Intro:
The first semi final of the New Blood lightweight tournament sees Londoner Hermione Corfield take on St.Louis native Taylor Momsen.
Both girls are debuting tonight with Hermione best known for roles in Mission Impossible, while Taylor is best known for being in Gossip Girl and now a singer of The Pretty Reckless band.
When the draw was made, both girls were confident as they stood face to face seeing what they were against.
Seeing each other again at the press conference after all the training for the fight, neither looking as confident as they looked over a leaner, more toned woman.
Led to their tables, Hermione was asked to speak first as she stood up and smiled warmly to the journalists present.
"Wow what a month, I haven't worked as hard in my life in a gym as I have since I got told I was in this tournament" she says as she raises her right arm up to flex it, showing good definition.
"I know I can become a champion in the FCBA, the road to that begins with Taylor and ends with me holding the lightweight title" finishes the Brit as she nods over to Taylor.
Who doesn't look impressed at being prompted to speak, instead standing up and looking a lot more serious, showing the difference in personalities.
"This is going to be fun for me, I grew up with people expecting me to play nice but I always wanted to just punch someone in the face, so getting paid to do it is a dream" says Taylor as a small smile appears.
Getting serious once again, she finishes by saying "I have been working my ass off to get to where I want to be, so if Hermione thinks I am going to bow down to her, then she doesn't know me" staring hard at her future opponent as the staredown begins.
Both girls brought up to stand face to face, coming together to glare at each other as the importance of getting their careers off to a good start is fuelling their anger.
The girls are led off the stage as they nod at each other, Hermione waving as she leaves, Taylor continues to look serious as she leaves the stage.
Fight night in the legendary Broadwalk Hall in Atlantic City; New Jersey, first out comes the special guest referee for these bouts Heather Graham in a tight black and white referee shirt and tight black workout shorts to go with her black shoes.
Climbing into the ring, the crowd are happy to see the beauty standing in the middle of the ring blowing kisses to her fans.
Now it's time for the fighters, out comes Hermione first with her coach behind her as she smiles and waves to the crowd.
She is wearing a red one piece swimsuit, red gloves and shoes, her long blonde hair is tied into a ponytail to complete her look.
Climbing into the ring, she does a lap around the inside of the ring before ending up at her corner as the fans give her a warm welcome.
Taylor now is at the top of the aisle with her coach in front of her, head down as she has a black towel over her head to cover her face.
She is wearing a black one piece swimsuit, matching gloves and shoes, after she enters the ring, her coach takes the towel off to reveal that she has thick black make up around her eyes and a dark shade of red lipstick to make her look slightly demonic.
Hermione gives Taylor a confused look, maybe the warpaint is having some effect as Heather waves the girls together in the center of the ring.
As Heather goes through the rules, the girls simply stare each other down, Hermione trying to show she isn't afraid of Taylor, but the cold look in Taylor's eyes are scary for some pundits at ringside.
Asked to touch gloves, the girls bump their gloves together before they jog back to their corners, Heather signalling for the bell to begin 10 rounds of lightweight action.
Round 1:
Both fighters are so alike for builds but pundits wonder if they fight similar, the answer is similar but not identical as they circle and jab early on.
Taylor though shows to be the more aggressive, coming forwards behind the jab, digging it through the guard of Hermione to her lips.
The Brit though moves backwards and as her American rival comes forwards, she lands bobs her head to make the singer miss and lands a counter right cross.
After her head got turned, Taylor takes a right to her abs and a left up top to put her on the back foot, for all her "warpaint" it doesn't seem to have had any effect on the psyche of Hermione as she is fighting straight up the centre.
A nice bit of footwork from Taylor gives get room to reset and come back at her fellow blonde, leading to both fighters trading on the inside.
Neither looks to have any advantage in power at this stage as they give as good as they are taking to the body, almost cheek to cheek as they bang away.
Corfield slips back a step to land a right hook, forcing Taylor tight behind her guard and giving her an opening to dig three quick thrown punches to the body of Momsen.
