(Words: Archer / Results: Lookout!)

Before: “I am really excited about fighting Rachel,” young Brie Larson tells the press at the pre-fight. “I know she’s been Bantamweight Champion 4 times and I’ve had is 4 career fights. I know Emily VanCamp knocked me out last month, but I think I learned a lot from that fight. I am confident I can give a good account of myself in this fight.”

“It’s always nice to be talked to with respect by a younger fighter—especially one who is bigger than me,” jokes the veteran Rachel. “Seriously, I am determined to take one last run at the Bantamweight Title. To do that I have to prove I can beat the younger bantams. Brie’s already beaten my stablemate Laura Vandervoort last summer, but that was on the beach. I think I can handle her in a ring just like VanCamp did. Yes, I do think I can teach her some things. I just hope she doesn’t resent the way I will be instructing her.”

Brie smiles: “I would never resent someone who fights by the rules and beats me.”

“Then you have nothing to worry about—except losing,” Rachel says.

On the night of the fight Brie is wearing a royal blue sports bra and matching short royal blue trunks. White boots and gloves with blue laces. Hair a in a single braid down her back. Rachel in a red sports bra and short black trunks with a red stripe up the sides. Black boots and gloves with red laces. Rachel is loose auburn hair, but wetted down. Polite ring instructions and fighters soon back in their corners. The bell rings…

R1: Brie using that three-inch height advantage to strike at the smaller Rachel from a distance. Rachel trying to work her way in, but Brie is making her pay with quick strikes to the head and face. Rachel shifts to circling and then reversing it. She gets Brie off balance and then comes in fast with a barrage of punches to the body. Brie looks flustered and backs away. Rachel following, but then runs into those wicked distance shots that bang her head from side to side. Rachel hunching up and storming in. Brisk exchange in close. Brie seems to get used to this an jerks hard right hooks into Rachel’s stomach and ribs. Rachel giving ground and going on the defensive with the jab as the round ends. Brie wins a close, hard-fought round.

R2: Rachel quick out of corner and onto Brie before the taller girl can land those distance shots . Rachel storming right up the middle with pounding punches to the belly, ribs and even some sharp hooks into the cups of Brie’s sports bra. Brie not liking this chest banging, tries to circle on Rachel, but the veteran blocks her and keeps the pressure on. Brie trying to jab Rachel back, but wily veteran is moving her head and is not an easy target. Late in round, Rachel gets some good dingers into Brie’s chin and sends the taller bantam lurching backwards on rubbery legs. Brie manages to keep her footing but Rachel hounding her to the bell. Rachel McAdams comes back to win this round wide.

R3: Rachel again charges forward, but this time Brie makes her fight her way through a barrage of her best long-distance shots. Rachel banged up to the face, but presses on and shakes Brie with deep, grinding hooks to the belly. Brie doubled forward, now gets her head banged from side to side by Rachel’s left and rights. Rachel trying to push the bigger girl back and enjoys some success, but then Brie digs in and fights back in close. Punishing exchange especially to the bodies. Rachel alert for opportunities, twice is able to slip uppercuts into Brie’s chin behind her gloves and Brie falls back slowly as time runs out. Another close, hard-fought round, with those late chin chuckers likely giving Rachel the round by a close margin.

R4: Brie’s quicker off the corner this round and she makes it pay off as she clouts Rachel with a strong right to the jaw. Brie dances around Rachel and strikes at her head again and again. Rachel obliged to duck down and Brie now comes in with a strong attack to Rachel’s body. Brie then pulls back leaving Rachel looking dazed. She circles and strikes again. Rachel kept on the defensive and getting worked over at a distance. Every time Rachel tries to start in on Brie, Brie strikes first and sends Rachel falling back with fresh hurt to body and head. Brie looking very good this round and wins it wide.

R5: Rachel and Brie speed towards each other. Rachel manages to duck under Brie’s long range punches to strike her in close. However Brie looking more willing and able to fight in close and they stand toe to toe driving punches into each other. Rachel trying for some head shot and does manage to swivel Brie’s head with a surprise left over Brie’s gloves, but Brie counter strongly with a right to Rachel’s jaw that puts the swivel in the veteran’s head. The two look groggy as they go back to the body punching just lifting hard, heartless rights and lefts into sweaty bodies all the way to the bell. Both are breathing hard and take a minute to recover before turning away to their corners. Judges call this a DRAW and few would disagree.

R6: They go right back at it as th new round gets started. Rachel and Brie getting in close and hammering at each other hoping one or the other will give way. Then Rachel drops down and comes shooting up unexpectedly and rams a right uppie into Brie’s chin. DOWN GOES BRIE LARSON. Blonde struck flush stumbles back and lands hard on her butt. Brie sits there blinking in confusion as Rachel heads for neutral corner. Referee moves in and starts counting. Brie taking some deep breaths and then slowly rises. She beats the count at “NINE!” Brie trying to shake it off as Rachel is waved back in. Rachel looks eager to finish the job, but Brie starts moving away, keeping her distance. Rachel starts chasing Brie and lunging at her. Brie patient and then strikes as Rachel is lunging at her yet again. Brie throws everything she’s got into a right and Rachel walks into it. KA-POW! Right crunches into Rachel McAdams’ jaw and the veteran is lifted off her feet and HURLED TO THE CANVAS. Rachel lands on her side and then rolls onto her back, her arms at her sides, her eyelids fluttering. Brie gets to the neutral corner and watches as referee is counting. Rachel is moving her arms and legs, but she can’t seem to do more. The count reaches “TEN!...YER OUT!”

IT’S OVER! BRIE LARSON DEFEATS RACHEL MCADAMS KO6!

After: Brie smiles happily as she waves to the cheering crowd. Great comeback, rising from the canvas after a knockdown and a minute later putting Rachel McAdams down for the count. Brie hurries over to check on Rachel who is being tended by Foxfire’s corner crew. Rachel gives Brie a hug and a word of congratulations before she is escorted from the ring. Brie goes back to her corner to where stablemate Anna Kendrick greets her with a even bigger hug.

Great win for the newcomer. Probably Brie Larson’s biggest win to date. Sure she was bigger and younger than Rachel McAdams, but when McAdams oput her down, Brie got back up and nailed Rachel to win the fight. Should definitely boost Brie’s contender status. As for Rachel McAdams, she fought hard, but Brie seemed too much for her tonight. Hopefully her next opponent won’t have quite as many advantages in youth and size as Brie Larson.
