As usual I will comment on what I consider the most important bouts on the PPV. I realize that every bout is important to someone, but some fights have more immediate consequences than others
UPTON/FERGUSON I normally do not watch JMDD bouts, but this one happened to also be for the welter title. Some action in the late rounds went beyond the limits of decency,. There was controversy in the ninth. Did the referee cost Ferguson the bout by refusing to stop the fight, thereby letting Upton recover between rounds? Upton finally KOed Ferguson in the tenth with the help of a vicious foul. I did not stay around for the humiliation, but I understand that some semi-perverts enjoyed it
LIMA/BIEL Lima continues to surprise me. This was her fourth straight win of the year, three of them coming over top ten fighters. Biel was not top ten and actually has a losing record going back to 2013. She was, however, a dangerous opponent and a legitimate defense. Lima was impressive
BELLISARIO/VANCAMP Bellisario was another who surprised me. I didn’t think her championship would last more than one fight. This was her third defense. I predicted she would lose based on the fact that If I predicted she would lose long enough, I would eventually be right. This was the time. While VanCamp took the title, it was a good showing as a champ for Bellisario
PORTMAN/HALE Portman defended her tenth title against Hale who was definitely a fighter capable of taking the title away. It was a fine bout with Portman retaining the title. Portman is threatening her stablemate Williams as being the greatest flyweight
STRAHOVSKI/WINSTEAD. This is unquestionably the best rivalry since Theron’s long running rivalries against a number of opponents. The score was five each going into the bout and Strahovski had never had the lead in the count. She still doesn’t, as Winstead won and took the lead. Winstead should now be considered for a title shot
FREEMAN/PREJEAN This match was a joke but I was glad to see Freeman finally get back in action. I believe we will see her in the top ten welters before too long. Jamie Lynn is not doing very well as a manager. She needs to talk to her sister
KLOSS/THERON This was hard to watch and absolute disgrace for being scheduled. Theron had no chance and her manager knew it, but Miss Ginny accomplished her mission gloriously. I have talked with management and we will no longer cover any Theron event except her retirement. We will have no further involvement in this farce. Managers should refuse to book fights against Theron as a win over her no longer means anything
SPEARS/FISHEL The final fight of Spears’ career. Nothing against Fishel, but I was happy to see Britney go out a winner. She dominated the final half of the fight on the was to a tenth round KO
MUNN/M. KELLY Another fight with title implications. Kelly won by a seventh round KO and now has won something like 12 of her last 13. Will the new champ, VanCamp, give her a title shot? She undoubtedly remembers Kelly TKOing her earlier this year. Will she go for revenge or play it safe and pick someone other than Minka?
SCERBO/HUDGENS Scerbo lost her third straight to Hudgens although the bout ended in controversy about the referee stopping the fight too quickly. Is Hudgens the better fighter? I remember the previous commissioner saying that sometimes it’s style that wins fights against better opponents
KERR, AMBROSIO, LAWRENCE, and LOPILATO won their bouts moving toward the top ten. One or two of them may make it in the next rankings
BAZZ had two fighters on the card, BLOODGOOD and SONG. In my analysis of the stable, I said that both should go, They both lost
PANETTIERE won and is now six fights away from the Hall Of Fame as long as she doesn’t lose all six
Four fighters over 40 fought on the card. Three lost with one bout being between over 40 fighters
