SARAH CARTER VS ANNA KENDRICK
Writing: Archer Results: Lookout
Sarah: 36 YO, 5’4 ½ (1.64 m), 54-33-5 since 2003, Foxfire Boxing
Anna: 31 YO, 5’2 (1.57 m) 14-10-1 since 2013, Diamond Boxing Club

Before: “It’s true that anyone who loses a title is likely to be vulnerable,” Sarah Carter comments at the pre-fight press conference, “but that’s not why I challenged Anna. I was interested in fighting her and she was now available. It’s all worked out just fine. Anna will get a fight and I’ll get a win. It’s all that simple.”
Anna Kendrick smiles at this: “Oh, I am sure it never entered Sarah’s mind that losing my title might have left all mentally messed up. Of course, she doesn’t hope to take advantage of that, because, really, there is no mental confusion. I lost, Natalie Portman is now champion and I am back to be a contender. Thing is, I LIKED being Flyweight Champion and I want to be one again. So do to that I have to win. That is where Sarah has made her mistake: I am determined to win so that means beating her. Sorry about that Sarah, but that’s what’s going to happen.”

Sarah looks miffed: “You can start being a contender again after I’ve beaten you. I wouldn’t count on starting your road back with me,”

“I think my road will go right through you, Sarah, dear,” Anna said in a sickly sweet tone.

“Count on hitting a pothole if you try it, Anna dear,” Sarah retorted with equal sickly sweetness.

“Bumpy ride ahead? Oh I am more than ready—are you?” Anna fired back.

“I am always ready to beat a smartass like you,” Sarah said,

“But I am smartass who can fight—as you will learn,” Anna said snidely.

“And you will learn not to mess with me!” Sarah concluded.

Sarah then makes a dramatic exit from the stage. Anna Kendrick watches her go with some bemusement and then turns to the press.

“Sorry, folks, I guess that’s all for this press conference. Watch our fight though and we’ll see who is the fighter and who is just hot air. Hint: she’s with Diamond Boxing.”

The reporters laugh as Anna makes her exit. She can see Sarah Carter watching from the opposite end of the stage. She does not look happy. Anna smiles and gives her a wave. Sarah scowls and disappears into the wings.

When Sarah Carter and Anna Kendrick next meet it is across from each other in the ring. Sarah is in a blue bikini with matching gloves and boots (white laces). Sarah’s blonde hair in a top knot on her head. Anna in a red bikini, bandeau top and high-waist bottoms. Matching red gloves and boots. Anna’s hair in a braid down her back. Sarah tries to use her two inch height advantage to body up on Anna, but Anna just giving her a defiant smile as she stands there hands on hips, not moving. Referee intervenes to keep the antagonistic beauties apart until he can get through the instructions and send them to their corners. Crowd is nicely warmed up and eager to see what happens next as the bell rings…

R1: Sarah boldly charging into Anna aiming her opening shots at Anna’s body. Anna shows some good footwork at making herself an evasive target to frustrate Sarah. Then Anna puts a strong jab into motion and lights up Sarah’s face with quick stingers. Sarah pulls back and tries to circle, but Anna moving quicker and puts some solid leather into Sarah’s gut. Sarah doubled up and backpedaling as she tries to regroup, Anna keeping up the pressure and Sarah on the defensive the rest of the round. Anna takes the opening round wide.

R2: Anna and Sarah battling toe to toe as the round gets started. Anna again aggressive, but Sarah putting a lot more resistance this time. Most of the punches going to the body as they stand there, elbows pumping in the leather, but neither willing to back off as the exchange grows in intensity. Then Sarah suddenly sends a quick right uppercut into Anna’s chin and a swiping left to the jaw. Anna falling back from the head shots, trying to find her jab, but Sarah firing away at Anna’s unguarded chest and stomach. Anna able to finally to use her jab and knock Sarah back with some quick shots to the breasts and ribs. They go into another toe to toe battle that seems very even. Judges give it to Sarah Carter by a close margin.

