BEFORE:
"I was wondering when I might get a chance to come to Philly," says Adelaide with a smile. "I mean, lots of my stablemates have been here. I guess it was just a matter of the right time, and, tonight is the right time."
"I think Adelaide has the wrong idea," says a hard-eyed Leighton. "This is the WRONG time to be in the ring with me...as she's about to find out."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'When A Fire Starts To Burn' by Disclosure, and here comes the Queen herself, star of 'Reign', the CW and Foxfire's own Adelaide Kane!"
McCarthy: "Now, here's where I normally say 'typical Dancing Hooker opponent, no FCBA wins'. Kane, however, has won three FCBA fights. However, she's also LOST fourteen, including ten in a row and she hasn't won in two and a half years SO...Typical. Dancing. Hooker. Opponent."
O'Dell: "Kane into the ring and helped off with the robe by the Foxfire corner crew. She's wearing a lovely white number and is clearly in great shape for this one. And, that's 'Somebody To Love' you hear behind us..."
Tess: "And, you'll note Mac is NOT singing along, because there is an actual LEGAL DOCUMENT preventing her from doing so!"
McCarthy: "There is, however, NO legal document preventing me from saying SHUT UP, WALMART!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, while I point out that the tune you hear is a cover version by the young lady making her way to ringside, 'The Marco Island Mauler', Leighton Meester!"
Cassie: "And, Meester referencing the fact that this might not be the best time to be in the ring with her, as she's coming off a tough loss to bantamweight Alicia Vikander that definitely set back her plans to make a run at the flyweight titles."
Tess: "And, there's no doubt she needs to get back on track tonight, because the Front Street flyweight division is more crowded than ever these days..."
O'Dell: "Meester into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that red and pink number we've seen before. Ladies about ready. Time for some picks. Tess favors Leighton. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Even Meester can beat this tomato can!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "It's unanimous. Let's see if the ladies are right. No surprise early as Adelaide makes with the legs. She's an athletic girl and has shown an ability to box and move, and that's going to be the plan here. Leighton, on the other hand, the bigger, stronger girl, and she wants to create set pieces here."
McCarthy: "Kane does have a nice, quick jab. I might have to rethink my prediction, because, any decent weapon is enough to beat one of Weirdo's Dancing Hookers..."
O'Dell: "MEESTER WOBBLES KANE! Right on cue, Leighton lands a stiff left jab and a nasty right hook off it and Adelaide is HURT! Kane taking a blizzard of punches now as she covers up mid-ring. Meester letting the hands go in a big way, looking to finish this thing about as early as you can finish..."
Tess: "Still want to change your pick, Mac?"
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, WALMART!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, as Adelaide is drinking in a ton of leather. Kane to the ropes, rolling with, leaning back, trying to pick off the worst of it. She's doing enough to stay alive, but that's about it. Ten seconds to go in the round. Aussie going to survive it. There's the bell, but it's Meester wide in the first."
Cassie: "And up 10-9."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Meester looking to follow up now. She cleaned up, and now she wants to finish or at least consolidate. Kane giving ground, countering in spots. Legs coming back for her, and that's important, especially for a fighter like Adelaide. Meester cuts the ring, steps to, bangs some body...AND GETS DROPPED!"
Cassie: "WHAT A RIGHT HOOK BY KANE!"
O'Dell: "Timed it perfectly. Meester dropped the head and Adelaide caught it coming down and sent Leighton to her right side. Adelaide to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Meester to hands and knees. Eight. Nine...Leighton to her feet. Barely beats it. Referee gives her the mandatory...and he's going to let it continue..."
McCarthy: "Might be a mistake. She's out on her feet."
O'Dell: "Kane right after the Front Streeter. Meester backed into both a literal and figurative corner and the brunette having at her with everything in the arsenal. Referee not going to watch much more of this. Leighton tying up. Adelaide shoving free. Meester tying up again, running clock. Kane a good uppercut. Again, Meester ties up. Referee going to break them. Adelaide firing away. Again, Leighton manages a clinch and there's the bell. Meester survives...but barely."
