TESS VALMORE
I had a very good PPV predictions wise, however I missed three of the four title matches. That continues a trend in that my recent title predictions have been terrible record wise. Lesson: Don’t be the farm on my title predictions
RHODA/FERGUSON A terrific title bout that ended in controversy. The bout was fairly even going into the eighth, but tending in Rhoda’s way. She was on the verge of winning when a Ferguson elbow caught her in the nose leading to a Ferguson victory. I personally think it was an intentional foul. reminiscent of Nolin in her prime, whose motto was “when losing, foul. Ferguson retained the title. Rhoda deserves a rematch in the not too distant future
LIMA/STRAHOVSKI This to me was the surprise of the night. Both scored knockdowns, but I had Strahovski ahead on the cards going into the eighth which ended in a Lima KO. Despite the outcome of this bout, I still think that Strahovski is the best fighter in the lightweight division at present. Lima’a win did not change that opinion. If Lima’s manager thinks differently, I will remind him that the greatest of all time, Theron, lost some eighty or so matches during her prime, all to fighters not as good as she
BELLISARIO/DANES Bellisario has been another surprise to me. I thought she would be a weak champion. Instead, she successfully defended her title for the third time against a very strong challenge. Danes is no weak sister, but couldn’t take the title away
PORTMAN/J. COLEMAN Portman came from behind to win this bout even though it only lasted five rounds. Portman is a classy fighter that just can’t be dismissed. She will go down as one the great flyweights of all time. Losing to her was no disgrace for Coleman. Chalk it up to a learning experience
KLOSS/RIGHETTI Kloss challenged for an easy win and ended up with Righetti instead. Kloss may have thought her upset win over Amanda in their first fight was an indicator of future success. Wrong. She got her head handed to her by the best welter going now (yeah that includes Upton and Ferguson)
HUDGENS/L. COLLINS. Destined to be one of the fights of the year possibly the flyweight bout of 2017. Thirteen brutal rounds that ended in a Collins TKO win with Hudgens’ chest exposed
STEWART/C. COLE Cheyl Cole continued on her merry way towards the top ten by beating Stewart. Everyone knows I have a problem with the schedule Stewart has fought, She has for the great part of her career avoided the big girls (that term here doesn’t apply to size but to being in the top twenty of the flyweights) The term applies to Cole
PANETTIERE/M. WILLIAMS Williams, a Hall Of Fame, member scored a KO win in what I believe was her 200th fight. All the more impressive was that her win came over Hayden, who has a very good chance of entering the Hall Of Fame later this year
BOCK/BALDWIN. Bock won the New Blood Final. It remains to be seen if she will have any impact among to top new welter talents that has flowed into the FCBA including Ferguson, Rhoda, Kloss. Ryan not to mention Upton. Bock could fit in well as the welters once again struggle. The inflow of new welters seems short of the replacing older fighters who are disappearing
AMBROSIO and SWIFT both won their bouts and took steps towards getting a title shot. Despite Swift’s exceptional winning run, I just don’t see her as a champion. PEREGRYM remains a constant title threat
ROHRBACH.KENDALL JENNER and REN both improved their standings and with a little more experience cold move into challenging position
LOPITATO AND J. ALEXANDER saw their title shot hopes severely set back by losses to T. Cole and Peregrym
SPEARS AND PRESSLY It was sad to see these two Hall Of Fame fighters get back into the ring. Pressly lasted less than three and Spears less than six. They had strong opponents, but we will have more to say about this later in the week
BLOODGOOD You are 42 dear, but you know that. You now have lost six of your last eight and your last win was over Prejean. You know that also. Doesn’t that give you a hint?
REFAELI won her body saddle fight and has now won three straight, but don’t expect to see her in the rankings.
Sometimes the FCBA viewer numbers can be mystifying. Normally, a Upton fight draws a lot of attention. An Upton JMDD fight is always money in the bank and is the top watched fight of any PPV. At the time of this writing this month’s Upton JMDD bout didn’t even crack the top five. She had a top JMDD opponent in McKinney, a former JMDD champion who had beaten Upton once before in a title fight. I have no idea why this fight didn’t lead in viewership figures. It will be interesting to see what the figures are in a two weeks from now
