she senses that Mallory is starting to overwhelm her, stepping in close to try to pressure her onto the ropes.
The girls standing and trading up top at midrange, the crowd cheering the action on, the tempers of both girls starting to match the colour of Poppy's hair.
Poppy having to clinch up though as she gets caught with two vicious punches to her cheeks, shutting her eyes as they really hurt her.
The referee getting involved to pull both girls apart, Mallory coming on quicker as the girls are ordered to fight.
Mallory slamming a straight over the guard of Poppy, then working the body of the older girl with three punches to the sides.
Poppy finding herself being pressured to the ropes and shoves herself forward to surprise Mallory, using her left shoulder to press her back a step and throws an overhand right to sting the face of her opponent.
But as Poppy tries to drive on, she finds Mallory fighting her toe to toe, not letting her press her back if she can help it.
Mallory's hand speed over the older Poppy allows her to work her back to the ropes, this time the girls stand and trade near the ropes.
The bell rings with the girls just holding back from continuing, Poppy scowling at the taller Mallory, the brunette smiling cockily at the champ.
Then both head back to their corners, some marks starting to show on both fighters, especially on Poppy's cheeks as her coach goes to her on them.
Round 4:
Both fighters come out looking to make their mark on each other, Mallory again stepping forwards to dig her left through the guard of Poppy.
Poppy starts to parry a few lax punches from the challenger, then stepping forwards to land two cross punches up top.
Mallory stepping back and covering up as Poppy quickly comes forward, getting in tight to work her way on the inside.
Trying to dig uppercuts through the guard of Mallory, but then getting caught with an overhand right that knocks her off the front foot.
Mallory coming back at Poppy with a flurry of punches that snap her head back, Poppy on her heels as she has to cover up now.
Back and forth go the girls as Poppy uses her head movement to dodge Mallory's punches to get inside to land several body shots, before being nudged back and pounded to her face with left and rights.
Poppy misses with an uppercut again as she seems focused on taking the head off her opponent and gets caught with a right flush on her nose.
Blood starting to flow from the nostrils of Poppy, who finds herself stuck behind her guard as Mallory strikes at her head.
Then finding that she's got Poppy pinned behind her guard, adding rifling punches to the body of the champ, working her back towards a corner.
Poppy realising where she is in the ring, and ducks forward to clinch Mallory around her waist, the crowd trying to will her on, chanting her name.
Separated, Poppy manages to slip inside with a right and left to the sides of Mallory's body, making her groan out in pain.
Poppy finishing the round strong as she presses Mallory back across the ring and if not for the taller fighters footwork, she may have rammed through her the ropes on the other side.
The bell rings with both trading single shots at midrange, Mallory not losing that confident smile, Poppy wishing she could slap or better yet punch it off her face right about now
Instead she has to get back to her corner to get her nose cleaned up, blood running down to her lips as she grimaces each time it's touched.
Mallory's body getting iced to numb the pain, but she looks much the fitter of the two as Poppy is breathing hard then her.
Round 5:
Poppy is starting to get caught more cleanly, Mallory punching through her guard with piercing lefts and rights that target that bloody nose.
The champion landing some hard shots to her opponents body, but getting smacked to the side of her face by a right hook that shows the first sign of wobbling her legs.
Poppy fighting hard to stay somewhat in tight; but finding herself being pressed backwards now with some hard punches to that nose knocking her back several steps.
Mallory knocking Poppy onto the ropes with a vicious looking straight that snapped her head back, Poppy having to cover up as her younger opponent goes to work with hooks to the body.
Poppy looking hurt as she bends down slightly into more pounding punches to her face, she clinches desperately with Mallory, who looks over the sea of silent people in the crowd, some of her own fans cheering her own are still with chants of her name.
The referee does his job of getting the girls apart, Poppy trying to keep closing the gap, but finding herself being beaten back with faster punches that are really doing a number on her face as it starts swelling up.
A desperate lunge late in the round by Poppy is met with a right to her chin, putting the champ down to resounding boos from the local supporters.
Mallory jogs to a neutral corner as Poppy looks down at the canvas, laying on her side with blood from her nose dripping onto the canvas, the referee is counting her out above her.
Finding strength, Poppy turns herself to her front and pushes her way back up to her feet to beat the count at 8 to a loud cheer from her fans.
Not much longer left in the round for her, but that doesn't stop Mallory from stepping forwards and landing some harsh right cross punches to turn the champs head around and knock her towards a corner, this time she hasn't a chance to escape out of it.
