"THE DOLL BALL" PPV
Jessica Chastain (40, 5’4, 124 lbs, 1:0 FCBA, The Dollhouse) Vs. Elodie Frege (35, 5’7, 124 lbs, 8:33 FCBA, Latin Union)
Results: Lookout!; Story: Caspian & The Dollhouse
BEFORE: Redheads at the conference table making for slightly confusing sight, but there’s no doubt who the Dollhouse star is, crossing her legs and looking classy in a blue dress pre-fight pose.
"I'm here tonight at my stable's first ever PPV… This is first and foremost a celebration, but I guess I also have to win, right?” Jessica Chastain smiles as she throws out a rhetorical question for the audience before answering it herself: “I gained a lot of confidence after my debut win, I can definitely say that - but this will be yet another challenge for me, for sure.”
“Darn right it’s gonna be,” Elodie Frege scoffing at her comments for stating the obvious, in her thick French accent. “Who let Grandma into the ring, am I right?” she tries to mock Jessica’s age, inviting the audience to laugh along, but they don’t bite.
Instead, Chastain calmly turns to her at the end of the table, eyeing her diligently but continues on without venom. “Elodie is taller, longer and younger than me, no doubt. She's also much more experienced. I guess I'm going to have to beat the odds here tonight. But….I can say I trained a lot for this fight, my trainers do a wonderful job, and I think I'm definitely ready. My training team believes I'm stronger than her, and I'll be doing my best to use that to my advantage. What more can I say? May the best woman win! Let's get this party started!"
Elodie letting out another frustrated pffftt, as though not believing for one second Jessica’s genuine, respectful nature. Still, when both ladies finally meet in the ring, there’s a touch of gloves when the ref calls for it, albeit more of a testy and strong PUH as Elodie uses a little more force than what’s necessary. Regardless, here we go with ten rounds of Bantamweight action!
ROUND 1: The only people shocked by the opening of this fight are the members of the audience, who are clearly stunned when the 40 year old actress strides forward confidently and DECKS Elodie Frege across the face with a right hook out of no man’s land. Least of all expecting that was Elodie herself, who was clearly underestimating her competition and revising her definition of ‘old’. Now she’s regretting that thought as this ‘old’ lady walks her down about the ring, punishing the guard with heavy hands that shove her back. Elodie no spring chicken herself, definitely, but late in the round she surprises Jessica with a few jabs to the face as well as body as she fights to stay alive in the first round. It’s a good opening for either of these two ladies, arguably doing more to dispel stereotypes in the audience rather than doing damage to each other.
ROUND 2: Alas, this IS a boxing contest after all, and one lady has to walk away victorious. Jessica going at it again early on, harassing with more big blows intending to not give Frege any breathing space to retaliate. Elodie however has other ideas, using her opponent’s momentum to pick the opportune moment to strike: just as Chastain misses with another wide hook up high, the Frenchwoman steps in and digs a punch low to her body and side, slowly but surely wearing her down and forcing Chastain to regroup and reevaluate her strategy. Elodie regaining her confidence when Jessica chooses to do exactly that - she resolves to stride forward after her, mistaking the backtracking of heels for weakness. Chastain surprises her however, towards the end with sudden jab punting the nose and head back, and both ladies are left brawling in each other’s faces near the ropes when neither wants to retreat. Referee rings the bell soon after, prying both cougars apart with much difficulty and sending them back to cages.