Hermione looking good this round as she bounces up on her toes and uses her jab to try to keep that guard stuck to the face of her opponent.
But Taylor parries a jab as she begins to time it and lands a left cross in the dying seconds of the round and a right cross at the bell.
Neither fighter wastes time with mind games, just heading back to their corners to get cleaned up off their coaches, though Hermione affords herself a quick smile, happy with how that round went for her.
Round 2:
Both fighters look to come out strong, Hermione connecting with a double jab, though misses with right and Taylor comes in close to plug the gap between the fighters.
Back and forth go the fighters in tight, Taylor just missing with an uppercut that skims the chin of the Brit and makes her retreat.
It's not long till both fighters come back in for more, Hermione landing a right and left across the face of Taylor to back her up a step, a right lands to her abs though to drive some air from her body.
A right to her chin pushes Hermione back, Taylor looking to power on, meets a staunch defence as her fellow blonde lands a straight punch.
Again both fighters go in tight to each other, digging away to each others bodies, grunts and thuds of leather are heard loudly from the ring.
Hermione tries to step back again but gets caught with a left cross from Taylor, who keeps throwing punches to keep her opponent on the defensive.
Taylor landing several punches around the guard of her opponent to dig into the flanks, keeping Hermione backing up.
Two straight punches catch Taylor on her face, Hermione able to create space to take a moment to breath.
Not long left in the round, both fighters landing a few jabs, Hermione trying to slip around to the right of Taylor, but a right hook catches her and she stumbles back a few steps.
Taylor pounding Hermione backwards as the actress covers up as best she can till the round ends and Momsen jogs back to her corner looking a little more happy with herself.
Hermione looks at her gloves and bangs them together, trying to stop thinking how bad the round ended and think of how she is going to win this on her way back to her corner.
Round 3:
Circling each other with single punches to start the round, both girls looking for a chance to open each others guard up.
Taylor sneaks a right through the guard of Hermione and adds a right to the body as she starts to drive her back.
Hermione trying her best to square up and fight back, but Taylor is keeping her on the back foot, knocking the head back of her fellow blonde.
Blood starting to flow from the nose of Hermione, who is wincing as she keeps getting hit with straight punches to her face.
As Hermione's back hits the ropes, she shoves her way off the ropes to pull Taylor into a clinch, both fighters cheek to cheek as they whisper to each other.
Their faces curled up in anger as Heather struggles to pull the girls apart, but after she gets them apart, both girls land with straight punches.
Taylor lands a right cross to get back quickly on the front foot with Hermione struggling to catch a break it seems this round.
Being pressed towards a corner, Hermione slips under a left jab to escape into space and as her opponent turns, she lands a hard right hook.
Taylors head turns and now she finds herself being hit cleanly, Hermione knocking her back onto her heels to turn the momentum around.
The end of the round sees Taylor covering up, Hermione and her staring each other down as both fighters know that the other has proven to be close to them, it's eating them up inside to think that.
Both fighters back in their corners, both marked up but it's Hermione who looks worse due to her nose, though she seems to be in as good a shape as Taylor.
Round 4:
Hermione looking to get out the gates quickly, Taylor looks a little stunned as she is under a barrage of punches, covering up as she is put onto her heels.
The British fighter keeping striking, wanting to end the fight now, forcing Taylor back to the ropes, slinging rights and lefts around the guard to the head.
Taylor having to fight back, the girls slugging it out but it's Hermione who is in control, the American can't use her full power off the ropes.
A right from Hermione turns Taylor's head and she's forced to cover up as she suffers more body shots, getting dominated by her opponent which worries her fans.
Managing to clinch up; Taylor looks relieved to have stopped being hit, while Hermione let's out a scream of frustration.
Heather having to get involved again, prying the fighters apart, Hermione tries to lunge in with a left but misses as Taylor retreats.
Trying to get her bearings back after being put under so much pressure, Hermione trying to hunt her down across the ring but is showing rookie mistakes by rushing instead of measuring up the punches.