The bell rings to stop her being beaten worse for now, Poppy's lower face looks a mess, blood smeared over it from her nose as she tries to catch her breath.
Mallory still with that smile, seeming to rile some up in the crowd but the rest are upset that their girl is being treated this way, they all hoped Poppy would have won by now
Instead she has to slowly return to her corner to get her face cleaned up and her coach is fighting back the words he knows he should ask "do you want to continue?"
Looking in Poppy's eyes, he knows it's a waste of energy asking, if he tried to stop it, she'd probably shove him out the way and try to charge Mallory, so he is trying his best to get her ready for the next few rounds.
Round 6:
Both fighters do come out, but it's clear after the first exchange that only one fighter is fit, while the other is hurting badly.
Poppy's face is curled up each time she gets caught by the straight punches from Mallory, who is taking her time, punishing her opponent by measuring her with her left and digging the right either up top or down to the body of the redhead.
A hard right hook wobbles Poppy, who if not for shoving herself off the ropes onto Mallory to clinch, may have been down for the second time this fight.
The referee prying the girls apart, he looks worried for Poppy, asking her if she can continue, getting a nod in reply, meaning he has to let it continue.
But Poppy can not do much to Mallory it seems, if she does manage to land a good punch to the body of the youngster, she is met over the top with a right that knocks her head to the side.
Poppy finds herself on the ropes again, having to try and fight her way off but getting beaten back onto the ropes each time she looks like she's going to get off them.
Again Poppy has to clinch up, Mallory leaning onto Poppy to press her tightly on the ropes to stop any chance of her getting her breath back to get a second wind.
The referee pulls the girls apart and Poppy retreats around the ring with Mallory not racing to hunt her down, instead just jabbing away at the guard of the redhead, not wanting to be caught by a desperate lunge or miracle punch from the champ.
Not long left in the round, Poppy tries to step forwards, but gets caught with an uppercut that rocks her to the ropes.
Mallory methodical in her movement, keeping her left out to pin the guard of Poppy back onto her face and digs body shot after body shot in.
The bell rings with Poppy slumped onto the ropes, holding her stomach and trying to catch her breath, Mallory just strutting back to her corner to a near silent arena.
Poppy's coach has to help her back to her corner, but she tells him "you better not f***ing throw in the towel" even as she questions how wise it is for her to go back out, she's adamant that she is going back out next round to fight.
Round 7:
Poppy makes it out for the round, but Mallory is straight on the attack, snapping her punches through the guard of the redhead.
Poppy's head is being rocked back and a right hook over the top of her lowering guard puts the champ down onto her back.
The crowd booing as Mallory heads to a neutral corner with her arms raised to infuriate the crowd even more, making her smile wider.
Poppy is barely stirring as she doesn't have the energy to make her way back up, just laying on her back holding her head with her right gloved hand.
The referee counts her out soon enough and the fight is over with a new ACB champ!

Winner: New ACB Lightweight champion Mallory Jansen KO Round 7

After:
The crowd is silent, seeing one of their own hometown heroes done good get crushed by Mallory, who is jogging over to her coach to give him a big hug.
A doctor comes in to check Poppy as blood runs from her nose down to the canvas, her coach Nikki is kneeling next to her to help her as well.
They help Poppy up to her stool and clean her up as she sobs, not wanting to watch Mallory get given the belt that was once hers.
But after Mallory is asked to the ring centre to get her hand raised and handed the title belt, the new champ heads over to Poppy's corner and holds the title right into her rivals face.
"You should have just handed this to me, look at you now Poppy, beaten and shoved by the wayside by me" mockingly says Mallory as Poppy glares up at her and shoves the title from her face.
Mallory smirks as she turns around to head to the ring centre, raising the title in the air to boos from the crowd, the Melbourne girl not caring as she has what she wanted.
Poppy is helped from the ring, she has her head down as her coach helps by acting as a crutch to get her up the ramp and to the back.
Mallory meanwhile talks to her coach, laughing with him as she lifts up the title and can be caught saying "I can't believe that I battered her as badly"
Before she heads up the ramp, finding ACB reporter Sarah Cumming to tell her "I hope you compare me to Miranda Kerr after this win, I'm going to usher in the new era to the ACB"
Then she struts off up the ramp as Sarah looks stunned at how cocky this woman is, but talk is already beginning of maybe a showdown between her and Kerr in future now after this win.
But Mallory needs to prove this title win isn't a fluke, with fighters like Jennifer Hawkins, Krystal Forscutt and several more will give her a tough test and rumours of more girls heading into the lightweights in the next few months, Mallory has a hell of a bullseye growing on her back.