R3: Sarah and Anna get into another close in fight as the round begins. They are circling each other, bobbing and weaving at times as they struggle for position. Sarah scores to Anna’s body enough to draw her guard down and Sarah pumps overhand rights and lefts into Anna’s face. Anne struck between the eyes, on the mouth and forehead. Anna pulling out of there and Sarah forced to give chase. Interesting battle as Anna tries to escape and Sarah tries to cut her off. Sarah managing to keep Anna under pressure to the bell and secures the round wide.

R4: Sarah picking up where she left off with alternating attacks to body and face. She is mixing these up enough to keep Anna uncertain and slow to respond. However, Anna seems to be able to figure out Sarah’s timing better and launch quick counters to break up her attacks. Sarah looking frustrated. Anna goes on the attack and whacks Sarah’s head with quick swiping rights and lefts. Sarah fights back with hooks to the belly and straight in shots to Anna’s bikini top. Anna’s attack falters and Sarah goes at her hard. Anna employs jab to slow down Sarah’s advance to the bell. Sarah win around, but Anna has made it close.

R5: Anna told by corner that she’s letting Sarah Carter control the fight. Time to take it back and take it back hard! Anna complies by moving swiftly off her stool at the bell and just blitzing into a surprised Sarah. Anna aiming at Sarah’s head and her smashing rights and lefts have Sarah’s head spinning one way and then other as she stumbles back against the turnbuckle of her own corner. Anna now pounding away at Sarah’s body as Sarah buries her face in her gloves. Sarah writhing under this storm of leather. Virginia Madsen, Sarah’s trainer is screaming: “CLINCH! CLINCH!” Sarah finally does clinch, but her desperation makes it more like a bear hug as they stagger around the ring until the referee can pry them apart. Fight resumes and Anna pounds away at the still reeling Sarah. Sarah driven back to the ropes, but she is able to huddle against the strands, face in gloves and survive by letting Anna firing away at her curled up body. Bell rings to end the ordeal, Sarah looking vacant-eyed with punch-shock, but somehow totters back to her corner. Anna slams her gloves together and clearly can’t wait for more.

R6: Foxfire corner crew work hard, but Sarah is still tottering as she comes out for this round. Anna not hesitating, She charges right in and starts punching at Sarah’s body. Sarah gets her guard up but it looks feeble. Anna swiftly goes after Sarah’s chin with powerful uppercuts that shake Sarah’s top knotted hair loose just as Anna brings a finishing uppercut up from around her ankles. It’s a beauty of an uppercut. Sarah’s head jerks back and she is lifted off her feet to come crashing down HARD. Sarah actually bounces off the canvas before coming to rest in a perfect starfish, arms and legs outflung, eyes tightly closed as she moves her head from side to side. The referee’s count is a formality. The fight is OVER!

After: Sarah carefully revived by medical staff and then assisted from the ring has nothing to say that night, Anna Kendrick, of course, has a something to say.
“I guess Sarah knows now that she couldn’t stop me! She tried and I ran right over her. I do hope she’ll be all right. If she just wasn’t such a blow-hard I could respect her for her boxing skills. It was a good fight, She did give me some problems, but I overcame them and starched her good! I feel back on track now and I can’t wait for my next fight! Title belt: Your True Champion is Coming For You!”

Next day, a somber Foxfire Boxing spokesperson Beth Harnois tells press: “This was a deep disappointment for Sarah. She’ll be all right after some rest and recuperation, but she doesn’t see any point in dwelling on the fight, Anna Kendrick won and Sarah lost. That is the bottom line for Sarah and now she’s going to put it behind her and move on.”

Another exciting Foxfire flyweight contest, but it did not end well for Sarah Carter. She seemed to be dominating Anna Kendrick, but the younger woman was able to come back and leave Sarah crushed on the canvas, Certainly a good comeback fight for Anna as she does seem to have put the loss of her title to Natalie Portman behind her. A setback for Sarah Carter, though losing to a flyweight champion is not a disgrace, but Sarah clearly had hopes of using the fight to move up in contender status. Now she and her Foxfire management will have to ponder her next move and it is not clear what that will be.
