BEFORE:
"I remember fighting Anna about five years ago," says Alana with just the hint of a smile. "Didn't go well that night. But, tonight is another night."
"She's the kind of girl you always have to worry about," says Anna with a nod. "A smart veteran who knows exactly what she's doing in there. Make a mistake, and she'll make you pay. So. No mistakes tonight."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'The Hebrides Overture' by Mendelssohn, and, as we well know, that's the theme music for the lovely lady now coming to ringside, Alana de la Garza of the Bazz Fight Club and CBS' 'Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders'..."
Cassie: "Alana D! Alana D! Alana D!"
O'Dell: "Crowd giving de la Garza her normal warm reception and it only gets warmer as she climbs into the ring to be helped off with the robe revealing that orange bikini...and, there are very, very few women approaching their 41st birthday who have bodies like THAT..."
McCarthy: "But, there are a few who've had even MORE birthdays who look even HOTTER..."
Tess: "You know, I'm wondering if there's any subject we could bring up that Mac couldn't bring back around to how hot SHE is..."
McCarthy: "Probably NOT, because my hotness is so overwhelming. Oh, and SHUT UP, WALMART!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, as you listen to 'The Pain and the Passion' by Midnight Oil, and that means 'The Aussie Enforcer', Anna Torv is on her way to the ring..."
McCarthy: "FINALLY! A REAL fighter!"
O'Dell: "Torv, as usual, tapping glove to fist with Mac on her way by. Blonde climbs into the ring and is helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's wearing that black bikini we've seen before. And, the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Anna. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Again, REAL fighter. TORV!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "Alana D's going to surprise BOTH of you!"
O'Dell: "And, there's the bell. No surprise that we're going to start out boxing, because both of these ladies are plenty good at it. Both are tall and rangy. Both have excellent jabs they can use to set up other punches and put combinations together, and that's where we're going early."
McCarthy: "Torv is one of the best boxers in the FCBA, no question about that."
O'Dell: "Some recon going on here, too, as neither fighter is showing a ton of aggression. Both are moving, jabbing, throwing in combination here and there, but this looks to be mainly about getting the lay of the land. Doesn't mean it isn't plenty entertaining, though, because it is."
Tess: "No doubt about it. If you're a fan of boxing, it's a lot of fun to see these two go at it."
O'Dell: "Lot of technical expertise on display right now. Watch how both fighters angle and move the head and feet. Very subtle movements going on to change distance and geometry, to create openings or close them. Good, two-way stuff right to the bell. Close first. Torv."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins with more ranged boxing. Both blonde and brunette working the jabs, putting punches together. A bit more aggression in this round, with the feeling out portion of our program apparently over, but, we're still seeing good, two-way boxing, and, again, no surprise..."
Cassie: "And, Mac said last round that Torv is one of the best boxers in the FCBA. Well, Alana's boxing right with her, and that tells you how good Ms. de la Garza is."
O'Dell: "A minute and a half in and there's not much in it. Both fighters showing plenty of skill on both offense and defense. Torv dipping for a little body now, and Alana responds in kind. Most of the work continues to be upstairs, however, as the fighters score with both hands."
Tess: "Really nice combinations being put together right now, but, as you pointed out, Jenny, lots of defensive skill, so a lot of good leather is either being blocked or slipped."
O'Dell: "No question about that. Forty seconds to go. Torv a good right hand in that flurry and Alana answers with a solid three-punch combination of her own. Not much distance between the two fighters as we head for the finish. Sharp exchange there and another and there's the bell. Close. Alana this time."
McCarthy: "Even at 19 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "More of the same to start the third. Both fighters clearly comfortable on these terms, and, since neither's really forced the other to try something else, well. Nobody's trying anything else. Brunette snapping that long left out, dropping a solid right behind it. Torv a good flurry that forces de la Garza to cover up..."
McCarthy: "That was some of that welter power Torv has. It's one of the things that sets her apart at lightweight."
O'Dell: "Alana not hurt, though. Right back to the offensive with a good one-two and NOW SHE'S HURT! Torv with a BOOMING right hand in response and de la Garza staggered! Anna forward, backing the brunette up with salvo after salvo of heavy shell. Brunette quickly backed to the ropes..."
Cassie: "She's OK. She's OK. Alana knows how to handle this."
O'Dell: "Torv working the brunette over. de la Garza leaning back in the ropes in the high guard, rolling with, hanging on. Anna splits the gloves with a right hand, and that hurt the brunette! Alana in deep trouble here as the referee looks on, but she's still on her feet, jabbing back, keeping him at bay. Five seconds left. One more good right from Torv and there's the bell. Anna wide."
Tess: "And, Torv is now up 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Torv after Alana early, looking to consolidate, but de la Garza firing back strongly, stopping the Aussie offensive in its tracks. Brunette solidifying her front very quickly in the fourth. Anna not going to press the issue, back to the jab and boxing with and we're right back on the terms we've seen most of the fight."
Tess: "Anna pointed out how dangerous Alana is if you make a mistake. And, she's clearly not going to be taking chances here."
O'Dell: "Instead, she's working to get into rhythm, to put punches together. She's getting that done, but so is the brunette, who's responding with crisp, accurate flurries of her own. Alana landing a good right hand in that exchange and TORV LANDS A BETTER ONE AND DOWN GOES DE LA GARZA!"
McCarthy: "Welter power, baby! Welter power!"
Cassie: "Get up, D! You're still in this! Get UP!"
O'Dell: "Alana dropped to her right side by the Aussie right hand. Torv to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Alana rolling to her belly. Six. Seven. Brunette to hands and knees. Count at eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! de la Garza can't get off all fours, and it's over! And your winner by KO4 is 'The Aussie Enforcer', Anna Torv!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Anna Torv, and, Anna, really a bunch of great boxing on both sides tonight..."
Anna: "Well, thank you, Tess. If you're going to box her, you'd better be right on point, because she's very, very good. It wasn't easy to keep up, but, I managed it."
Tess: "And, your power was the difference..."
Anna (nodding): "Well, I can hit as well as just about anyone in the division. Caught her a couple of good ones and she wouldn't go. She's plenty tough. But, I finally managed to get her out of there."