Tess: "And, the cards say 19-18, but it's clear who is in charge of this fight."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Kane picking up where she left off in the second. She's all OVER Meester, letting her have it with both hands. Leighton giving ground, covering up, jabbing back here and there, doing just enough to stay alive here. Kane hooking some body, lands a solid right to the head..."
McCarthy: "This can't go on much longer. Kane's going to find the 'off' switch or the ref's going to stop it and we may see the end of another career of Dancing Hooking!"
O'Dell: "Adelaide ANOTHER nice right. Leighton fires back with a good flurry. Not a ton behind it, as the legs are still iffy, but the best offense she's shown since the knockdown. Kane working her rival back toward the ropes. Meester able to stay off the cables but takes ANOTHER hard right hand..."
Cassie: "I don't like to say Mac is right, but, the ref can't watch much more of this."
O'Dell: "Kane stepping to and Meester ties up again. Hooking some Aussie body as they wrestle around inside. Adelaide punching free, lands a nice left hook. Meester a combination. Again, not a ton of power there, but it's something. Kane right back to work, backs Meester up with a BIG right and there's the bell. Adelaide wide again."
Tess: "And, she's up 29-27 after three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Kane continuing to press the issue. Meester giving ground, landing in the counter now. Leighton appears to have the legs back and she's getting to Adelaide with solid shot and SHE ROCKS HER WITH A RIGHT HAND! Kane is hurt just seconds into the fourth round and Meester letting the hands go!"
Cassie: "Come into my parlor!"
O'Dell: "And, things are getting mighty sticky for the lovely Adelaide Kane! Leighton just committing on everything right now, landing lusty with both hands. Kane in full retreat, backed to the ropes and getting absolutely abused right now. It was just a couple of minutes ago that she was in command of this thing..."
Tess: "That's the FCBA in general and Asylum in particular. Things can change quickly around here."
O'Dell: "Final minute and Adelaide taking a beating on the ropes. She's jabbing back in spots, trying to keep the ref at bay. Meester, meanwhile, wants to bring him into play if she can't send Kane to the canvas. Twenty seconds to go. GOOD right hand, Leighton, and that shook Kane. Adelaide covering up, hanging on. Ref watching, but there's the bell. Shutout, Meester."
McCarthy: "But, Kane still on top 38-37."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth starts in a complete 180 from the start of the fourth. Now it's Meester pressing and Kane retreating. Adelaide still wobbly and Leighton knows it. And, she's taking full advantage of it. She's squaring Kane up with both hands, landing a lot of power shot. Adelaide able to ship it and stay afloat at the moment..."
McCarthy: "But, not for much longer. She's getting touched up big time right now."
O'Dell: "Kane keeping the guard high, working to stay off the ropes. Meester putting punches together well. It's flurry after flurry as she looks to find the one that will...DOWN GOES KANE! That was a straight right hand from Leighton that landed right on the button and Kane is dropped to her hands and knees!"
Tess: "Dropped that right over Kane's glove. Really pretty punch..."
O'Dell: "That it was. Meester to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Kane trying to will herself to push to her feet, but she can't get it done. Seven. Eight. Adelaide trying to stand and dropping right back to her knees! TEN! And, it's over! Kane can't beat the count and it's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is 'The Marco Island Mauler', Leighton Meester!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Leighton Meester, and, Leighton, that was quite a fight..."
Leighton (nodding): "Look, she's an Aussie, Tess, and, if you know anything about Aussie fighters, they're all tough and none are easy outs. This girl may have lost some fights, but she has ability and she fights hard. And, she's plenty dangerous."
Tess: "But, you got off the deck and came up with a big win."
Leighton (nodding): "And, it is big. You know what my goal is. We've talked about it plenty of times. I want a shot at the flyweight gold. I'm getting closer. But, there's still work to do."