ROUND 3: Both are big girls, not just in terms of age but also strength, and they somehow decide to mutually go at it at the same time in the third. Power cross first thrown by Jessica as she comes step thrown in from afar. Elodie panicking, barely deflecting the blow as it lands hard on her forearms. Jessica heartened, pulls back for another, intending for it to be killer blow, when Elodie stuffs a quick jab straight up into her mouth, putting at end to that thought. Chastain grimacing as she tries to wind back again, AGAIN denied with more punches to the face. Elodie just younger, faster - of course, not by much - but it’s enough to disrupt Chastain’s momentum back there. Only way forward is forward, Jessica tells herself, and she decides abruptly to wade in and swinging. Elodie standing her ground however, DUCKS under a wild hook from the redhead, then CHOPS at the chin with snap uppercut, then another and another, knocking the Doll’s head back, before going for a killer move herself with a left hook, that’s blocked by Chastain’s shaking arm, upon reflex just springing upwards to save her from abject humiliation. Girls reset at opposing ends, looking solemn. But especially for Chastain, who looks more hesitant now about throwing all cards in at once. Time runs out and she lets Elodie take ANOTHER round for herself by wide margin. At this rate, this might very well be the first Dollhouse defeat of the evening, and what would that say about Jessica’s place in the organisation? The redhead shakes her head in disbelief as she heads back to her corner, not willing to entertain that train of thought for one second.
ROUND 4: Elodie tauntingly gesturing with both her hands for Jessica to bring the fight to her. Confident much? The Frenchwoman gets exactly what she wishes for as Chastain circles in from afar, first throwing jabs and then powering an odd straight into her guard to test its resolve. She’s also very mindful that Elodie drawing her own right for another trap like last time, but this time, Jess is well-prepared, sees the counter-hook coming a mile away. She weaves her torso backwards and the punch sails just inches from her nose. Instead, Chastain waiting and willing, JAMS her right hand up into Elodie’s face and forces her to eat some leather as payback. Elodie lets out a grunt and yelp as Jessica keeps onto her now, following her back to the ropes with more right hands into the face, completely wrecking pesky guard into pieces and knocking the French girl down a peg or two. Elodie in trouble, knows it, manages to avoid another big swing by the Interstellar actress by rushing forward to wrap both arms around chest. Trickle of blood flowing down one of Elodie’s nostrils as it drip drip drips down Chastain’s shoulder and back, blending quite well with her red-fire hair. Referee rings the bell to stop the round and before none too soon for Frege, whose corner is eager to patch their girl up.
ROUND 5: Always not a terribly good sign when one girl’s cut and injured. Doctors however clearing Elodie to resume fighting, to which she certainly wished for as well. Still, more measured play as Elodie hangs back, her mind still on her swelling body parts, and Jessica initially hesitant as well - that good-natured part of her unwilling to hurt her opponent even if this is still a boxing match and not a Mad Max Kill Dome. Only when The Dollhouse corner’s Carmen Electra starts yelling from the apron for Chastain to “Stop mucking about and CHARGE!” does Jessica oblige. Elodie’s wits are not about her at this stage - perhaps the pain wracking parts of her body already distracting her from the assault to come. As a result, Jessica easily scoring combos of punches to the nose and cheek, then when Elodie STILL doesn’t respond besides a half-hearted paw in her direction and swaying upper torso struggling to remain upright, Chastain steps in and UNLOADS a textbook uppercut that snaps her head back, lifting her feet clean off the ground a couple of inches. DOWN Frege goes as she hits the canvas with a loud THUD.
Referee counting her out slowly, but the 35-year old isn’t stirring, the only sign of life being the slow and steady rise and fall of her chest, now covered with flecks of blood as her nostril wound is reopened. The referee waves it off!
Official Decision: Jessica Chastain defeats Elodie Frege via KO5!
AFTER: A HUGE win for Jessica and she immediately proves to be different than some of her counterparts: more modest in celebration with a mere smile of relief and a wave to her fans in the rafters. Secretly though, she’s thinking to herself ‘HA! Write me off, will ya?’ to the naysayers watching at home. Tonight, she’s taken another step towards proving she can handle herself in the ring even at the age of 40 , with many more steps to come. After acknowledging her cheering fans at all four corners, she turns her attention back to Elodie, who by this time has regained consciousness and is being attended to by medics in the corner, trying their best to stem the bleeding in the nose. Look of genuine concern on Chastain’s face as she steps up and asks how Frege’s doing. The French woman now gracious as well in defeat, congratulates her for her win and mentions hope that they can have a rematch sometime in the future, to which Chastain lights up and responds (not giving up the opportunity to throw a little verbal jab at the French) - ‘Sure! Why not? Grandma would love to beat you again any time!’ |