Taylor lands a thudding jab and right to the ribs to at least score something this round as Hermione scowls after getting hit.
Both girls trade a range of punches with not long left in the round, Hermione blooding the lips of Taylor to make this round even worse for her.
The bell rings to end the round, Hermione not believing that she hasn't gotten Taylor out of there, her opponent looking at the crowd, almost urging them to give her a boost.
Both girls getting their faces cleaned up, blood on the bottom half of their faces, cheeks puffing up and they look annoyed with themselves as much as their opponent.
Round 5:
The fighters both start off quickly this time, Taylor clearly not wanting to be caught short, leading to more slugfest action.
The crowd standing and cheering both fighters on, both girls are hurting judging by their faces, but it's Hermione who is starting to back up her opponent.
But Taylor catches Hermione with an uppercut as she comes in, Corfield is stunned and Momsen knows it as she lashed straight punched into her face.
Hermione looks shocked as she gets her gloves up to protect herself.
Momsen changes her attack up, digging to the body of her opponent, who starts to fire back up top again.
Both fighters are getting desperate, the fight becoming scruffy as they go head to head, digging punches into bodies.
A right up top from Taylor separates the girls, then she lands a left hook to wobble Hermione badly for the first time in this fight.
Hermione ends up being knocked back around the ring as Taylor senses that weakness and powers forwards with short sharp punches to her rivals face.
Hermione is pressed to the ropes and Taylor looks like she's ready to smash the actress through the ropes to the mats outside.
The bell rings to end the round and stop that happening, but Hermione has to shove herself off the ropes after being beaten onto them.
While Taylor walks confidently back to her stool, feeling she's finally broken this almost copy of herself she feels, both figures glaring at each other as they get cleaned up.
Round 6:
Taylor comes out quickly, Hermione trying to fight on the defensive, the fight becoming a cat and mouse affair as Corfield tries to lure her in.
But as she looks for a moment to strike, she gets caught with a right hook that turns her head, then a left turns her legs to jelly.
An uppercut puts Hermione down to her back, she's groaning loudly but isn't moving much, just holding her head as her eyes are shut, Heather easily counts her out and the fight is over.
Winner: Taylor Momsen KO Round 6
After:
Taylor loses her serious look as she beams with a wide smile on her face and quickly heads to her corner to hug her coach.
Hermione on the other hand needs to be helped up by her coach, using him like a clutch to get to her stool, where she puts her head down and can be heard sobbing.
Her chance at the title is over and she'll have to watch Taylor in the spot she herself feels she should be in.
The crowd watches Taylor do a lap of honour in the ring, Heather watching closely as the winner starts to head near her beaten opponent's corner.
But she simply ignores her, just jogging past as Hermione is of no concern to her now, instead as she finishes her lap, it fully hits her that she's in the final on PPV in two weeks time.
She's going to speak to her coach about it when the interviewer for these events comes in to hear her thoughts on tonight.
Stopping from heading to her corner, she wishes she was allowed to clean the make up that smudged on her face off before she spoke.
"I'm so happy to have won, I'll give Hermione some credit, she gave me some punishment but when she had to start up to it, she wilted under my fists" says Taylor.
Before beating the interviewer to the punch by saying "before you ask, I don't care which one I fight, both look mean but I know they'll not beat me, why? Because this is the moment that we all want to get and I'm not throwing this away now my claws are firmly on it"
Giving the interviewer a quick pat on his shoulder and a nod to the camera to show she is finished, she heads to her corner to finally get that make up fully off her face.
Her coach suggesting that maybe looks all the extras for her next fight, with Taylor begrudgingly admitting he's right.
All the while this has went on, Hermione with help from her coach has snuck out the ring, just wanting to go home and forget this loss.
Taylor gets one last big cheer from the crowd as she gives them a bow and mouths thank you to them for their support.
Then she heads to the back, of course to scout out her next opponent and later she'll be able to face the winner for the final face off tonight.
